Part IX

Kinnari was working very hard for her exams. Whenever Asit would be back from shoot, he would see her sleeping with the books besides her. He would see how much she is focused to get good marks…

When Asit would sit and watch his serial to know how his scene was turned out on screen Kinnari would tell him.. no torture can be as big as watching this. Asit would get irritated with her comments…but he knew this was a relief for her from exams to taunt him about his serial's pathetic script. Kinnari told him, 'Asit Doesn't it bother u , don't u get irritated calling ur character Ram and doing things which even Ravan didn't do and justifying it with stupid logic.' Asit replied her saying No one in the media line will want to give away the chance he has to someone else… as u can be nowhere one fine day. Kinnari did not agree and kept insisting that she hates him when he is on screen and he replied 'nice to know she doesn't hate him off screen' Kinnari said she doesn't have an option here. Asit said he would help her if she wants to check other options to which Kinnari smiled and started going through her books.

The GMAT exams were close and Kinnari was preparing for it all the time. Asit told her he really can see how much she wants to get good marks in the GMAT exam and get through to higher studies in abroad? Kinnari told him, she doesn't want to go abroad. Asit was surprised by her answer. Kinnari told him, she has worked very hard to get through the papers, preparations for GMAT now though she really doesn't want to go abroad and pursue MS or any course there , she really doesn't want to waste the time she spent in this whole year working hard for the exam. For the sake of the hard work she gave in, she will appear and get real good marks that little will surely make her father happy whenever he gets to know.

Asit smiled by her answer and with a sharp look at her..told her, ' Kinnari U don't want the hard work u spent on the preparations to go waste and so appearing for it ...though it may not be of much use to u if u really don't want to follow things usually people follow after appearing for such entrance. Just take this in account and look with the same perspective to my side… I have really worked hard & struggled to get a break either in TV or in films and when by the grace of god I got a break in a big serial which is so popular now to leave it and leave the fame… its not easy … I can't let my hard work go waste.. I have faced the time I would plead my friends to get me through to meet a producer, get my profile to the table of the channel… and now I feel terrible to risk and get back to zero... all have their destiny, I have responsibilities towards my family … I cant risk my career … my lively hood.. Until I don't get my financial security stable I really can not think of leaving the serial which for u is far too regressive…

Somewhere the pain in the words of Asit made her realize her mistake that she was getting to influence rather than understand him.

Kinnari GMAT paper was due and here she realized at the last moment that she had forgotten her important papers to be able to appear for the test at her home. She called up Asit totally tensed and asked him to go to her home and bring the papers. She had told her father she won't come back to the door step of her house so she cant go. Asit at the first instant said NO WAY!. But by hearing Kinnari's tensed voice he felt he will make an attempt. He later asked her he wants Khari kamee discount if he goes… Kinnari told ya sure and he asked her to cook dinner free of cost for him. Asit said if the dinner is not worth to eat then what?… she said he should not order dinner the next time … both laughed…. Asit's words had eased Kinnari's tension.

Asit in the lunch break went to Kinnari's house and as her father opened the door he asked if he could get the documents Kinnari has to give her GMATexam tomorrow. Her father heard and banged the door on him.

Until 15 minutes, he stood there and after that Kinnari's father opened the door and saw him still standing… he asked him how he knew he would open the door and give the documents. Why did he wait so long here… Asit smiled and said, 'Uncle I don't know how much u love ur daughter, I don't even know how much u hate me and ur daughter… but one thing I was pretty sure that.. U may not want to show ur love… but u want her to realize .. u still give her education more preference… I waited knowing after 10 minutes when ur anger will be calm.. U would think about this and surely give me the documents..'

Kinnari's father looked at him with a lot of pain in his eyes… he controlled his emotions and said, 'What is the use of understanding how much I value education how much I wanted her to be on her feet and earn handsomely with pride… she wasted her capabilities by marrying u… I brought her up like a son but she…' Asit replied back as he couldn't control to tell him.. 'Uncle.. She really values the things u taught. She respects education just like u... Its only that everyone cant enjoy studies in the same pattern... some like to study with music on... some like to study walking memorizing, some make notes, some highlight the points… some take a hourly break go for walk. Uncle U needed to give her that little space to decide how she can enjoy her studies… and alittle time of leisure eases the tension'. Hearing this Kinnari's father got angry feeling who is Asit to teach him and threw the documents on his face, banged the door…

Kinnari got her documents and when in the night Asit told her about his meeting with her father she felt emotional that the documents feel like the best wishes on her whether they r thrown or poured.. it will give her good luck… They had the dinner and Asit.. told her he was actually tensed that if like ' Kya Aap panchvi pass se tez hain' his father takes his general knowledge test, give punishment or instead of banging the door had banged his head what would he do… Asit said after having the free dinner meal the discount was worth the risk he took. Kinnari told him so what if his father didn't take a test she is ready to take the Panchvi pass se tez hain test… Asit told her.. She will surely ask him PHd done questions not fifth std types.. Asit told her he will ask her paanchvi pass se tez questions..it will also help her for her exam tomorrow… Kinnari was so confident she said. Ya sure…

Asit: Ok Kinnari .. (Making a face looking very romantically towards her)

Kinnari was wondering why he is looking at her with such expressions… feeling awkward..

