Director Milap Zaveri has recently had quite a mixed bag of two months, one would assume. On the one hand, Milap would have and did love the immense surprise success of Ek Deewaniyat Ki Deewaniyat while on the other hand, there was a huge amount of expectations and anticipation riding high on Mastiii 4 which marked the return of the much loved trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani in lead roles and thus being the fourth installment in the franchise.
If not anything else, they had expected at least the franchise loyalists to come and watch the film but as known, Mastiii 4 flopped hard at the box office and was instantly rejected.
Interestingly, this situation almost seems a bit similar to earlier where the first installment, Satyamev Jayate raked in big money at the box office and was almost like a surprise success too despite the presence of a mega star like John Abraham. However, it was then followed by the sequel to the film, Satyamev Jayate 2 which was outright rejected by the audience and flopped.
In an exclusive conversation with India Forums, Milap would want to reminisce those days when Satyamev Jayate 2 had just failed at the box office and he went on to revisit it and was gracious enough to make some admissions as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O60eBFZBOzE&t=2267sMilap Zaveri said, "There are times when I also became arrogant. During Satyamev Jayate 2, I was surely arrogant about it and I thought I knew everything in what the audience wants. But I was proven wrong by the same audience. So, the failure of Satyamev Jayate 2 taught me a few things, and one of those key things were that I cannot always be right about things. I am not God and I don't know my audience perfectly. My audience can turn around indeed and tell me that you're wrong and they have the right to come back to me and tell me that we have not liked what you have given us this time as a product of a film. So you have to learn and adapt while understanding that clearly and then move on to the next one."
As one would remember, Satyamev Jayate 2 barely earned Rs 17.29 crores at the box office while having an almost 100 crore budget.
Milap Zaveri looked back at the days following the failure of Satyamev Jayate 2 and spoke with rare honesty in an exclusive chat with India Forums. He admitted that he had become arrogant during the making of the film and felt he knew exactly what the audience wanted. He explained how the failure humbled him and why it reshaped the way he now approaches his work.
