*** Part 1 ***

It was early in the evening in the small town, the farming land village called "Hushiarpur." The haveli of the serpanch/Mayor was like always devoid of any noise, the many doors and windows closed and draped with the dark green color curtains. There was not a single sign of sunlight that entered the Haveli.

Sukhdev Lal Handa was born in Madhi, the Handa's was the only wealthy family in Hushiarpur but they took no pride in it. The family was known for the sharp business man like mind. Vikrant Handa was the first to move to the city in search of success, with years he found success and grew the family wealth. But he returned back to his hometown Hushiarpur with his wife and only son, Mohender Handa. Because of his sharp mind and the family reputation it did not take him long to take the title as Hushiarpur's serpanch which after his death 4 years ago was passed to his son Mohender Handa. Mohender was every bit like a Handa, the same temper, the same calculating mind and the same male dominance. Mohender believed and followed the words of his father. Mohender like his father became the serpanch of the small growing town Hushiarpur, he was the most respected, and the wealthiest man, everyone looked up to him, came only to him for advice and he listened to their problems with patience and guided them in solving their problems.

The loud chiming of the old wooden wall clock alerted Mohender of the time, he looked up from the book he was reading and stared at the clock frowning deeply upon seeing the time. It was time for his tea; he glanced at the door waiting for the girl to bring his evening tea. His gaze returned back to the wall clock, he watched as the clock ticked by indicating the lateness, his anger increased along with the tickling of seconds in the clock.

"B-Ba-Baba" came the scared and meek voice from the girl, she stood wearing a faded green colored long sleeved shalwar kameez, her head bent down covered with a dupatta. She noiselessly walked up to him and placed his tea on the table, her head still bent down.

Mohender glared at her "two minutes, two whole minutes" he stated in a loud voice which had the girl backing two steps.

"Ba-Baba, s-ssor..ssorry Baba, woh.. Chai h-haath se g-gi-gir...gayee thi... P-phir se ba-banani padi" Stuttered the girl, her whole body trembling in fright of the upcoming blows she was going to receive for her lateness and her clumsiness. She accidentally clutched her hands together tightly not caring of the stinging in her hands. The hands were red from the spill of the hot tea, she hadn't had the time to put ice or run cold water on her hands as she had to clean the whole spill, and pick the broken cup pieces that were scattered on the kitchen floor. If it hadn't been for Brij Veerji who had purposely pushed her while she was preparing to take the tea to Baba then she would have been saved from burning her hands and the blows she was sure to receive now.

"Koi kaam theek se nahi hota... Nothing... You can never do anything right" Mohender screamed at her slamming the book on the table as he got up from the rocking chair and advanced towards the girl.

"B-Baba... P-plea... please ssorry... It will n-never happen again... I-I pro..." The girl's plea was silenced as she received the first blow on her right cheek, the force of which had her falling on the floor. She was weak and the blow was too hard like always, her jaw stung, and she knew that her cheek already had the red hand print mark. She watched with frightened eyes as Mohender raised his foot to kick her stomach but the loud ringing of the door bell saved her from the painful kick.

"Out" Mohender ordered shutting his door, not caring to help his daughter even though he heard the cracking of her bones. He knew her hand was broken but it wasn't the first time, there was no need to waste his time in tending to the girl. It was because of her own clumsiness, she never did anything right.

"Get back to your room, lock the door. I don't want to hear any sound coming from your room. Not even your breathing" Mohender ordered but the girl was gone before even hearing his words. There was no need to; she had been hearing the same words since the day she entered in the haveli. She knew very well that every time the doorbell rang indicating the arrival of a guest she was to disappear from the haveli, lock herself in the basement which was her room.

She knew no one, not one single soul in the town knew of her existence except her father and her three brothers. The whole town knew that Mohender Handa had three sons who were his pride and who he loved and cared deeply for but no one knew that he also had a daughter. The daughter who he hated, loathed the sight of her, and who he has kept locked inside the haveli away from the preying eyes of the world, away from the outside world which his daughter knew nothing about just like the outside world knew nothing of her'.. no one knew about the existence of Geet Handa...

