A glimpse of the future
"Geet!" I called out to her having finally gotten a grip over myself.
No response.
"Geet!"
There was no movement from her... Not a single sound... Not even a blink...
it was as if she had turned into a stone...
"Geet" I raised my voice in the hope of getting her to look away from the
floor. "Look at me, Geet!" I wanted her to avert her gaze from the messy
kitchen floor that seemed to have trapped her.
A whole minute passed as I waited for her response. I could not believe this
was happening... All the progress she had made in the past three months seemed
to have vanished... I was back to where I had started out with her. I found
myself giving an accusing glare to the spaghetti that was scattered on the
floor - spaghetti had caused all this...
"Why, Geet?" I questioned her again this time using a more authoritative
tone.
"Why?"
There was a movement from her... It was swift and abrupt... Her whole stance changed... She was no longer standing hunched up with a bowed head... No, the
Geet that stood in front of me had me taking a step back from her.
"Geet?" I asked fear gripping me as I looked at the anger and hatred
emanating from her. The eyes that were always clouded with tears... the eyes that
held so much fear were now consumed with such strong loathing that it gave me
the chills.
She did not give me a verbal respond but she stood defiantly in front of me,
her eyes dark and forbidding as they glared at me. Her honey brown eyes had
turned to dark green... I knew something
in Geet had changed in a matter of few minutes... Something I found hard to
process. The change had been so swift and abrupt that it left me with my eyes
wide and my hands trembling in fear.
"Please give that to me" I requested as my eyes fixed upon her hand.
She was clutching a knife tightly in her hand as she stood erect, threateningly
pointing the sharp tip of the knife in my direction. How did she got hold of a knife without my notice?
"Geet, please put the knife back" I ordered cringing inside at the tremble
in my voice.
She glared at me and shook the knife meaningfully and I couldn't help but
wrap my arms around my swollen stomach in protection. I knew I had to tread
carefully, a simple lift of my hand could provoke her into attacking me... the
hatred emitting from her was enough to make me fearful of her... I knew she was
capable of attacking me... and it was precisely at this moment when I concluded a
rather startling fact... Geet had attacked
someone before...