Asit: Kinnari.. When in a park, there is fragrance of flowers which is so mesmerizing its raining and a boy goes there he meets a girl.. What do the people around them say…. (Feeling shy and smiling …)

Kinnari: This is not paanchvi class questions…cheap types.. I wont answer..

Asit: Oh, I thought u were intelligent.. U have a very dirty mind... The people around will say... 'Boy met girl.' this was from the IInd std English grammar.. ok!

Kinnari felt embarrassed and decided next question she will answer without getting disturbed by his acting gimmicks..

Asit: Ok.. What is 2 plus 2… 2+2?

Kinnari smiled and very confidently immediately answered: 4

Asit: what?

Kinnri: I said 4

Asit: U loose half mark… u should say 2+2= 4.. that's 2 plus 2 equals to 4.

Kinnari: but the answer was correct what happen if I didn't say 'equals to'?

Asit: Oh, these days the children are facing so much problem.. such details effect their career… (Kinnari looked at him with amusement that …) if u dont say equals to.. we can assume u mean 2plus2 is approximately 4… (Kinnari had an irritated feeling now..)

Kinnari: Go to th next..

Asit was enjoying this and he thought smiled thinking the next question….

Asit: Ok.. in a house the granny looks out of the window and say her uncle has come, granny's son also agrees and tells his wife, his uncle has come… his wife tells the children that her uncle has come, the children talk to the neighbors and say their uncle has come… the neighbours children tell their parents.. their uncle has come..their parents say.. yes they know their uncle has come..and…

Kinnari: what's this question or story…

Asit: question.. Tell me who this uncle is... and why for everyone he is their uncle..

Kinnari: Santa claus came or what? The granny should have not opened the window.. she said and was confused what the answer can be…

Asit: chh chh Merit Rank holder Kinnari Das… cant answer this Ist std level question….

Kinnari got angry..and asked him to answer qucikly…

Asit: who else.. our dear 'Chandamama' had come.. Chanda is moon, Mama means unce..he is uncle for all of us…

Kinnari: In which children book was this taught…

Asit: u lack general knowledge, I must have read school books less but Chandamama , Tinkle such books more in my school days…

Kinnari: U r tricking me with weird questions… I am not going to answer anything now…

Asit: U are scared u will loose, I dont know how u will score well in tomorrows exams…

Kinnari: oh..the people who set our papers haven't lost their minds to ask such questions..

Asit: This is not loosing sense its called 'sense of humour' .. Which usually girls lack…

Kinnari: Oh.. u feel u r humourous.. ya u r with the set of jokers writing ur serials script u can get anything.. but not common sense….

Both argued and the dinner ended with this. While both were sleeping, They thought in their mind..

Kinnari smiled and thought: Yes, he has good sense of humour… how spontaneously he made up those funny questions and the weird answer so that I loose… he went and faced Dad... he is brave I must say...

Asit on the other hand was thinking : I knew she is good in studies but she can cook so well I never knew… I loved the Panneer masala.. oh it was so yummy… Dad will love to taste this recipe, curry was also delicious, the chicken leg was too good… its one of his & my favourite dish….

Both slept feeling they are discovering so much about each other…

Asit next day while shooting called up Kinnari asked her how the papers went and was happy to know Kinnari did well. Kinnari told she is going out and will be back around 10pm, she is going to meet her friend & will have dinner together. Kinnari met her friend and after they had the dinner they went to News house centre and there she saw the anchor she liked on TV… Kinnari's friend was giving her Bio-data for jobvacancy in the News house centre. Kinnari sat observing him... She got to know from her friend how the female with him is getting the higher post by getting cosy with the news head these days. They spoke about his wife and children living in a small house in UP while he is enjoying his time with a flat in Delhi and Mumbai. His life had many dark areas and was called a creep by his teammates, which was a shock to Kinnari. A person whom she appreciated as good looking and intelligent now felt how dumb she was. He was walking holding his new interest along side, the women easily can be make out is bold and knows she is just enjoying her time not serious about anyone. The meaningful talks about society he use to say on the news channel was scripted she got to know.