***Part 2***

She knew no one, not one single soul in the town knew of her existence except her father and her three brothers. The whole town knew that Mohender Handa had three sons who were his pride and who he loved and cared deeply for but no one knew that he also had a daughter. The daughter who he hated, loathed the sight of her, and who he has kept locked inside the haveli away from the preying eyes of the world, away from the outside world which his daughter knew nothing about just like the outside world knew nothing of her….. no one knew about the existence of Geet Handa…..

*******

"Mohan, tum es samay yahan kya kar rahe ho, aaj to ladke wale aarahe haina" (what are you doing here at this time, weren't the groom's family coming today?) Mohender asked upon seeing the man at his doorstep.

"Main barbad ho gaya Bhaiyaji, meri zindagi bhar ki kamayi hue izzaat lut gayee" (I am ruined brother, my lifelong earned respect is at stake) wailed Mohan in front of Mohender.

"What happened Mahendra kaka?" Brij asked as he stood beside his father.

"Meri badi beti Channi ghar se bhaag gayyee Bhaiyaji... we have been searching for her since morning but still haven't found her …. Ab ek ghante mein ladke ki dadima aur bahen ane wale hai sangeet ke liya ab mein kya karoon mujhe aap hi bataye Bhaiyaji" (My daughter Channi, has eloped from home, there is only an hour left for the groom's family to reach here for the sangeet ceremony, I don't know what I should do now) Mohan informed him of his problem, he didn't know what to do. He and his family had been searching the whole day for Channi when they didn't found her in her room. He could not understand how his daughter could do this, he knew her too well, and he knew she could never do this but all the happenings hinted that his daughter ran away from home. He just didn't understand why? She was so happy with the alliance; she was excited and had been going on about her dreams of living in the city as the wife of the biggest businessman. Then what went wrong?

"This is a very big problem, teen din baad shaadi hai aur ladki gayab. Yeh kya kiya tumhari beti ne. Did you not inform your daughter how important this marriage is for Hoshiarpur's development? Pura Hoshiarpur es shaadi se aas laga kar bhaitha hai, tum jaante hona." (only three days are left for the wedding and the Bride is missing…. What has your daughter done! Don't you know the whole town has expectations from this marriage?) Mohender asked, angered at the news. This marriage was very important for the development of the town; if the groom's family took the news hard then they could set the whole town back to when it was just a baseless small village. It was the hard work of his father and him that the small nameless village was now a growing town, developing itself into a productive city but this one mistake could take away everything Mohender and his father had worked so hard on.

"You go home now Mohan, Ladke walon se baath karo unhe saab baath batao dekho kya kahethe hai, unhe samjoa, maafi maangon unse, binthee karo ki woh es baath ki wajah se saare Hushiarpur ko na udaas kare aur unse kaho ki es ghalati ke liye hum unki koibhi maang poori karenge" (go home and talk with the groom's family, explain them the situation, ask them for forgiveness, request them to not take any drastic step from which our town's people might suffer) Mohender advised Mohan.

"lekin Bhaiyaji" Mohan protested but stopped realizing his mistake, he knew Mohender Handa never gave a wrong advice.

"You don't worry Mohan, talk to them and then come directly for the panchayat. We all can discuss about this and consider what we should do next" Mohender explained and hoped the groom's family would not take any drastic step upon hearing the news. He was sure the family was sensible enough, and traditional, he knew they would not ask for anything that was valuable for Hushiarpur.

"Jee theek hai Bhaiyaji" Mohan obeyed, touched Mohender's feet and left for his house, feeling relieved at having the support and assurance of the serpanch……

"Do you know something about the disappearance of Channi" Mohender asked noticing the mischievous glint in his elder son's eyes.

