CHANDRA'S NANDHINI
Chapter VII
Chandra gave her Bhavan, with out uttering a word..Nandini started pouring kisses on Bhavan and embraced him tightly and tears rolled down her cheeks. Chandra looked at the scene with unbelievable surprise and asked the maid to take the kid to Chaya
When the maid was gone, he slowly asked her
"for whom are those kisses, Nandini
" Chandra, you won't understand this
With that, she went in search of Ram
Mallika could not tolerate the above scene..Nandini handling Bhavan..she has tried to hold him many times, but the kid refused her vehemently
She felt frustrated and annoyed to witness the above. Mallika could not believe the reason for this favouritism
"she seems to be a golden lady from the beginning "
It was very maddening, she immediately invited her father to complete the marriage talks with Chandra's family, but Mounika Devi is on pilgrimage, she couldn't do any thing on the matter
Meantime in 305, the lodger Manoj,the newly married man, wanted to present his wife with some antique designed bangles.
He enquired about this with Mallika..She instantly absorbed the situation ,she could fight for her own idea to any extent... readily called Nandini ,and commanded her to accompany him .She tried to refuse and Mallika started to abuse her in swear words. These patterns clearly reflected their cultural differences
So she accompanied him for his shopping venture. Manoj had a BMW black car. She got in the back seat and Mallika dutifully pointed out that scene to Chandra
" Chandra, that customer was asking for direction for the antique jewellery shop, Nandini readily volunteered to help him. I thought of sending some male servant with him , but before that, she got in to the car."
Chandra knew, that Nandini was new to that place and knew no antique jewellery shop.
But he waited patiently.
In the shopping multiplex complex, it is not hard to find an antique jewellery shop.They had wide range of unique jewellary designs in diamonds, pearls, corals, jades etc. Nandini was quite artistic and selected a pair of diamond studded bangles for his wife.
Suddenly Manoj thrust a packet in her hands
" madam, thank you so much..plz accept this small gift from me..just a saree
Nandini, immediately thought of Chandra
" No sir..plz..take it back..my husband won't like it
He presumed her to be an ordinary employee of the hotel
" what is there,..madam..your husband won't say anything against it..come..I will talk to him
She decided to give that saree to Rani and returned to hotel.
When she got down from the car with the parcel, Chandra witnessed the scene from his window and retreated to his work
Mallika seeing her gloated " Hi Nandini, what is that gift..daily you can have such rides, I will arrange for you
" No thanks madam, Rani was mopping the floor, she called her Rani have this beautiful saree, it will be nice on you
Rani with all her teeth got the saree from her
Mallika, " you poor egoistical menial, you threw away the gift just like that. What an insolence to that customer,.I will show you my true colors
At 7o clock, Nandini brought dinner to Chandra.
Chandra was at his working table, called her " hi Nandini..wait..plz serve me the dinner
Suddenly he looked up, some uneasiness prevailed in her, but she remained standing there.
He started to take his dinner and said " why are you standing there, come and sit beside me,...you can earn more..rather by sweeping the floors..by the way ..what is your rate
He felt some ringing in his ears and understood that she had slapped him
" Mr Chandra Patel, how dare you to speak me like this...I cannot tolerate this insolence any more..I am leaving this place at any cost
His constant turmoil is constantly impacting his life and relationship and impairing his fair senses
He is in a form of denial, so much had happened in his life
Chandrara,knew..he was torturing her and as well as himself.
He came near her and holding her, said " sorry..sorry..plz excuse me..I should not have used those words..plz
"when I saw you with that customer in that car, I lost all my good senses..plz for give me and tried to console by caressing her face. But she pushed away his hands and ran to her room and cried her heart out.
" how dare you..Chandra..I am safeguarding my chastity all these years , for you alone..and you got married and enjoyed a family life and got a child too...I have no relations, down and out beggar, I am an orphan .ill fated woman..an outcast..
In the evening Chaya met her in the garden and invited her to her cottage Nandini readily accepted in the hope of seeing Bhavan. Chaya was a down to earth person
Shravan running there, got hold of Nandini's hands hi, Nandini aunty..come..i will show my helicopter and meantime, Bhavan hopped upon Nandini.
" Nandini..on that day..I know what happened..this Mallika..
"leave it madam, you are alone in the cottage with the children
"yes..but Chandra comes here often and two maids are there to help..amma will return with in 10 days
"do you know Chandra before..you seem to be a graduate..why this menial job
" no madam..I don' know anything about chairman prior..what to do..there is no vacancy to suit my education..I am a post graduate in IT..
