Reshama, hope this is not an off-topic question - I'm genuinely curious.

Vrish the Durga Maa who comes to our house, the daughter of the house who was away for one long year in kailash and who adorns us with her children and her husband is none other than Parvati. The puja scriptures follow the tantra route and devi saptasati, but the main reason why durgapuja is so beloved is because of the story of parvati and mata annapurna and her coming home to her parents. So more or less the social face of Durgapuja is Parvaati maa. other than that, i don't know anyone who worships just Parvati.

On topic, Isn't this a very personal question.??

I don't even remember when i started doing puja, when our manthadeeksha happened. Its been like breathing to me.

Our family is mostly a shakta family, worshipper of Durga/ kali, we have a temple at my dad's mamabari😆, but we were brought up respecting everyone.
We celebrate gopal's happy birthday to worship krishna on dolyatra( Holi) and rathayatra.
Its no big deal, when i see one, i see them as same, God or Goddess. But yes, worshipping or visiting the temple of Durga or Kali gives me a special feeling.
Oh and i love benaras. I have lost the count how many times i have been there.

Tan

I know that Durga Ma is Parvati, but there are differences. Durga & Kali are 2 manifestations of Parvati - and nowhere is it made clearer than after the beheading of Ganesh. Just like Mahadev invoked Veerbhadra & Bhadrakali to punish Daksha for Sati's death, similarly Parvati invoked Durga and Mahakali to punish everybody who sided w/ Shiva in getting Ganesh killed. (Ref the ACK Ganesh)

Similarly, the story of Durga & Mahishashur Mardini, or Chandi vs Raktabheej, or the other demons (I forget their names - am sure Andhaka was one) were all involving Ma Durga - Parvati never took on a warrior role, but always delegated it to either Durga or Kali.

From the above responses, looks like the Gujratis, Marathas and Konkanis do worship Parvati, either along w/ Mahadev, or as a part of Ganesh Chaturthi.

I know its hard to believe but i can be serious too

Great question '.Eshwar is important in every one's life, the Word itself nullifies all the fears in every human heart.

I agree with u dear ..god give us strenght ..in good and bad times..

I still remember ,what my father and mother told ,when I was just 4 while entering into our famous Meenakshi amman temple that, She (Goddess) is the Mother of all those who have born and for those who are going to be born ,And He is our eternal father ''.(they are green memories ,where I tried my best level to climb up a grill to have a darshan of her full face .)

My eyes widened when they showed the Deeparthna before her, in fear I shouted that the fire may hurt her '

The priest smiled at my agony and answered me that fire is just her slave, so dont fear.

there I realized God is much more than humans '.

Owh what a cute story dear..u are really blessed that uve been at the Meenaskshi amman temple..hope that i can visit it too..someday..

My journey along with spiritual preaching from my elders, always leaves a magnificent image for Lord Shiv , he is too close to any one's heart ,by just hearing his name itself ..In North India Shiv is a complete Yogi ,where he seems to be in still and sterile composure most of the time ,Whereas in South ,notably in Madurai ,he is too Mischievous to handle .So I can share one of his story here .

What are u tellin me.. heis too mischievous to handle 😲.. i would love to hear more story's but i will read this one of Jata with his machismo styly =]😆

Remember Our Jata in DkDmd , Somasunder (Name of Shiv in our temple), is no less than him, full of energy and flamboyant Tactics .When u start reading about his Divine Leelas (Thiruvilaiyadal purana),Even Lord Krishna will fade out. Once There occurs a clash between a Sanskrit singer or Pandit with the King of Madurai .The pandit challenges the king ,If no one from Pandiyan kingdom able to pull down his skills ,then he should accept the defeat by placing his throne under his foot .So King called for every singer to took part in it , But all denied it in fear .The king ordered Paanan a devotional singer to took part in it He stumbles and cried before Lord somasundra .Out of his knowledge lord appeared in the form of Jata (a wood sticks seller ,but vibrant and beautiful )and roamed in all the streets of Madurai to sell it . Each and every lady spellbound by his appearance and asked his whereabouts .Jata answered them that he is coming from world largest mountain ,but wife's native is ,this city ,so I have decided to stay here forever ''.So ladies asked about the wooden sticks ,He said the price "10 gold coins" '.they all pouted .What ?10 gold coins ,then tell me the specialty of ur Sticks .He answered that ,If u ignite one stick from my collections it will give the aroma of all the followers and may last upto several days .They never believed this and called him traitor .Later to sell the sticks ,he began to sing a song about its features ,in between the songs he quoted the human's heart exactly whoever before him . With a suspicious mind state people retried to their home. But Jata reached the exact home ,where the Sanskrit pandit resides.

After a while ,he began to sing a beautiful song stating that he is the creator and director of this universe and no human can surplus anything out of his knowledge .The Pandit came out of his guest house in a mesmerized state and asked him who is he ?.Jata answered that ,he is a poor chopper by fate .Pandit asked him then how can u sing like this .Jata answered him , When I was a child my mom admitted me under a Pandit called Paanan (devotional singer) , My guru tried his best level to teach the music to me ,But to my playfulness and dull brain ,I cant grasp any thing. Finally in anger my guru threw me out of his School . So I am half boiled in Music literature ..and became a Wood chopper .When ever I feel tried ,I will recite the song which is known to me .The pandit Frightened about ,a crazy fellow can sing a song like this ,how can I face his Guru In the court ..No way I have to vacate the city tonight itself. Hence The pandit handover a Palm leaf to Jata containing his apologies to the king and the great poet singer Paanan ,for insulting them unknowingly .He further states that all his wisdom and pride are nothing before Poet Paanan.

Thus Jata reached Paanan's house and informed him about the Sanskrit pandit 's departure .when Paanan ,questions who is he ,he disappears inside the temple .With tears rolling down the king and people praised lord Somasundra .

Like that many stories are sprinkling around every little space in India .

Purely

I believe one must be blessed to have the chance to cherish with Hinduism and it deities . I am fully enjoying every aspect of it .

Jai Shiva Shambhu!

Thank u so much for this story..do u have more story's of Jataa??

thanks dear for ur lovely post 👍🏼

this is great topic

here is my connection with Lord Shiva.

i come from the North western part of Andhra Pradesh which is near Karnataka Border and is about 100 kms from Hyderabad. all this part of the country is Shiva land.

you'll find just Shiva temples here, temples of other deities are few and far between.almost 30 to 40 percent of the people in this area are named after Lord Shiva and Mata parvathi. so naturally my family have been staunch shaivates. In line with the family tradition i have been shiv bhakt from child hood.

i am a follower of advaitha vedantha of adi shankaracharya and as a saguna brahman i worship Lord Shiva and Mata Parvathi in their ardhanareeshwar form. skanda and ganesha are also my favorite gods.

Lord shiva has been part and parcel of my life since my childhood. he is my support in my difficult and needy times. He miraculously transforms my life whenever i feel everything is lost.

i left all my major decisions in my life to him and all of them have turned out to be very positive.
i feel all my actions reactions are directed by him.

simply put he is always with me in my life like a friend philosopher and guide.

Regards
Krishna

I am tamil and I grew up in Madras near the famous Kapaleeshwar temple in Mylapore.

My family would go often and we often performed various ceremonies and rituals there. As a child I used to think it was a chore to have to go, but over the years I have come to love the temple and it's surroundings. I can't even really explain why (maybe it has something to so with childhood memories), but this is my favorite temple.

Although I don't live in Madras anymore, every time I visit, I make it a point to go to this wonderful temple and spend some time there.

😊
