A Twisted Tale Part 5

Raghav had been discharged from the hospital but was still on complete bed rest. Without Raghav it was difficult for Sammy to handle all the meetings with their clients all alone so he asked Kalpi to help him. But Kalpi was reluctant about it.

Sammy: You have to do it,,, coz u r the only hope i have right now.

Kalpi: No I can't.

Sammy: (pouting) but why Kalpi.. you have all the qualifications and potential to do it then y r u not ready

Kalpi: (snapped at him) because I'm not sure if I should it.. I'm not sure how Raghav will take this.. what if I messed up, he will never forgive me for ruining his company's reputation.

Sammy knew now he has no other way but to emotionally blackmail her

Sammy: Comapany's reputation is still at the stake. This contract is so important for Raghav do u want him to lose it to that good for nothing Prem. (he could see the change in her expressions) It's working, he murmured smilingly.

Kalpi; Did u say something?

Sammy: Yes, i did. Kalpi we have no choice, you have no choice, but to attend this meeting. I and Soham, the project manager, will help u with this.

Kalpi: But why can't you do it yourself?

Sammy: I have to be with Raghav also & won't be able to give my full attention to the project. Above that we have very less time And are the only person we can rely on. So tell me will u do it, for me for this company and for Raghav.

Sammy knew his trick worked as Kalpi was convinced now

Kalpi: Ok fine but u have to promise me you won't tell about me presenting the project to the clients.

Sammy: ok I promise. Thank u so much.

Kalpi: Since we have less time I should start working on it right away. By the way when is the meeting?

Sammy was about to leave but turned back to reply

Sammy: ummm tomorrow

Kalpi: (shocked) you have got to be kidding me...

Sammy: good luck n good byeee (waving hands bakways)

Kalpi slumped into her chair and cursed herself for becoming an emotional fool.

Next day Meeting venue

The meeting went well. With amusing expressions on the clients face Kalpi knew that she was brilliant and she got that project for company. In few days Raghav would sign the contrct papers with LKM enterprises. After the meeting Sammy, soham and her were talking about firther proceedings when that snobbish Prem Kapoor intrupped them. He started humiliating Kalpi before everyone.

Prem: Do you think you Kalpi Jadav, a nanny's daughter can beat me? huh you have to pay for this i'll show you your real position.. what do u think you are, you are nothing but a charity case' an... chatttakkk

Before he could speak more he got a tight slap on his face...

Kalpi: (angrily) One more word and you will regret your birth... lets go Sammy.

With these words they walked out of the corridor, sat in the car and headed towards Raghav's place.

Sammy: wooohooo where did that come from?

Kalpi: (Angriliy) you don't know? I can show u a sample though.

Sammy: na na meri maa shant ho ja. Btw that was awesome... kya band bajai Prem Kapoor ki (he chuckled).

Kalpi: We are done with this topic (in commanding tone)!!

Sammy could not utter a word more than Okay".

Few minutes later

Sammy: Thank god Pakhi is not like her brother.

Kalpi: (slowly) hmmm

Sammy: what's the deal between you and Pakhi. Why do you hate her?

Kalpi: I don't hate her. It's just that we are not friends. Her only problem is that sometimes she beahaves selfish, something she must have inherited from her mother. But otherwise she is nice girl (looks at Sammy and smiles)

Sammy: thought so... what about Raghav???

Kalpi: He is so hot headed. I think maximum girls in our office only bear him because he is so handsome.

Sammy laughed hearing this.

Raghav's home

Sammy and Kalpi reached Singhania Mansion and saw Raghav going through some files.

Sammy: Doctor told you to take rest.

Raghav: That is what I'm doing. Btw what happened in the meeting?

Sammy: Good news is that we got the deal.

Raghav: That is great. Who presented the idea before clients?

Kalpi: (hesitatingly) Sammy did.

Raghav knew she was hiding something as she was not making eye contact with him.

Raghav: great job yaar... it was a very important deal for our company. You have learnt many things from me (laughs)

Kalpi's POV: I don't like hiding things from Raghav but he is still recovering and I don't thing it would be a wise thing to tell him about Prem.

Raghav noticed Kalpi's absent mindedness.

Raghav: Any problem Kalpi??

Kalpi: nothing,,,, just a little tired. I should go home. You take care of urself. Bye

Raghav & Sammy: Byeee

After Kalpi left from there, Raghav asked Sammy whether he got any info about the truck driver.

Sammy: I have something very important to tell you. That truck driver is still at large. Police are still trying to trace him. But as per the sources, he is a contract killer. So we can say that your suspicion about that accident wasn't wrong. It was pre-planned. Someone was trying to kill you Raghav.

