Just popping in while I can...this cap and the entire nuance of her teasing expressions made MP look even more beautiful. It's a mystery how she does it! When Gulaal is fun, you just want to be fun with her...the entire mood lightens up but when she's sombre, that same energy spreads throughout the show. She's like the weather but equally beautiful in all seasons.
^^ How beautifully said is that! 👏 Yes, while our mood swung in accord with Kesar too - really, Gulaal, true to being the face of the show - a mutual namesake so to say - really did control the overall atmosphere! Even in a poignant scene like their photo session, the little moments of Gulaal's smiles for Kesar's lens could make you smile so truly, even as the mist in Kesar's eyes was evident! The true somber nuance only hit you, when she realized how somber the air was! When she realized bluntly, what lay beneath Kesar's fooling around - was when the air was all grave!
Like you say, she's the weather of this show, and true in that sense to what the show had promised to depict - the various colors in the life of a girl called Gulaal...
The lone scenes between the two really set the tone of the pain inside them. It was interesting how the writer's emphasised more on Kesar's anguish (with letters especially) while they always kept Gulaal's feelings closed up because that bodes well with their characteristics. You still felt Gulaal's pain but it was more beneath the surfaces (like Nur said, she was never really honest with herself even when she was trying to be) but Kesar always wore his heart on his sleeve so he was able to draw those hidden desires out. Such contrasting personalities they had! Even in the confession scene, Kesar had to draw it out of her because Gulaal was having difficulty in accept it.
And again @ bold - how true! I must have said this countless times especially since the moment she comes back to the haveli per force of the Panchayat, that I wanted a greater glimpse inside Gulaal's head! All those times we got mad at her for being so callous with Kesar, or such an ostrich to the reality outside her bubble - we talked about how Kesar even in his unfair phase had been easier to empathize with, cause we were shown that side of him, just him, his solitude and his dilemma verbalized. You're right - frustrating as it could get at moments, making you want to shake up Gulaal and get to peak inside that convoluted head of hers - the idea of not giving her 'introspection', or even bringing up her diary writing habit again, through this yet harder phase of her life, was to depict this trait where she lacked being honest with herself. All the time that she did write the diary, was reflection of her person when she was honest to herself. Every word she poured out to Vasant, was really like talking to herself, about the littlest of matters. And then, with Kesar's return, it changed. She ceased to be honest, even within herself, cause like I said yesterday, that would involve owing up, even if to herself, the desires and doings of her heart, which she forbade herself for painfully long! It wasn't until the very final episode, when she sat before that mandir and told God that she had 'realized' what Kesar was in her life - that we got a Gulaal 'spoken/written out' introspection scene - because right upto that point, Gulaal had been a woman who would refuse to own up even to herself, the honest wish of her heart, and by then, even her mind! When you look at it like that, not getting Gulaal's explanatory thought process in this tedious phase - and only have to second guess or imagine what was going on in her head by the scenes we saw through her eyes was strictly a part of adhering to her character trait. Even after the Dushyant showdown, when she sat still in the bedroom, until Kesar walked in, she only had FB's, and we had to put together 2 and 2. She told Kesar, only facts. There was no introspection there. Later, when she gave Kesar the 'entire' truth in Talli's house, again, just facts. No introspection. On the final night before DV break, and the night after DV breaking, the night after mandir flowers scene, the night of Kulli's pheras and her realization - only FB's, and face expressions - no words thought or spoken! Gulaal was truly shown as a character who could never deal with being honest to herself in this phase of GK evolution. Which sets her so credibly and beautifully apart from the hoard of other female protagonists who 'feel and secretly acknowledge' equal strains of love but still play tough to get - with chaste intentions, or coy! Gulaal - as we once months ago discussed - wasn't playing hard to get at all! She really did live that entire period out without crossing that line of at least 'self-acknowledging' her heart. And when you look at her character - its so believable, coming from her! Justifies, even a Vasant sequence in the final episode - whatever my mild grudge against it 😆
Eeeks can't wait for next scene <3 Sorry I couldn't be here more but I really miss it *sniff**
^^ Say you're around to do it? I have a crazy busy evening today, with 2 group meets back to back...
