The discussion topics are not Invite only CC where one is prohibted from posting anything unless invited. So if that is what the TM wants why cant they create invite only posts..😊

I understand what you mean but again it varies from person to person, I have seen a post with disclaimer "Refrain from commenting if you disagree ___I respect your pov " and there when politely few members disagreed and stated their views the post maker politely discussed with them though they were not doing the 'I agree' part that was accused on her. So again its subjective.

@Sann - Yes I was at the receiving end. But i perfectly understand that it is not going to help if i put a disclaimer on my topics. Coz one who wants to disagree will always disagree and will not be restrictede from posting.
The very tone of the disclaimer is what hurts many times..

Isnt it better to open a by invitation only CC in that case- you will be totally saved from the gatecrashers. Why the Main Forum?

Can an author really choose who should read their work and who should not? Then why the restriction on the feedback? If it is rude (which is what the main grouse seems to be) then report it. That should serve the purpose, right? Offenders are unlikely to pay heed to such warnings.

As someone said above,

It's our right and preference to use it. If its not effectual, I or you can't only make conclusion on it not anyone else.

But If anyone using it, it gives a clear hint that its perhaps working very well for her. Than I do not think, anyone have any need to question on her disclaimer. All I know everyone has right & I will or anyone shld use it whenever I want so that me & other members don't get blasted or bashed.

I have seen CC's too stalked and content taken snapshot of and posted on open forum, so there is nothing that safeguards one from gatecrashers but again that does not mean one not try their bit.
I would rather want to hear from every post maker why they felt the need to add it.
I saw Nandita comment here and share her views as to why she added it, and I have also seen when people still commented to her post she politely did reply to all, all even those who mocked her.
Now if all post makers who add disclaimer share their views it will be easier to see what is the big question or offender 'the disclaimer' or 'the need for an disclaimer'.

The disclaimers that i have seen (and i m not just talking about Geet forum here 😆) made it seem like if u dont agree with my critique or if u dont believe this or that character /couple/story arc is god's gift to humanity than u r not welcome to post 😆. Off course in many other forums .. the disclaimers (no matter how "polite") made the other party even more adamant to post and there posts tended to go towards mocking and snide comments ... I see the same happening in Geet forum now.

From what i have seen, because of disclaimers, members who would actually voice their opinions politely and actually cause some healthy discussion and lively debates stay away and the ones who end up posting are the very ones the TMs are trying to filter out through those disclaimers.

So for me disclaimers defeat the purpose and actually give rise to groupism, deliberate attacks and even a sense of being perpetually victimized.

I guess it wont do for me to start thinking about the days when this persecution phobia wasnt there and most often than not debate was not seen equal to attack 😛

peace 😊

Ok ... so as I understand it, there is nothing such a topic maker could do if I took it upon myself to gatecrash such a topic, right?

For, as long I keep within the bounds of the prescribed code of conduct, I am not breaking any rule by merely posting on a thread with a disclaimer that, in fact, has no IF sanction.

The topic maker can exercise her right and ignore my post(s) (and if I were really thick-skinned, I would continue to post on that thread regardless), but cannot restrict me or report me for posting on that thread.

Friends here we need to reach to a proper conclusion on this issue since I see both sides hv few valid as well as invalid points..
I feel if disclaimers r put with a proper justification without insulting any member or fan grp, then its fine but if a disclaimer is put deliberately to put a member or a fan grp down thats when it becomes an offence...so if members can keep this difference intact while posting any sort of disclaimers in their post,it can b fine ..right ?🤔
And lets not put any such disclaimer where a member is asked not to post if its a different POV since in a open forum everyone has the right to speak what they feel is right as long as its not done in a insulting or taunting tone😊
How about a disclaimer saying "Plss no personal or sarcastic attacks in my post..all r welcome to give their views without attacknig anyone"😳

@Medha: Yup! and I am guilty of crashing someone elses party even though I did not agree with the TM and the disclaimer did say I was not welcome😆. I guess I value my freedom of expression too much and as long as IF does not forbid me to comment on such threads I shall continue to do so, if and when the fancy strikes me😆 <Quite shameless, aren't I>

Jyo, disclaimers no matter how valid tend to antagonize someone... thats human nature ... tell a child u r not allowed to eat sugar and off course the child will go and steal some anyway 😛

disclaimers shouldnt be there period! hell yaar .. i was part of a thread (CT) where we could call geet a bumbling idiot and maan headlights and it was okay bcos even the silent readers knew that it was in jest ... and there was never a problem ... keep ur posts open and friendly .. be open minded towards differing povs and more often than not it will be a heaven for healthy debate or discussion ... add a disclaimer and trouble makers will gather round it 😛

EDIT Seen ur edit now 😆 ... i agree with the last part .. but i do know that a slightly different opinion and a few think they r being attacked *rolls eyes*
