You have no problem with what Sharad Yadav barked? He even gesticulated with hands, discussing about women's bodies! Whole country is shamed by his sexist and vulgar comments. But you think it's okay?

Don't be this fuzzy in your government worship. Nationalism doesn't mean endorsing whatever our politicians say or do.

You probably don't see comment sections online. Most Indian men call rape cases fake or blame women and blame media for reporting such crimes. Most NOT ALL.

You have same problem as the ones who banned the docu.

Where did I generalise all men? Nowhere! I am only talking about a pervasive mentality!

What PR?

So PR and image are more important than real issues? Good! 👏

What do you mean then? Lap up BBC docu on IITs but ban one on rape? Huh? Why even lap up docu on success if one has this much frustration at foreigners?

We only like praise please don't give us criticism! Manoj Kumar films type nationalism.

Sorry I can't debate with a person who unconditionally accepts what government does or politicians say. Before thrrads get locked, I would refrain from further engaging with a hardliner.

Some people like dark masala and they will support it no matter how cruel they are by calling its reality of life.

This is not for masala but to expose mentality, understand causes and face truth.

Rapists abd criminals are not monsters. But come from society only. They are humans with warped mindset.

They act the way they do because of popular mindset.

Yes our society blames victim or lets it be, accepting it as fate. The men raped because they felt they had the right to do it or they wouldn't be caught. They were not educated. Unchecked drug and alcohol abuse worsened them further.

And some educated ones too are sexist, cheap and vulgar.

When I talk of our society, I mean everyone in the world. Javed saab was right when he said this documentary would force one to introspect and feel ashamed if their thoughts align with those of rapists.

Who says there are no programs on self defense? NDTV showed a series where women were taught basic self defense and safety. Other channels have shown how even religious places such as gurudwaras are giving training in self defense to girls. There are men who are running campaigns to educate men on preventing violence, gender training programs started at workplaces...many such efforts are on and are shown on TV and covered in newspapers. Your selective attention doesn't mean "positive" coverage doesn't exist.

If you didn't know, Sharad Yadav is not even part of ruling government, at least get your basics right before criticising me. And as I said, the issue he raised about fair skin being preferred in a country of majority dark skin, is a very common one and even women have spoken against it. It has become a trend nowadays among so called feminists to slam anything and everything that a man does or says.

You probably don't see comment sections online. Most Indian men call rape cases fake or blame women and blame media for reporting such crimes. Most NOT ALL.

Maybe you should realise that online comments sections are full of trolls. If I were you, I will take online comments with a big pinch of salt.

Lol. You deny generalising and you use the word 'pervasive mentality' in the same statement. Do you even know the meaning of pervasive or you used it because it sounded nice?

What PR?

So PR and image are more important than real issues? Good! 👏

This is not a game where you have rules like I can either choose PR or choose real issues. In a real world things do not work like 'either or', everything has certain importance and there is a need to maintain a balance in all that.

What do you mean then? Lap up BBC docu on IITs but ban one on rape? Huh? Why even lap up docu on success if one has this much frustration at foreigners?

If I praise your debating skill, will you press the report button?
If I abuse you, will you press the report button?
If I had praised your debating skill and then go on to abuse you, will you refrain from pressing the report button?

Look,a debate can't really happen if one side keeps telling the other that they are blind to whatever the government does.In short:- don't be judgemental.(this applies to both the sides).
The Debate is bound to become an argument if anyone becomes judgemental.
And just back out when things start going haywire..really..and comeback when things get fine.
No body is going to gain anything by being aggressive.
Sorry to have posted this, but I am not feeling OK with what's going on here.

Looks like we are back to the same circle where opposing the documentary and Hedwin basically equates to being blind, not supporting the issue, having a rapist mentality, pseudo nationalists, etc etc etc 😆 Sweet, let's rinse and repeat now 😆

If you go back you will know who talked of traitors.

It's not worth it.

And yes if someone defends even crass comment of a politician then I have nothing to say.

I said what I say applies to both the sides.Am not really following the discussion because of what I felt like.
I don't see why should that post of mine offend anyone.
I haven't heard or read anything about that politician yet,so that's my ignorance and I cannot comment about it.
And please,I don't really need that sarcastic 'Ji' after my name.
It's OK to be angry occasionally, but I am feeling this way seeing all the long posts since the last few pages..I certainly don't deserve sarcastic replies.
I don't know what else could I say ..it's up to you people. Sorry if even saying this hurts. Can't help more than giving a gentle reminder to people.
TC.

Nun, 70, raped during robbery in India, official says

By Harmeet Shah Singh and Ralph Ellis, CNN

Updated 5:00 AM ET, Sun March 15, 2015

New Delhi (CNN)A gang of robbers struck a Christian school in eastern India on Saturday, and one of them raped a 70-year-old nun, a senior official said.

The man apparently did so, because she resisted the robbers, said P.B. Salim, chief administrator of the West Bengal state's Nadia district.

Previously, a church official had told CNN sister broadcaster CNN-IBN that three or four of the men had raped the woman.

A group of seven to eight men allegedly barged into the school and its attached staff residence during pre-dawn hours, and the elderly Sister Superior raised an alarm and resisted, Salim said. The rape was apparently punishment for it.

Later, the men tied her up along with two other nuns and the building guard. The robbers then made off with cash worth a few hundred thousand rupees (thousands of dollars), laptops and other articles, Salim said.

The attacked nun is under medical care. "Physically, she is better. But the mental trauma will take its own time to heal," Salim said.

'Shameful act'

"It is a very, very shameful act, first of all, to rape any woman, any female," Father Dominic Emmanuel of the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese said in televised comments. "But this one becomes even worse because, first of all, she is an old lady and then on top of it, she is a nun. She is a religious [and] has consecrated her life to God and all her life she has remained a virgin."

A series of rape cases involving girls, foreign tourists and a physiology student who died following a brutal gang rape in 2012 has hurt India's international reputation. Crowds have taken to Indian streets to protest against rape.

Indian Bollywood stars take part in a protest march against the gang-rape of a female photographer in Mumbai on August 25, 2013.

The nation's lawmakers introduced tougher laws and punishments for sexual crimes and harassment. Despite such action, India continues to see episodes of sexual violence.

Past high-profile rapes

For instance, five men were arrested in Kolkata in January and charged with raping a Japanese tourist. Police said the men operated as a gang and targeted single, Japanese tourists. In December, an Uber driver was charged with sexually assaulting a passenger.

The incident that grabbed the world's attention was the rape of a woman by five men on a bus in 2012. She later died of her injuries.

Anti-rape activists complained when the Indian government restricted the showing of a BBC documentary about rape that included comments from one of those men. He provoked outrage around the world by blaming the victim and saying the woman "should just be silent and allow the rape."

Official data in India show that rape cases have jumped almost 875% over the past 40 years -- from 2,487 in 1971 to 24,206 in 2011. But campaigners say sexual assaults are underreported because of stigma and cultural factors.

Experts say the causes of the high number of rapes include the nation's patriarchy, widespread poverty and lack of law enforcement in rural areas.