"I think even you do Baba" Brij replied slyly. Mohender stared at his son with confusion, and then realization downed on him.

"Is Channi the girl Gurwinder was talking to me about last night?" Mohender asked wanting to make sure he was right in his assumption.

"Yes, Baba" Brij answered.

"I can't believe this, from all the girls in this town he had to pick Channi the one who is… was getting married into Kailashnath's family. He should have at least told me that. I actually gave him permission to marry whichever girl he wanted. Tell me Brij, what was Gurwinder planning on doing with the girl?" Mohender asked, he regretted allowing his son to fulfill his desire. He thought it was just some girl from the nearby village, he did not for once think that it was Channi, and neither did he think on whether his son just lusted after the girl or just wanted to take revenge or actually loved her.

"Baba! I am so happy today" Gurwinder's voice boomed as he walked in excitedly and hugged his father very much aware of the situation he had caused in his desire to get even with Channi.

"What did you do with Channi?" Mohender asked his son in a hard voice, but he could not get angry at his son when he looked so happy.

"I kidnapped her last night and forced her into marrying me" Gurwinder exclaimed as if it was a normal thing to do.

"WHAT? You married her without my permission" Mohender screamed in shock, this was getting more difficult now. He knew he would have to ask forgiveness and plead in front of everyone because of his son's mistake.

"Baba, I asked you last night, you said I can do whatever I wanted so I got married to her like I wanted to" Gurwinder reminded his father with a frown. He did not like to see his father angry, he never got angry at him or his brothers, he only got angry at HER but never at him. He did not like it, he was so happy he got married to Channi, he hated her she was always calling him stupid and idiot and then since the past few weeks she had been flaunting about how she was getting married to the handsome and intelligent businessman from the city. He hated her even more, he had first thought of killing her but then decided to marry her then she will have to stay at his house just like his sister was living. In darkness!

"Baba don't love Gurwinder anymore, Baba angry at Gurwinder" Gurwinder cried seeing his father glaring at him in anger. Mohender smiled seeing his son using that same tactic again. Gurwinder was still so very much like a child, slow at things, his behavior and attitude of a child and everyone in the town knew about it but none dared to point out that Gurwinder Handa, son of Mohender was an autistic man!

"No Gurwinder, I am not angry, I am just upset. You should have told me the girl was Channi but never mind that. Where is she now?" Mohender asked realizing that he still hadn't seen Channi.

"She is standing outside, she said she won't come inside before the ghra-something" Gurwinder answered. Mohender and Brij laughed at Gurwinder's words, Brij ruffled Gurwinder's hair while Mohender went outside to talk with Channi wondering how he was going to explain this to everyone at the panchayat...

******

It was after a whole hour of apologies and explanations in front of everyone from both Mohan and Mohender that they finally were able to discuss on how to solve this problem.

"Ab kya karien Bhaiyaji, the sister said that they all came here for her brother's marriage and we promised them that. She is saying that if we don't find a girl who is richer and sanskari than Channi then they will shut down their factories and start construction on their farming lands." Mohan explained.

Everyone in the panchayat listened to his whole meeting with groom's family. How the groom's grandmother and sister were both angry upon hearing the news. They stated that their son/brother will have to get married on the decided marriage date. They have informed of the marriage to everyone, the invitations have already been sent, everyone is waiting eagerly for this marriage, the news reporters, their friends and relatives will all be present at the wedding. Their whole reputation was at stake; it had taken them a great deal of persuasion to finally make their son consent to get married. The sister was very angry, she threatened if her brother did not get married in this week then she will ruin Hushiarpur. The sister had in clear words stated "Mujhe mere bhai ke liye dulhan chahiye, it does not matter if the girl is not as educated as Channi but the girl should be beautiful, wealthy and traditional. You and your Hushiarpur inhabitants have till tomorrow afternoon to find a suitable bride for my brother." She had left in anger shouting the threat of ruining the whole town if they did not find a suitable girl.

