@ Jyo: What would any such disclaimer say then which is already not set out in IF's code of conduct?

@ Shradha: I am glad that you did gatecrash. For now, you can rest assured that you will not get a warning for having gatecrashed. And, no, I wouldn't call that shameless. I am sure everyone would agree that you were merely exercising your right without being apologetic about it.😆

@ Arwen: Spot on. It's the lure of the forbidden.

Medha and Arwen:Right now I see the forum itself is divided into 50-50 about this issue...one party is against any form of disclaimers while the other party feels if they don't put disclaimers then they r personally attacked in those posts...
So here if I had to give the final verdict..I need to give it from a neutral POV keeping in mind both sides of the coin...
and thats why I came with a solution of putting disclaimers which r written in a polite way allwoing all to comment but not offending anyone at the same time...and also if the post is debatable only then such disclaimers might b necessary to put otherwise not for every general post...and putting disclaimers doesn't mean ,its restricting a section of viewers to post there..like I said all hv the freedom to put thier POVs in any and every post without any personal attacks...

Jyo: I know you have your work cut out for you. And, we are probably making it more difficult for you.

But, my profession being what it is, I cannot help but raise some questions based on that.

What is the import of such a disclaimer? If I have a right to put up such a disclaimer (which does not prohibit anything beyond the already existent prescribed code of conduct), what is the remedy available to me that goes beyond what already exists? Where there is a right, there is a remedy. Conversely, if I have no additional remedy, what is the *new* right available to me?

What I have understood of it (and I could be wrong), such a *disclaimer* would actually be akin to a *reminder*, given the possible controversial contents of the topic, that refers readers back to the IF code of conduct which prohibits personal attacks and bashing.

PS: I have tried explaining this in some more detail in a PM. Please check it urgently. Thanks.

I agree Jyo. But what about people who put taunting Disclaimers? Like you said - Taunting the opposite fan group.. Shouldnt they be warned atleast verbally. Coz as Arwen pointed out, you tell the child not to have sugar he will steal it! So you taunt the fan group saying dont come here, its like a open invitation to dare oppose ones view...

This issue raises another question:

"Plss no personal or sarcastic attacks in my post..all r welcome to give their views without attacking anyone"...

Does the above disclaimer prevent the thread from being closed (banned)? It may be that the creator of thread is not at fault for creating the nuisance and still the thread is closed from having further discussions. This is a loss to the thread creator and to others who would still like to engage in healthy discussion.

There must be a general solution where the thread can still remain open and at the same time some actions are taken for the people creating the nuisance!

hope am not too late and all are not already bored/ irritated/ done with / watever with discussing the topic in hand...hope am still allowed to give my opinion on this..😊

firstly.. few of us started giving disclaimers at the starting of our posts due to some situations we experienced , witnessed and atlast thought that it would be better if we would keep a note or ps or disclaimer or anything before hand...so that some people who read, dont jump to conclusions and start bashing around in the name of "open forum discussions" or " everyone has a right to voice his/her views"

it dint point out to any particular person or group or anyone..it was just included for our own sanity to be in check and not for others.

it was not for degrading or bashing anyone in this forum, for a start.

all knows that there was a time in the forum where countless topics turned into war zone and some members bashed some others as the opposite person was not in favour of same point of view as himself/ herself... (pls dont tell me this dint happen...because its true and u cant deny it...our forum is still at the point of coming up from that situation..its still not yet totally out that situation either)

i know its the job of mods to check out for basher and we dont need to put down notes like that...but still there was a time when the mods lost their cool and were fed up with the situation of the forum...we were just taking precaution and trying to give a helping hand by putting a disclaimer and trying to avoid further fights..
we r not trying to pull or steal mods job..😊

there r different ways of voicing ur opinion...some kindly making the other person understand where they disagree with the topic maker and voicing out their reasons for the same..
some direct clear cut views put forward...yet in a good reasonable manner..
some outright bashing n calling names..
some were at a situation that..in order to prove their point or make the other person sucumb to their views...the discussion turned out to be a debate..and in turn it was made into a war..
there were some situations where the other persons are not ready to believe that the opposite person may also have a opinion ..or that it may differ from him..or that he too has a right to voice his opinion like himself...they just started bashing and calling names under watever reasons or excused or valid points they had..

' voicing ur opinion' is different from 'not listening to others at all' or ' u just have to bend urself and change ur opinion and listen to us' or 'calling names or degrading others or indirectly emotionally questioning one's character' ..etc etc..

pls dont tell me...in this forum..not even a single person was there who dint do any of the above things and all the members here are saints.

am not accusing or bashing anyone in particular..am just telling u wat i observed..the general tendency of members..or sorry...it should be "some members" not all ...so if u guys r not the ones who bashed others...then no need to worry or get worked up or get angry...because its not for u...so just ignore it and move on...it was for those who bash around in the name of voicing their opinion.
why is it making u feel bad or angry or prickling u when u see these kinds of notes...just think those r not for me..its for others and enter in a healthy discussion where you give ur opinion and u r ready to hear out others opinions irrespective of whether u agree with the person or not

we never said no for a healthy discussion...but the situations we lately experienced and the number of times we tried to express n explain our point of views...when it went for adament deaf ears ...we decided ..its no use discussig with them..and HEnce we came up with "DISCLAIMER"

we dint put up notes from the start...we r here at IF since long...if we r putting it now suddenly or lately..it means that we r forced (indirectly) to put that note..so that we dont loose our sanity in such un senseful..unbending debates...so we tried to avoid those and hence those disclaimers...its only for us and for gud health and not to type caste some one or to bash some one..

so..we will continue disclaimers in our posts until the forum becomes its original self like it used to be and when people r ready for a healthy discussions..till then..u guys have to bear with those disclaimers i think..

again i mention ..am not telling all members bash...i just said there were some who bashed and its for them who we wrote the disclaimer as a precaution...if u r not one among them...then ..yaar..u and me r on the same side and let that be understood that that disclaimer is not for u and hence dont get upset when u see one in future..

PS: hope i dint hurt anyone...i was just trying to explain the situation at our side of the coin ...and ya...u could say..if u dont want to discuss then why do u post...u can keep quite or send pms to same thinking people ..etc etc..
but guys.."the freedom of voicing our opinions irrespective of who agrees with u" holds good for us also and we love to make posts...😆 so we do post..
if u dont like them..just ignore them na

Lily: It's difficult to ignore what one does not like as that view might be offending. One may like to post in such threads to express displeasure, or give one's point of view. Silence always does not lead to harmony.

Plus, Who are WE here? Sadly, the WE has decided to block movement of varied thoughts in the forum.
