It's a simple case of supply and demand. BW would definitely respond and give you the movies and pairings you want if there was an actual demand for them. It's not like they cast these younger actresses for no reason. They do it because they think it's more viable commercially.

I would go and watch, to me story, screenplay is the star, then good actors/actresses who can do justice to the storyline. To me age really does not matter if the acting is good.

I actually agree with you on this. The audience is equally to be blamed for this. Because film-makers don't put their money in films starring older-actresses, because the audience wouldn't go to theatres to watch their film.

The problem of ageism faced by actresses is SEVERE and needs to be addressed.

Why doesn’t Akshay do a music video or film with Madhuri or Tabu or some other actress in that age group? I think it’s 2 things - one, these men want to be seen as evergreen heroes, eternally young and capable of successfully pulling off romantic roles with women young enough to be their daughters 🤢

Two - it’s the audience mindset also that strangely accepts these creepy pairings when the man is older but not the other way around. Says a lot about how the audience thinks.

Anyway most offputting for me is the sucking up these women have to do to these ‘senior’ actors - calling them Sir, raving about their talent. After reading this post I checked Nupur Sanon’s Instagram and sure enough, her Insta story goes - ‘Sir, can’t wait for the world to see your magic in Filhaal2” 🤢

Could they BE any more obvious ??

You have raised an excellent point here.👏

Why on earth . Today, many senior actress are out of work, NOT because of choice, but more because they are not given the right offers ( or any offers) .

Why are directors casting younger actresses opposite old stars AT ALL?

The audience is to be blamed surely, because of us, talented actresses are written-off by the industry due to their age.

Blue is the answer to red...😆

Will you invest your hard earned money in a business that has huge chances of failing??

To everyone who is saying that Akshay should be allowed to romance younger actresses because he looks the part and can pull it off?

First of all, he is literally using CGI now to look young. How is that actually "pulling it off"? The story doesn't demand Sallu/Ajay/Akshay etc to be with a much younger girls in their films. Why aren't senior actresses be hired to do those roles. Why opt for young actresses at all, especially when age-appropriate actresses are available?🤔

Ageism faced by actresses is real, and needs to be addressed, while actors are romancing girls of their daughter's age. So, obviously should be allowed to question the "norms", before these actors start romancing girls of their granddaughter's age.🤪

Another point. A 50 year old woman romancing a young actor would be problematic too. BUT do we even have such films??

Let us know which film had that kind of pairing (where the story-line didn't ask for it) and was 'accepted' and then we can talk about that.

The story-line of The Suitable Boy was literally about an odd pair (young boy+old woman) , so citing example of Ishaan-Tabu pairing is silly and not related to the discussion.

Honestly, there's no need for this kind of victimization. The older actresses are all pretty rich. They could easily produce films for themselves. Hire hot young male actors opposite themselves if they want. Who is going to ban them from doing so? Most of the older actors produce their own movies.

Why should anyone else be forced to spend their money on them? Produce your own movies, show that you can make money and then other people will automatically come to you with roles too. Can't Aishwarya produce a movie for herself and hire some young hot debutant male opposite herself?

But they don't do so. Why? Because they have the same fear everyone else does - that nobody is going to watch those movies and they will end up losing their money. You can't keep begging/bashing other people and expect them to sustain these actresses' careers. Everyone looks out only for themselves. It's not their responsibility to give work to older actresses.

Truth is the main target audience for BW movies is cinema going Indian men who prefers younger actresses and don’t care even if the actor is old and fugly . Producers and actors only want to cash on whatever sells .

That fear is based on fact though . Katrina gave back to back flops when she worked with ARK,Sid

Yeah, exactly. And the majority of these actresses, including Madhuri, became popular only based on their beauty/sexiness and shaking their ass in catchy songs that appeal to young men. When they aged out of being able to do that, their market disappeared.

People have tried off and on to give them work. YRF gave Madhuri a big comeback movie when she returned from the US with Aaja Nachle. It was promoted a lot too and was a decent movie as well. It still flopped. Ash got at least 3 or 4 chances after having her baby - Sarbjit, Jazba, Fanney Khan (paired opposite a much younger Rajkumar Rao) and ADHM (paired opposite younger Ranbir). She didn't make any impact and didn't draw audiences.
It's only actresses like Tabu and Rani, whose careers were not based on being a male fantasy, that are surviving.

This sums up the entire thing to be honest. Till the time this doesn't change, nothing in cinema will change.

If only the audience starts to to discarding this age-old, normalized concept of of 50+ actors romancing young girls... then something might change. We've got to do our bit.

I am frankly quite shocked how quite comfortable people are with the current "norm", and refuse to acknowledge that there is even a problem.

So basically we should accept the norm because (as per what I learnt on this thread) :-

1) 55 year old man romancing a 25 year girl in a film is fine because it's just acting.
2) Nobody is forcing the younger actress to work with senior actor.

3) Old actresses don't sell.

4) Men are generally older than women in relationships. Go and change the society first.

5) Filmmakers don't owe us anything. They will produce, what sells.

Well.

Can't wait for the time when Sallu and Akki start romancing girls of their great-granddaughters age. smiley39