"What should we do Mohender, you tell us. How can we find any suitable girl in such a short notice? You know how our towns' people are; none of them are going to agree to get their daughter married to a man from the city. And I don't believe there is any girl who is as beautiful and matured as Channi is" said Bhadura Sing, one of the senior member in the Panchayat group.

"Kalpana, Shailendar ki beti. What about her? She is beautiful, educated and sanskari and the family is quite wealthy" Mohender suggested, he was hoping and praying the situation would not go so far that he would have to take the decision he was not willing to take.

"Her marriage is already fixed with Shrikant Kaka's youngest son" His son Brij informed.

"What about Radha's daughter? She has just returned from the city completing her studies." Bhadura suggested.

"She is not sanskari, dekha nahi kaise kapre pahen ke ghoomthi hai and kaise har ladke ko chipakthi hai. Unhe aise ladki nahi chahiya" Mohan pointed out and so on went the suggestions but not one was suitable enough to become the Bahu of Kailashnath's family. It was not like there were no girls that were good and beautiful enough, it was the difficulty of finding a girl that came from a rich family. There were very few families that fit in the list of wealthy families. Even though the town has been developing into a city but the people still had the same old superstitious believes.

"Baba, What do you think about HER" Gurwinder whispered into his father's ear, seeing how this whole problem has come to because of his wish. He did not like when his father had to apologize to the whole town because of what he did.

"Kaun Gurwinder" Mohender asked, even though he had the inkling about who his son was suggesting because he had been thinking the same thing.

"HER… that girl in our house" Gurwinder answered a bit too loudly.

"Who is he talking about Mohender" Bhadura asked. Mohender sighed; all eyes were on him now. It seemed like she was the only one that was suitable enough for all this. The sister wanted a traditional, wealthy and sanskari girl, then his daughter was all that but how will he suggest this to the towns people who knew nothing of her.

"Geet" Mohender answered.

****Part 3****

"Who is this Geet? We don't have any girl in this town with that name" Vijay stated.

"You all know I had to go to Chandigar the past week. Megha, my wife's sister died last week and I had gone there to give my condolence. Geet is Megha's daughter, now that both Megha and her husband are dead, Geet had no one to live with so I brought her home with me yesterday. She is of marriage age, bohut sanskari hai aur agar hum ladke walon se kahe ki woh meri beti hai tho phir woh uske kandaan and wealth ki baath nehi puchenge." (she is very cultured and traditional and if we tell the groom's family that Geet is my daughter then they will not question anything about her family and wealth) Mohender explained, he knew it was a very lame lie but then again it seemed believable because the town's people believed and obeyed anything he said.

"It is possible to solve this problem by presenting Geet as my daughter in front of them. This will leave no questions from them. And it will not be a lie to them really; I have brought Geet with me as my daughter." Mohender added, he waited as the Panchayat members discussed it amongst themselves, few protesting about lying such a big lie but Bhadura supported Mohender. It was finally decided that Mohan will call the grandmother and Sister and inform them to come to serpanchji's haveli in the morning to see the girl. Mohender also declared that Channi will stay at Mohan's house till this wedding is over and then a month later Gurvinder and Channi will get married along with Brij and Deepika with all the rituals and ceremonies. Now the only thing that was left was to inform his daughter about this but he knew his daughter will never object to anything she has always obeyed him. The only thing that worried him was how Geet will react in front of the ladies, the strangers, she has never interacted, never seen anyone except her parents and her brothers. He will have to explain her in detail how she is to act in front of the guests and how to interact with them''

"Sh-shaadi Baba'.. does that m-mmean Geet will have to g-go with p-pati?" Geet asked, her voice filled with dread at the prospect of leaving haveli. It was the only place she knew, and the only place she has seen. For years now she had heard her father and brothers threatening her of getting her married and sending her to a new haveli where the people would be not as kind as her father and brothers. She was filled with dread as her father talked about the new family she was to live with, to obey them and to care for them and their house the same way she has done for her own family since her birth.

