Explicit content is NOT allowed on I-F - Page 5

Umm okay, here's the thing, I realize I'm a relatively new writer at IF and I kinda feel like a kid speaking out of turn but I am a veteran when it comes to Fanfic writing I've been writing since I was 14-15, so I believe I am qualified to talk about age restraints.

First off, Adult Content/ Explicit Content which is what everyone seems to have an issue with, first of all what we need to understand is these are stories revolving around two adults. Which means it is natural that a physical expression of love will follow, it is ridiculous to assume that these two adults will not consummate a relationship and in ways almost hypocritical to say it's okay to mention it but not describe it 'more than necessary' a term that is completely restricting an author. I can't imagine writing knowing i can't write certain things because a nine year old may read it, I have a ten year old sister, i don't think she should even be reading kissing scenes...I don't let her watch IPKKND or any soap for that matter at all, she should be reading Babysitters Club or Nancy Drew, not drooling over supposedly 26 year old male leads. Please do not take this the wrong way, I am not saying smut ficlets are enriching the site but some fanfictions reach a peak at which the act is as important as what follows and precedes it.

Secondly, As for this being a family friendly site, if we intend on accommodating nine year old's I find it hardly acceptable that there is any mention of curious touching, near-adultery, manipulative evil villains or even talking back to elders.Not to mention what perverse affects some of the horrid grammar in some of the fics could have on young children who are only just developing their grasp on the intricacies of a language, So why draw the line there? Do we see how it doesn't make sense to cater to nine year old's when the story is based on adults in adult situations?

Thirdly, As for contacting the Site owner that isn't something we can do now is it. Which is why we as avid fans of this forum are asking the mods to seriously look into it. Also, there are a number of things that can be done to help, maybe if we introduced a rating system as earlier suggested and locked certain archives to 18+ readers, we would be saving us all some trouble. Another thing that could be looked into is perhaps a Beta system, which although unrelated to this post would help a lot of budding writers who need help in understanding how to put together scenes and even in story-building.

To conclude all I would like to say is, I've written for a lot of Sites, and every major Newspaper in my country - but the sweetness with which the fans on IF are joined together in their mutual love of these soaps is not just giving us splendid stories, but actual friendships.

I was going through a tough time in my life when I joined this forum, the support and encouragement offered by the Fan base you have is what sets you apart.

I humbly ask you - Please don't ruin that.

Don't let anything ruin that.

Take steps to accommodate your nine year-old's but don't forget your adult fan following who come login here first thing after a bad day at University because in ways the friends and fans they've found here help them find light in a dark day. And because they want to give back to a show that brightens their day.

There are ffs wch have shown all this pretty decently and there ffs where even a 25 plus person cant read it, and will shut it down, its about the words and unnecessary description of the whole thing

There not "children" here yet quite young kids from 15 -18 who are curious to read things, to know things and perceive it differently. and may develop thoughts that can lead to implement it all practically too' its just matter of a little responsibility

I have one question for you, how do you write a heart-wrenching rape scene, or molestation scene in a way that is no matter how 'tactful' appropriate for a young reader. Kids of age nine shouldn't even be reading Bridge to Terabithia, I told my baby sister she couldn't read it till she was 12 because of how reading about a friends death would affect her.

It is ridiculous to assume 'intercourse scenes' are the only thing's on this site inappropriate for young readers. And even more so to assume a writer can write at all about adult characters without writing something inappropriate for a 9 year old.Unless we're all going to be sticking to the stork story when it comes to children of course, and saying all the dead people go to play croquet with God.

The last line is sarcastic by the way, just in case you're nine and don't know the stork didn't fly you in.

im on a lot of forums n we all have our email ids as well n to my knowledge theres a limited age line wen your making an id n also registering on any social networkin site n all...
n dat limited age line DOESNOT has an option which could include 9 years old...
n if its doing NOW then im sure the developers knw that they're allowing those KIDS who still might not have reached the age of long devision...

n the parents of such KIDS are allowing their KIDS to be on the internet who is offering everything...n i mean EVERYTHING on stool here...

n if such KIDS r sittin n readin ANY stuff on IF then they certainly NOT being curfewed...so these KIDS r surly visitin sites dat really dont go down to check there age...

secondly like Janet said there are ways of categorizing work by age factor...
surly this could be done easily as every other regulation is made...
but THEN if you find a KID then we adults should not be put under spotlight please...

thirdly...theres a certain type which could be called po*nographic crass dirty n all...something that gives you creeps...

something i wouldn't allow my younger sister to read...

but if anyones calling Pandora box crass then im personally hurt...
i allow my younger sis to read it...i ask her how she likes the story n let her opinions be my comments sometimes...

thus should i feel that i was allowin my younger sibling to read po*n!!!...
is that wats become of me who prides to have brought up her sis with dignity to a person who allows her to read something below one's dignity...
certainly NOT...im PROUD she read it...the story dealt with lives my own forefathers had gone through...it had our history somewhere...our people...our culture too...

lastly if get my amma here n let her see so much curfew n presence 9 year olds then she'll certainly freak out...
i kept out of all things i knew my young brain would not understand n if i ever broke my curfew then i never went around complaining coz i had in my mind that THAT particular was NOT for me to UNDERSTAND...

till today i dont use certain 4 letter words but thats my take on how i live my life n how much explicit or crass i can be...

i dont go around shutting up people who use them or smoke a cigrette or drink a beer...
bitch about their friends or steal their barbies or break their crayons( 9 year olds)...

so i'll too want that no one objects my reading tastes...
my freedom as a reader...
my right as a writer n DEFINATELY my decisions of wat or wat not i should read...

P.S.- i started readin MBs wen i was 13 n if i get a 13 year old here complainin about stuffs being CRASS especially if I too am readin it then im surly pullin that KID out coz thats my CURFEW for them.

So does this mean IF is only meant for nine year olds? The rest of us should be forced to settle for baby contents just because some parents fail to monitor what their kids are doing online. What sense does this make?

The writers should be free to write what they want and the readers should be free to read what they want. It is not our job to make sure the content is safe for some certain kids who should not be on IF anyways. People reading these FFs are reading on their own will, they are not being forced.

Why can't we just stick to the old "Mature Content" warning? When readers are given a fair warning of adult content, they have absolutely no right to complain.

Many IF member, including me, are extremely disappointed as "Pandora's Box" is being closed down. It's a beautifully written story, which is now being closed down because of some kids who are not supposed to be reading it anyways.

Why is IF being changed for a small percentage of the members? Do the rest of the members not matter anymore? If this continues, many members will be leaving IF because we have absolutely no interest in reading children's stories.

Today, one FF is being closed down and soon all others. There will be nothing left on IF.

Please mods, create rules that will favor all IF member, not just kids.
