Thank you. It's actually surprising. For such a good looking person, there are few really good pictures of Abhinav available on the internet - and Karishma Randhawa too, for that matter.

You know, I've always liked Abhinav Shukla. He has that charm in him. And the picture you put in there is a proof of that charm, the debonairness so visible.

So we have a new member in the world of Gehraiyan. Dev Khurana, the ever-flirtatious man who puts up that facade of the confident young man, yet we find a frown on his face behind that mask. I wonder who that woman was that he was dreaming about. I'm not guessing either of the two women introduced in the story yet. I'll wait for the revelation to come by.

Thanks for updating Z! 😊

Only for Him...

The machine purred quietly beside her, its blades turning with ease as she waited patiently for her clothes.

Kaka had been calm - surprisingly so -, muttering something about a jiddi pagol before telling her that there wasn't a person in the world who could keep her from doing as she pleased but that she should remember that the consequences would fall on her shoulders alone.

She had watched on as he led Maan to his room, disappointed that he had not been harsher. She suspected that he had meant for this to be her punishment... this feeling of being unwanted, of sorts... the bitterness at her own actions...

She knew that she wouldn't have to tell him for him to know that he had succeeded.

But how could she have stopped herself? Just look at what it had led to...

She had been overwhelmed when the figure had turned and taken the form of her husband. It had been hard to know what to focus on - his gaunt face and unruly hair or the disappointment she had felt at his being here.

A simple, honest request was all she had made - to be left alone for a little while. And yes, being pursued nonetheless came with its own satisfaction. She would be lying if she claimed to have not felt even a trace of pleasure at his being there. But ultimately, she had wanted him to respect her decision. She really did want what she had asked for. A little while to herself, a few days of being nameless...

So when he had faltered nervously and told her that he was not here for her...

Well, she had been so swept with relief that her face had lit up with a smile.

She laughed now, remembering the way his eyes had widened in surprise before he too offered her a shy half-smile of disbelief.

They had come to a silent understanding. Darjeeling was unmarked territory.

Not hers, not his, not theirs...

The washing machine stopped abruptly and sat in wait of her response. She reached forward and put her clothes in a woven basket. The small room was humid, the heat of the machines and boilers fighting with the falling rain. It had been a comfortable atmosphere at first - when she had been eager to avoid Kaka, Maan and the awkward situation upstairs - but now she had become impatient, wishing to be away quickly from this suffocation and back in the chill of the house.

Placing the basket on one hip, she walked out of the room and down the narrow corridor, ascending a small stack of steps two at a time until the sound of passing voices stilled her movements.

"... and that suitcase isn't here yet so I was wondering if I could please borrow something to wear for tonight."

"I have a few old sets of kurtas somewhere in the house. I bought them quite a few years ago but they have never been worn. I will search for them after dinner. You can keep one, if you would like..."

She waited until the voices disappeared before creeping back into the utility room from hell. Opening the wooden cupboard she had searched earlier for detergent, she located the small stack of neatly folded white kurtas.

Taking one in her hand, she shuddered a little at its coarse, scratchy material before closing the cupboard door.

With a reluctant sigh, she took the kurta to the washing machine and turned its dial again, making herself comfortable for another twenty minute wait.

So jiddi pagol wanted Kaka to be harsher on her. I suppose in a way that would show he cared for her well being. In an odd sort of way that makes sense for her character.

The contrast is in her relationship with Maan, she does not want him to do that. She has defined a border for him, thus far and no further.

Her contrasting behavior continues with the fact that she still wishes that he would abide by her wishes. I noticed the lover like description which glanced at his face and noted it all on there, the gauntness, the unruly hair. Even when she is mad at him, she is aware of him. Something about that makes me think that all is not lost here.

The marking of territory and the kurta are a contrast in indication, one for the discord and one for the accord in their relationship. Only for him... title applies in both cases..

Lovely writing.

Thanks for the update Zarin.

This wud sound to be a typical Indian women thought but I really love when my Maa and only my Maa takes care of my Bapi's clothes or other things,so when Geet after overhearing that Maan is in need of those old kustas, she decided to wash it for him,I loved it.Its gives a special right to the wife only.

So tho Geet wud have luved to be left alone but she smwhere liked being pursued.

I admire their silent understanding.

I m really curious, yaar, about the future.I am expecting the unexpected.

Loved it.

I don't know if it makes you sound like a typical Indian woman but I agree with you. There is a special love and care with which a husband and wife do these little things for each other, even if it's simpler or more convenient for others to do it or to do it themselves. It's more personal.
I know that some people would feel guilty, wondering if they were being 'anti-feminist' for wanting to do these things for their husbands but I don't think that's true at all. It is a matter of the heart and love, not ego and moreover, if it is your choice then by all means, do what makes you happy!

Oops, slightly off on a tangent there...

Thank you, Sampa. I'm quite excited about the future too because I'm thinking of going a completely different route to what I've had planned. Wish me luck!