"Yes, you will have to leave this haveli and go with your Pati, that haveli will be bigger than this, there will be many people, people who will become you family after this marriage. The grandmother and sister are coming tomorrow, Brij has gotten you a new dress, wear that and be sure to hide that mark from your face. Now go clean the whole house, I want to see everything clean" Mohender explained, feeling no remorse at seeing the bruise on her cheek.

"GO" Mohender screamed and pushed her out of his door seeing how she was standing still, tears falling from her eyes.

"AHHH" Geet screamed as she fell on the floor and her eyes grew wide as she heard the cracking of her bones. Just like this morning she had fallen on her left arm, she knew she had broken her arm if not from the agonizing pain then from the sound of her bones being crushed under the heavy vase that had fallen on her just as she hit the floor.

"Come here" Mohender called to his daughter in a stern voice.

Geet stood up with difficulty, biting her lip in an effort to not scream from the pain, she knew better then to run when her father called for her in that voice. She took the four steps towards her father, her body shaking at the prospect of what was going to come.

Mohender reached his hand out and stroked his daughter's face "Krishna" he whispered, his voice was quite. "day by day you are turning more like her"

Geet didn't need to ask who, just like his yelling's. She was used to this guilt filled regrets of her father. She was used to this side of her father, every time he would look at her with the deep longing and tell her how she looked just like mother. Geet gulped, as she saw her father close his eyes and inhale deeply, She stood still, holding her breath with her head down, she knew what was going through her father's head, she couldn't stop the shivers that were passing through her body, she knew what was coming next, it was the same way every time he talked of her.

Mohender opened his eyes and stared at his daughter's form, his eyes held nothing but hatred for the girl. She was just like her, the same eyes, the same innocent face that always made him feel guilty. He smacked her, his mind filled with feelings of hatred and guilt.

Geet kept her mouth and eyes tightly shut as she felt her head being smacked into the wall beside her. Her whole body screaming in the agonizing pain but she held her lips firmly closed, she knew better then to scream out in pain. She held her hand to the stinging cheek as she meekly looked up at her father , her eyes pleading him to let her go. But he wasn't done yet.

Mohender stepped towards her, holding her by her hair "Damn YOU and damn her for bringing you into this world, for stopping me from ending your LIFE" he screamed at her, it would have been so much better if his wife had not pleaded his father and him to let the girl live, to not kill her before others found out that a Handa had given birth to a daughter. He cursed that day when his father had given the oath to let the baby girl live but hidden away from the outside world.

"Damn YOU! Why do you have to look like her" Mohender screamed again, he hated to look at the girl, everything reminded him of his wife, the woman who stopped loving him after the girl was born, the woman who died protecting the girl.

"You look so much like her, but you are not HER" he roared at her, making Geet flinch back. "She hated you, you know that. She hated you for killing the baby. That's why she left you" he taunted her as he shook her by her hair. Geet shook her head in denial, no matter how many times she heard those words, no matter how truthful those words were but she could never believe them'. She would never believe those words.

"She died because of you, you not only killed the baby but you killed her too" Mohender screamed. "She hated you for that, she hated you because you were a bad girl. She left you because you were not a good girl, not a good daughter, I was not a good husband' I was not good enough'. not to her" Mohender murmured, finally letting go of Geet's hair, letting her fall on the floor, her back leaning support from the wall. She watched as her father stepped back in his room closing the door behind him...

It was with great difficulty and pain that Geet managed to clean the living room and the rest of the house. She had first gone to her room, applied one of the ointments she had made which helped in cleaning the bruises and easing the pain. Although there really was no need for cleaning the house as it was already cleaned by her in the morning but since Baba had insisted that guests were very important Geet decided to change the drapes of the windows and the entrance door, the cushions cover and the carpets. It took her double the time then it usually required because of her broken left arm, but the haveli was looking colorful unlike the dark look that it always gave. Geet sighed with content; the covers and drapes looked just perfect, she had worked so hard on them for the past month, applying colorful and creative embroidering and sewing piece by piece all with her own hands...

