Question to moderators: Why disclaimers in posts?

I have been seeing an increasing flurry of posts with a disclaimer that dont read or post, if you do not agree. I am now beginning to wonder whether GF is an open platform where the basic intent is to engage with other human beings or is it going to become a platform for one way information dissemination.

I would like to also hear the views of other members as well- whether it is advisable for all of us to get locked into our silos or do we want an open and actively engaging forum.

Can we do away with such disclaimers, please? These disclaimers belong to closed and secret groups not open public platforms.

ps: I am just putting this up for debate...the idea is not to offend or attack anyone.

Disclaimer in an open forum is just absurd, especially when it's not an Invite only chat group. Why post in the forum when there is no patience or respect for different perspective or opinion. Keep the thoughts to oneself, circulate via PM, or make a blog entry with comment option off.

@pixie - I agree with u...disclaimers in open forum shudnt be allowed... if someoen whats only specific ppl or like minded ppl to read their posts, then such posts shud b made in teh chat clubs with invites only... MF is for posts for all to discuss... if tomorrow i write something indirectly but yet derogatory about some actor or member with a disclaimer that ppl shudnt bother respondign if they dont agree, then will that be ok?? nahi na... all these disclaimer posts should be banned immediately...

Certain disclaimers and rules r necessary for Appreciation threads of any actor or couple ...but other than app threads, none of the regular posts in a open forum can restrict any member from posting there as long as the member is not offensive or personally attacknig/mocking anyone
There r spl CCs which r invites only in chat club forum where the disclaimer counts but in general serial discussion forums anyone and everyone can post in any sort of discussion threrad...There is no restriction as such...
Sometimes if the fights among different fan grps r on rise in any forum ,then Dev team is left with no option but to ask each and every fan grp to put such disclaimers in their post to maintain peace in the forum and avoid any clash...
But Geet forum has not yet reached to that extreme stage ..so here still there r no such restrictions on any discussion post😊

I am in absolutely agreement with you (TM). Such disclaimers only act to create the situation worse in many ways. A lot of people (including moi 😆) feel the need to underline and discuss the fact that such a disclaimer has no value on a public forum. Just as everyone has the right to discuss their POV, groups/people with opposing views have the same right to bring forth their own argument/points. Whenever we publish something in public we open ourselves not only to congruent opinions but also criticism.

The whole point of forums is to discuss a topic and share opinions. Otherwise I really don't see the point of opening a thread.

One thing is very clear,

If you put your thoughts for the whole world to see
(one need not register on IF to see many of the threads) then it is evident that our intention is that others should read and comment. If one does not want any body to comment then one need not post and thus keep their thoughts to themselves. It is as simple as that.😊

The problem arises when we with our so called ego or superiority put some thoughts in the open and expect others also to accept them wholeheartedly. This also leads to not having patience to listen to conflicting or opposing views. Uske liye to bada samajdaar dil aur dimag hona chahiye jo bohut kum logon mein shayad ho (common sense is not so common)
😉hence a refrain or disclaimers.

PS we see this scenario everywhere. Switch on the tv and see what happens when so called intelligent and newsworthy people debate. 😆

I think me also doing the same thing now, anticipating and expecting everyone to understand me and not disagree with me. So signing off.

Good, thought provoking, sensible post 👏 hope we keep it open for an interesting and a healthy debate.

awesome post SV, I don't understand why they post it in the main forum as forums are meant to be a place of discussion, if you don't want it to be discussed then don't post it in the main forum, simple

@bold: But what purpose does that serve exactly? It completely defeats the point of an online discussion forum. As far as I am aware discussing includes sharing points of view, regardless of whether fan groups agree or disagree. So basically what you're saying is that if the situation does arise where that needs to be done then people will be given a warning and possibly banned for disagreeing with someone's point of view?🤣
Great post Pixie, it's something that frankly makes zero sense to me and no matter how hard I try, I fail to see the logic behind putting disclaimers in discussion posts.
I can understand why disclaimers are needed for appreciation threads or in a 'post pictures' thread asking for no comments but then why is it that every other topic on Geet forum has a disclaimer saying 'If you do not agree with me, then don't bash me and don't post because I'm not interested'.

Then again, disclaimers never bothered me that much. People can add whatever disclaimers they want to, if I have an opinion and wish to express it then I will make sure my opinion is heard no matter what.😊