"plz call me chaya..I will speak to Chandra about you
"Plz mam, it will be helpful, my debts will be repayed sooner
" what depts.?
Nandini was very brief in her descriptions and
Chaya listened to all carefully (but volunteered nothing)and treated her with strong tea and biscuits
There after, when ever she found time , came to cottage and spent time with Bhavan and Shravan
Mallika's complaints were in vain.
Finally on fifth day Gangathar came there and opened the topic of marriage with Chandra.Nandini was called to serve tea and snacks to them and Mallika tried to sit beside Chandra, but he placed a file sort of thing there and she has to sit in another sofa
" Chandra..it has been so long..why postponing the marriage ..shall I talk to your mother "
"Uncle..I have some matters to settle down..plz give me some time..Bhavan is there
Mallika cleverly intervened
" why Chandra we can appoint proper governess to look after him..see this girl Nandini can also be appointed. Nandini after our marriage will you come with us to look after Bhavan
Chandra thought " I need a real mother to my son, not a governess
When she came to clear the plates, Chandra stopped her
Oh my God..what a waste of life..if I marry Mallika..i will regain my lost happiness..what do you say lady,do you have any objection
"why sir, I am just a maid, how can I give any objection..you can marry any number of times you like..you rich, handsome and what not
" so you have no objection
"what question you are asking..can a mere toilet cleaner give her opinion?
" it was your fault, you discarded me like a waste paper and married that 2 lack person
She was shouting now
" what do you think..yes I married that Singapore IT professional, and I say it is none of your business
" are you a woman..you are a disgrace to all womanhood ..we spent the nights together..you were with me as my wife
" all are old stories..I don't remember any of the things you mentioned.
" get out of the place now..here after don't come in front of me
There are nobody to notice her tears, sadness and pain
Nandini was in intense mental agony and wanted to get over these torture and wanted to run to the end of the world.
"Chandra is going to marry again. She can't even see Bhavan here after
She chided herself
You fool ..in what line you are thinking..Chandra has completely changed..he is a different person now..somhow or other I have to vacate the place decently and officially.
In evening Chaya and Nandini were in the garden, Nandini holding Bhavan and Shravan catching butter flies here and there
" Chaya, our chairman is going to marry Mallika..when will it be
" No nandini, Chandra has no interest in marrying Mallika..even by mother's compulsion he married Durga..he loved a girl..what happened ..we don't know..he was not himself for a number of days..no body could console him..he was in a devastating position..it took about 2 months for him to come out of his bad memories. Then suddenly, one morning accepted to marry Durga, but afterwards, he was quite a good husband
She showed some of the wedding photos from the PC system
Nandini could not control herself, and asked when will be the arrangements possibly
" mom will be here by 10 days..then they will decide the dates..all depend on mom's arrival"
Next morning, while serving breakfast, she asked him
when your mother comes, your marriage will be fixed, can't you send me out from this hell
" did you say hell..madam you haven't seen the hell so far
Chandra continued,
" again I ask you, why did you cheat me..was I not enough for you..still the thoughts kill me like hell..tell me. He suddenly hugging her begged,
plz Nandini,tell me, why you dumped me
" Chandra..no use of talking about the past..I am a married woman
" damn it..whom did you marry..where is he now..have you ditched him or he..tell me
" No sir..no use..plz think over my release
Next two days, Chandra was not in his suite, even Chaya could not tell his whereabouts
Nandini became restless, and in the name of cleaning his room, visited there unnecessarily.
Noting her restiveness Mallika remarked,
oh rajkumari .why are you so restless..Chairman has gone to Singapore on business..he won't be here till next Tues day.How about the news "
On the third day, when she was tucking his bed, the telephone zingled . With out a second thought she attended the phone
" hello
" Is it you cleaning lady,,ah what is your name?
Nandini felt so relievd and with tears, she answered
" sir, I am Nandini,cleaning your room
" Oh..do it perfectly,when I come there, the room should sparkle
" I will do it sir,shall i know your returning date
" hmmm.. why you bother..
" why should I, if I know the date I will extra clean your room
After that, what they talked? Who knows? they themselves did not know.
She had buried her feelings into the depth of her heart, but they refused to die, now they have come forth ..but suddenly it dawned on her that he is going to marry Mallika
