Star Plus’ long-running drama Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has reached a major milestone with the completion of 5,000 episodes, strengthening its position as Asia’s longest-running television series. As the show celebrates this achievement, Samriddhi Shukla—who plays the current lead, Abhira—opened up about her experience and the deep bond she shares with the show.
“My name is etched in history” — Samriddhi on the milestone
Reflecting on the accomplishment, Samriddhi shared how honoured she feels to be part of a show that has remained a major presence on Indian television for nearly 17 years. She expressed, “It feels like my name is etched in history. To be associated with a show completing 5,000 episodes — a show that has run for 17 years and will continue to go strong. It is an achievement in itself, and I always say my name will also go down in history and people will see, ‘Oh, she was the lead of the fourth generation.’”
For her, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is not just a professional commitment but a journey that has become closely tied to her personal growth.
“Abhira has become very personal” — Living the character every day
Samriddhi further spoke about the connection she has developed with her character over time. “YRKKH has become home for me. For nearly two years now, I’ve lived this journey with about 700–800 episodes to my name. Abhira is a character I carry with me every single day; it has become very personal. Every win for YRKKH feels like a win for me.”
Her experience reflects how the show’s long-running nature allows actors to live with their characters for an extended period, creating a deeper emotional association.

She also thanked the viewers for their continued support and for keeping the show relevant even after so many years. “It’s been a huge journey — completing two years and around 800 episodes. Being part of a show that continues to be loved, has evolved, stood strong over time, and still ranks among the top three shows feels incredible. This is Asia’s longest-running drama, and being a part of it is nothing short of a blessing.”