****************

"Stop with the praying already! It's not going to help in finding a girl. I swear you are starting to act like mother now" Naintara screamed at her grandmother. She was fed up with all the happenings lately, ever since that Sasha Sehal entered her brother's life. Naintara knew it from the first glance at Sasha that she was nothing but trouble, she knew all that innocence and helplessness was nothing but an act to gain sympathy and support of her brother. It was that realization that had made Naintara intent on getting Sasha out of her brother's life but all her schemes to get Sasha out ended up in getting Sasha more close to her brother. It was during one of these schemes she had set for Sasha when her grandmother had also seen the true face of Sasha, it was then that her grandmother had explained the need to have her brother married to a girl of their choice before Sasha trapped him in marriage with her''

The task of making her brother agree for getting married to the girl of her choice was not easy but his clear declaration that Sasha was just a close friend and nothing more gave hope to both Naintara and her grandmother. Thus began the process of making her brother agree for marriage, nothing seemed to work. Both Naintara and her grandmother tried from giving threats of leaving home, to faking a hunger strike but none of them worked until Naintara decided to make a compromise and told her brother that she was willing to withdraw her divorce case if he promised to marry a girl of her choice in two months. Naintara still had a hard time in accepting the fact that she made the promise to live her whole life as Dev's wife but it was worth it if it meant Sasha would be out of her brother's life.

"Now what should we do Naintara? All this is happening because of that Sasha, now I am sure she does black magic. See what she has done, first we were having troubling finding a suitable girl for your brother, then came the problem of getting the kundali matched and now when everything was going perfectly, the bride we chose ran away. Pata nahin ab hamare pote ka kya hoga" Savitri devi cried folding her hands and praying once again to god for her son's future.

"Dadima, Aap kab se in sab baton main vishwas karne lagi hain. Please stop, you know how I hate all these stupid superstitious believes. It's nothing like that. This is all because of you, if you hadn't insisted on getting him married to a girl from your home town then he would have been married to my friend's daughter Sneha by now" Naintara pointed out to her grandmother.

"I admit, it was my mistake I really shouldn't have forced this condition' I just wanted to be part of this town again, wanted to relive the old days through my grandson's wife. I am sorry Naintara. Hame aap ki baat manni chahiye thi" Savitri Devi apologized, regretting on her decision, if she hadn't forced Naintara for this then her grandson would have been already married.

Naintara grimaced listening to her grandmother's apology, feeling remorse for lashing out her angry at her grandmother. "dadima, please aap hamse maafi maange ye hame bilkul nahi pasand. You know that"

"What will happen now? should we call home and let them know about this ?" Savitri devi asked her granddaughter.

"No, abhi nahin Ma. Let's wait and see till tomorrow, If they can find a girl who comes from a wealthy family and sanskari then we will continue on with the marriage. It doesn't matter if some rituals are not done we can always do those after the marriage" Naintara answered her grandmother.

"You think it's possible for them to find a suitable girl for our family?" Savitri devi asked doubtfully.

Naintara smilled at her grandmother, held her hands and stared into her eyes as she confessed of what she had been feeling for the past few days. "dadima, have you ever felt like' like what you have been searching for is very close to you' that it will soon be with you?"

Savitri devi looked confused at her granddaughter's words, not understanding what she was speaking of.

"hame aisa lagta hain ki hame hamare Veere ke liye ladki yahin isse town main milegi' hame ek ehsaas bohut bechain kar raha hain, ek ehsaas jo hamse keh raha hain ki kuch hain, koi hain jise hamari zaroorat hain, jisse Veere ki zaroorat hain. Dadima, I feel like someone is calling to me'. I' I..f-feel like She is calling to me. I can sense her, I can feel her in this place' I feel like She is taking me towards my happiness' towards Veere's happiness"

Savitri Devi gasped at her grandaughter's words, not liking the dazed looked that had come over in her eyes. "Naintara?" she called out, worry etched in her voice as she stared at her granddaughter who seemed to have spaced out after her confession, who now was staring off into the sky, gazing at sparkling star with longing.

