Reshu – U in serious tone …😆…….cant believe it .

Great question ….Eshwar is important in every one's life, the Word itself nullifies all the fears in every human heart.

I still remember ,what my father and mother told ,when I was just 4 while entering into our famous Meenakshi amman temple that, She (Goddess) is the Mother of all those who have born and for those who are going to be born ,And He is our eternal father …….(they are green memories ,where I tried my best level to climb up a grill to have a darshan of her full face .)

My eyes widened when they showed the Deeparthna before her, in fear I shouted that the fire may hurt her …

The priest smiled at my agony and answered me that fire is just her slave, so dont fear.

there I realized God is much more than humans ….

My journey along with spiritual preaching from my elders, always leaves a magnificent image for Lord Shiv , he is too close to any one's heart ,by just hearing his name itself ..In North India Shiv is a complete Yogi ,where he seems to be in still and sterile composure most of the time ,Whereas in South ,notably in Madurai ,he is too Mischievous to handle .So I can share one of his story here .

Remember Our Jata in DkDmd , Somasunder (Name of Shiv in our temple), is no less than him, full of energy and flamboyant Tactics .When u start reading about his Divine Leelas (Thiruvilaiyadal purana),Even Lord Krishna will fade out. Once There occurs a clash between a Sanskrit singer or Pandit with the King of Madurai .The pandit challenges the king ,If no one from Pandiyan kingdom able to pull down his skills ,then he should accept the defeat by placing his throne under his foot .So King called for every singer to took part in it , But all denied it in fear .The king ordered Paanan a devotional singer to took part in it He stumbles and cried before Lord somasundra .Out of his knowledge lord appeared in the form of Jata (a wood sticks seller ,but vibrant and beautiful )and roamed in all the streets of Madurai to sell it . Each and every lady spellbound by his appearance and asked his whereabouts .Jata answered them that he is coming from world largest mountain ,but wife's native is ,this city ,so I have decided to stay here forever …….So ladies asked about the wooden sticks ,He said the price "10 gold coins" ….they all pouted .What ?10 gold coins ,then tell me the specialty of ur Sticks .He answered that ,If u ignite one stick from my collections it will give the aroma of all the followers and may last upto several days .They never believed this and called him traitor .Later to sell the sticks ,he began to sing a song about its features ,in between the songs he quoted the human's heart exactly whoever before him . With a suspicious mind state people retried to their home. But Jata reached the exact home ,where the Sanskrit pandit resides.

After a while ,he began to sing a beautiful song stating that he is the creator and director of this universe and no human can surplus anything out of his knowledge .The Pandit came out of his guest house in a mesmerized state and asked him who is he ?.Jata answered that ,he is a poor chopper by fate .Pandit asked him then how can u sing like this .Jata answered him , When I was a child my mom admitted me under a Pandit called Paanan (devotional singer) , My guru tried his best level to teach the music to me ,But to my playfulness and dull brain ,I cant grasp any thing. Finally in anger my guru threw me out of his School . So I am half boiled in Music literature ..and became a Wood chopper .When ever I feel tried ,I will recite the song which is known to me .The pandit Frightened about ,a crazy fellow can sing a song like this ,how can I face his Guru In the court ..No way I have to vacate the city tonight itself. Hence The pandit handover a Palm leaf to Jata containing his apologies to the king and the great poet singer Paanan ,for insulting them unknowingly .He further states that all his wisdom and pride are nothing before Poet Paanan.

Thus Jata reached Paanan's house and informed him about the Sanskrit pandit 's departure .when Paanan ,questions who is he ,he disappears inside the temple .With tears rolling down the king and people praised lord Somasundra .

Like that many stories are sprinkling around every little space in India .

Purely

I believe one must be blessed to have the chance to cherish with Hinduism and it deities . I am fully enjoying every aspect of it .

Jai Shiva Shambhu!

During any of the pujas, like Durga Puja (which is #1 for me), I'm pretty serious about observance, and same for any other religious occasions. But aside from that, rest of the year, I'm more or less agnostic. That may sound strange coming from someone who's very interested in mythos, but honestly, religion doesn't dominate my life except for such sacred occasions.

One thing - I know that Ma Durga is the principle deity of Bongs, but one thing I was curious about - are there any group of people who simply worship Parvati herself, not as in her variations of Durga or Mahakali or Chandi or any of those, but simply as Parvati?

Reshama, hope this is not an off-topic question - I'm genuinely curious.

no problem Vrish.. i want to know this answer too.. When i pray i see Durga maa as the wife of shivji and when i pray to Shivji i see parvati as durga maa ..so for me there is no difference..For me they are my mother and father and i worship them both..but my istadevi is durga maa ..she respresents the female power engery and mother.

@Vrish-In Konkanis like myself we worship Parvati-during Ganesh Chaturthi, one day before it actually we have Gauri Poojan where we worship her in the form of a silver mask placed on a Coconut, this Pooja is done even before Ganapatis and Shankars Pooja-we give her food-as in generally its some sweet of coconut and jaggery and lots of green vegetables since she likes them and we serve it on a Banana leaf,we put her bangels,a magalsutra, give her Kumkum and drape her in a red saree peice
we dress up a number of coconuts with haldi kumkum and distribute them amongst married women during the festival along with bangels and supari...
i guess they have this custom amongst Maharastrian too...

Reason I asked is that in Bengal, we have Durga Puja, which as everyone knows is the biggest festival here, eclipsing even Diwali, and a week after that, we have Lakshmi Puja. Diwali is also observed as Kali Puja, while in Jan-Feb, there is Saraswati Puja. Since Durga & Kali both have dedicated puja occasions but Parvati doesn't seem to, I was curious about whether she is worshipped as in that form itself.

Shruti, thanks for that insight! 😊