Kinnari walked back home this incident made her mature not to judge people so easily. She felt people who may be doing meaningless character onscreen can be meaningful people off-screen. She felt they are much better than the ones who try to portray to the outside world and through media how 'holy' they are, but in real life they actually stink.

Kinnari came home and told Asit about what she saw, they discussed how the media line has many such stories where people get shocked to know the real person inside and what they assumed him to be. Kinnari now felt extremely lucky, at least Asit is not among those or else the problem she would get in… 'Together by chance' if she would be with someone else & not Asit… may be she would have faced the worst… now she was a bit scared of thinking what it be if she would be together by chance with someone else.. she could be used by such creeps she felt.. A lot of emotional turmoil she went wondering the grey areas in the lives of many actors. The ones who have drugs to keep them active and kicking to make them work for 14hours. The ones who cant live without a girlfriend in bed. The thought made her to respect Asit and his warm nature more… at the same time as a woman she felt too scared of the outside world… she now could understand what it could be living alone with a stranger could turn ugly as well.

As Kinnari walked thinking about all this, she was changing her clothes in the bathroom… She wore her loose Kurta… she tried to tuck in the hook but she couldn't. She left it and came out wondering how people become so fake in front of camera and interviews. As Asit saw her, he immediately looked the other side and told her, ' I guess u have forgotten something…' Kinnari wondered, the little hook how he could know that…. she looked at her outfit and her Kurta was proper… Later she realised she had forgotten her salwar… she with embarrassment rushed inside the bathroom…and she wore the salwar and later she had tears in her eyes.. She felt how could she... she cried feeling very ashamed to face him .. She came outside sat, Asit had left and sat in the bedroom.. Kinnari was trying to watch the TV but she was getting angry how she will face him again… Asit looked at her and observed tears in her eyes , her eyes had gone red… Asit had come inside so that she doesn't get embarrassed more but he felt he should try and calm her.. He went and sat in front of her…

Asit: Why r u crying?

Kinnari didn't answer.. but just wiped her tears ..

Asit smiled: Kinnari… u r really very cute. Its just ok.. I saw u in a sec and noticed closed my eyes… don't get embarrassed and upset with it… I have seen girls wear Kurtas and tie a scarf on the hip and it's a complete dress… I observed u usually wear salwar over ur long loose kurtas at night… so I told u.. dont cry so much for this little thing…

Kinnari: I feel terrible.. I feel.. really angry. How could I.. I was thinking about so many things while changing.. and.. Chii..Chii… For a woman its so important to know she cant afford such mistakes ever… I am such a hopeless stupid.. (she cried endlessly..)

Asit felt how people have a misconception about Mumbai girls even he had while he stayed in Delhi. Kinnari is modern, she wears skirts, jeans, T- shirts but still she holds the traditional shy woman inside her...

Asit: Kinnari, u need to forget it…. And u haven't seen my serial. I have endlessly stood there in my towel and trying to wear my shirt, the female lead comes and my shirt button has to get vanished and she has to come and say.. 'button lagati hun ek minute' and a romantic scene needs to start.. With a Pehli nazar kaisa jadu kardiya …song in the background….. I never understood why cant I remove the shirt and give her... it would be easy to stitch the shirt button properly…

(Kinnari laughed with his observation….)

Kinnari: Whatever be the logic, its one romantic scene which u can see only in Indian cinema or telly.. … our patent scene ….

Asit: Am so happy to see that smile on ur face…Kinnari.. No crying… akhir main hi tha.. waise U need to tone ur legs I think….

Kinnari looked at him angrily…

Asit: Just kidding dear…

He went towards his room and Kinnari looked at him with a shock expression and Asit turned behind with his shock expression…

Asit: opps.. Sorry just slip of tongue.. I meant kidding.. woh dear apne aap add hua.. yunhi nikalgaya… don't take it otherwise..

Kinnari smiled: Forget it Asit.. Dear hee kaha… 'honey, darling, sweety' .. to nahi na…

Asit: Agar pukarleta galti se to…?

Kinnari: Tooo … there would start Kahani Hamarey Mahabharat Ki …I would just say a dialogue, ' Dusht yeh shabd tumhare muh se sunne se pehle mere praan kyun nahi likalgaye'.

They laughed and Kinnari told him, now no one should say girls lack sense of humour. Asit smiled and went in his room and slept, Kinnari had turned the lights off. Both just wondered they had for the first time a conversation that is making them blush for no reason.