"Stop this insanity, Naintara! She is never coming back why can't you accept that fact!" Savitri cried with desperation trying to get her granddaughter out of her trance.

"hum jante hain dadima, I know" Naintara whispered wiping the tears that escaped from her eyes before she turned to face her grandmother, feeling remorseful for distressing her grandmother.

"Nainta-" Savitri's words were left midway by the sudden ringing of the phone. She sighed in relief to have been saved from having another painful discussion with her granddaughter.

"Haan, kaho ab kya problem hain" Naintara asked not bothering with the greeting.

"And hello to you too" was the sarcastic reply she received from the other end.

"Meera!" Naintara stressed only to hear that annoying laughter in answer.

"Really now, why such anger? And Di, how many times do I have to tell you it's Myra!" chirped the caller.

"Myra!" Naintara called the name more firmly, not in the mood to argue with her hyperactive sister-in-law.

"Hmm' now that is much better" Myra answered.

"Now will you please tell me why have you called me at this time?" Naintara asked in annoyance.

"erm'I can't find Abhi's science notebook' do you know where it is?" Myra asked a little too quickly.

"that should be on Abhishek's study table" Naintara replied, managing not to roll his eyes at the girl's obviousness.

"Ohh.. yah' how silly of me' didn't think to check there"

"Myra! Seriously why did you call?" Naintara asked, fully knowing the earlier reason was a completely lie. She knew Myra very well!

"Ohh' yah' that' well' you know' how I get this' urges' I mean' I was feeling this restlessness that seemed to indicate that you were very restless" Myra stammered her reason. "Di, is everything okay over there?"

Naintara sighed hearing the concerned filled voice of Myra. Not wanting to hide anything, she proceeded to explain the girl what had occurred since they arrived in town that morning. Myra displayed her shock by cursing the girl Channi and then trying to console Naintara by stating how it was good thing that the Channi ran away because she was not good for Veere! And thus began Myra's long list of negative things about why Channi was not good for Veere

Naintara felt relieved after her long talk with Myra' the girl knew how to divert her mind.

"Tara, why did you tell Myra not to inform anyone at home about what happened and the possible change in bride?" Savitridevi asked.

"Dadima, aap bhi na. We will dec''.." the ringing of her cell phone interrupted Naintara from completing her sentence. She answered the phone, her face brightened up with a smile as she listened to the caller, asking questions, inquiring about the family and their status. After having all her answers she ended the call promising to be at the Haveli early in the morning.

"Kaun tha Naintara? Mahendra ? have they found Channi?" Savitri Devi asked in desperation seeing the happiness in her granddaughter's face.

"Yes it was Mohan uncle, they did found Channi but the girl has gotten married to the serpanch's son's. Uncle said that the serpanch is very sorry for this ordeal his son has caused and he wants to rectify this injustice done to us by giving his daughter to us. Uncle said that he will come and take us to the serpanch's haveli tomorrow morning to see his daughter." Naintara explained her grandmother with excitement. She didn't know why but this news seemed to excite her, it gave her a sense that they will find what they have been looking for the past two months. Hearing the girl's name had filled her with hope and relief, somehow she knew this girl will solve all the problems that have surrounded her and her whole family. Somehow Naintara knew that this girl is the one she had been looking for her brother. She smiled when her grandmother voiced out the same feelings, and then laughed at the situation; here they were sighing in relief and smiling when they had not yet seen the girl. Naintara gave a silent pray to god to make all the assumptions she is having of this Geet true, she prayed to god to give some indication if this Geet was the one for her brother'...