Raghav: Not me but Kalpi. Kalpi was his target... I need to find out who this person is. I'll break his neck with my bare hands (angrily). We need to be very careful from now. Kalpi's life is still in danger (worriedly).

Sammy: Don't worry, she will be fine.. Waise if care so much about her than u should show it to her.

Raghav: You know it's not like that.. alright?

Sammy: yeah yeah... yeah (leaves)

Raghav: She is so hot headed.

Sammy could not control his laugh after this.

Raghav: what happened??? Have you gone nuts?

Sammy: Kalpi said that same thing about you. You guys are so stupid!!!!

Saying this he left. Raghav was still thinking about what he had said.

Next day/Kalpi's home

Kalpi was getting ready for the office...She was wearing a deep red stretch halter top and black trouser...

While she was brushing her hair...her cellphone started ringing...

Kalpi: haan Sammy...whats up?

Sammy: Tumne...aaj ka newspaper dekha??

Kalpi: nahin...I woke up a little late today...isliye newspaper dekhne ka time nahin mila...kyun kuch khaas news hai kya?...

Sammy: (sounding worried)...look at the front page news...

Kalpi looked at the newspaper and was stunned...

The newspaper had described in detail every aspect of fiasco between Prem Kapoor and her...along with them getting the contract of project...

Kalpi: (getting really angry) Sammy...I will call you back...ok?

She hung up the phone and headed towards Singhania Mansion...all the while praying that Raghav hadn't read the newspaper yet...

As soon as Kalpi reached Raghav's home she saw Sammy coming out...

Sammy: I wouldn't go inside if I were you...He is really angry right now...

Kalpi: Well... (taking a deep breath) I have to face him sooner or later...better get it over with now...

She went inside...

Kalpi: (holding her breath) Hey...

Raghav: Oh...hey Kalpana...how are you?...and what are you doing here?...shouldn't you be at the office right now?...
(Before Kalpi could respond...Raghav cut her short...)
Oh...wait...(sarcastically) don't bother answering that...I am pretty sure I will get to know the answers from the newspapers tomorrow...

Kalpi winced ...a little hurt by Raghav's caustic remarks... She had no idea how bad it was gonna get... Raghav was very angry as Kalpi didn't tell him about her spat with Prem Kapoor. How can Prem stoop so low. Though he was happy that Kalpi slapped him was also worried at the same time. Prem can do anything.

Raghav: When were you planning to tell me about this Kalpana?... (He only uses her full name when he is angry at her)

hold on a sec...let me rephrase that question...Were you even planning to tell me about this...at all? (referring towards the newspaper)

Kalpi: Raghav...It's just that...I was not sure how you would react...and I...

Raghav: What the hell is that supposed to mean?... Now you are gonna tell me things only if you are sure of how I am gonna react?...

Kalpi: (beginning to lose her temper )...Would you give me a chance to explain??...You think I wanted to hide these things from you??...

...I still remember the way you had treated me in Pune... you told me to solve my problems of my own. I was just following that direction... and I handled it well.

I could handle Any one not believing in me...but I was not sure if I could handle it...if you were gonna react the same way...

Raghav: Pune thing?...Kapli...things have changed a lot since then...haven't they?...and still you couldn't trust me enough to tell me about this?... I thought we have reached a level where we could trust each other...be frank with each other...(looking at Kalpi...after a pause)... but I guess I was wrong...

Kalpi: (really hurt)...(bitterly) thanks a lot...Sirrr...I thought you would understand why I did this...but I was wrong... well...you are not the only one who is disappointed (sarcastically) ...

for whatever its worth...I am truly sorry...sorry that you had come to know about this through the newspapers and not through me...

I didn't want to give you any trouble...and this seemed like a good enough reason to me at that time...that's why I didn't tell you...

you know what my problem is Raghav?...I care a little too much about you...maybe I shouldn't...coz you obviously don't give a damn about mine...

She stopped at the door and turned towards Raghav...

Kalpi: Raghav...you were saying something about trust and frankness among us...werent you?... well...you forgot to mention 'understanding'... saying this Kalpi stormed out of the room...

Raghav: kept looking at the door for a long time...hoping for her to come back...but she didn't...

After some time Sammy came into the room...

Sammy: (looking around) Raghav...Kalpi kahan hai?

Raghav: (sounding a little dejected) She left...

Sammy: (hesitating) Raghav...I just hope you didn't say anything that you would regret later...

Raghav: too late yaar...I am already regretting every single word I said...
