I don't see grandpa romancing 20 something being accepted...on the other hand I didn't see a single thread calling out Tabu romancing Ishaan Khatter...I haven't watched that movie...so I don't know...but if its true.... its awesome....people are accepting older woman and younger man....👏

Putting a laughing emoji doesn't make you look cool.

You're just coming across as an arrogant loser with your comments.

And yes, grandpa romancing 20 something is accepted even if it's with the help of CGI or make-up.

Other way around is not.

Even if they photoshop the teasers the age difference is very visible in the music video.

I personally don't care much for age gap thing.. Even in real life people keep on crushing and falling for others without adhering to any rules of modern social acceptability..

Yeah, exactly. And the majority of these actresses, including Madhuri, became popular only based on their beauty/sexiness and shaking their ass in catchy songs that appeal to young men. When they aged out of being able to do that, their market disappeared.

People have tried off and on to give them work. YRF gave Madhuri a big comeback movie when she returned from the US with Aaja Nachle. It was promoted a lot too and was a decent movie as well. It still flopped. Ash got at least 3 or 4 chances after having her baby - Sarbjit, Jazba, Fanney Khan (paired opposite a much younger Rajkumar Rao) and ADHM (paired opposite younger Ranbir). She didn't make any impact and didn't draw audiences.
It's only actresses like Tabu and Rani, whose careers were not based on being a male fantasy, that are surviving.

Well, how pathetic is it that the Hindi film industry has no roles for older women that don’t involve shaking their asses ? So once they can’t shake their ass, they lose their appeal and are on the shelf. Because they aren’t capable of the titillation that is apparently a core component of being a Hindi film actress ? Speaks volumes of the mindset of the average Hindi moviegoer.

An actress lasts as long as her physical attributes last , an actor can keep going long after his looks fade and keep his machismo intact by acting with younger and younger women..

I definitely bashed them when this came out - wanted to puke! Anyone 50plus shouldn’t be romancing a 20 year old.

Forgive me for not feeling sorry for millionaires. There are a lot of bigger problems in the world. All the actresses already knew this when they entered the industry. That's why a majority of them don't go to college and start working at 17 because they want to make use of their teenage looks. They could focus on substance from the beginning like Vidya did and their career would last much longer but most of them choose not to. They want to climb the ladder quickly and focus on their looks and body and being part of popular item songs. Look at the way Shanaya Kapoor is exploiting her body even before she debuts in order to build a male fan base.

And even now, the older actresses have a lot of money and can produce their own content. Why crib about other people not wanting to risk their money on them? The older male stars produce their own movies for the most part, not rely on others.

Everyone already knows the Hindi viewer mindset. That's why the crappiest masala movies become big hits. That stupidity is what the audience wants to see. Indian people mostly see movies as escapism from real life and the male audience wants to see hot young girls. The female audience doesn't have the same interest in hot young men or else actors like Siddharth Malhotra and Aditya Roy Kapoor would be getting superhits every year. Nobody cares about Ishaan Khatter either. It took Shahid Kapoor until his 40s to build somewhat of a fanbase. Nobody really cared about him in his younger days.

These actresses all knew what they were getting into. They know mainstream heroines have short careers spans but they make millions during that time. It is no great tragedy if they don't get heroine roles anymore. If it's acting that actually matters to them, then they can easily produce small movies for themselves but most of them don't because they also don't care about acting as an art.

If we’re talking about money and millionaires, well then men like Akshay and the Khans have enough to last them generations probably. They don’t need any more money either, yet they keep getting roles and keep making more millions though they have all lost their looks and look every bit their age, but insist on playing roles of much younger men and romancing younger and younger women. This is a disturbing trend and saying that actresses have always known it and they shouldn’t expect anything more and just better get used to it is just normalising it. It’s expecting women to just settle for what they get and make hay while the sun shines.

Why shouldn’t things change for the better? Why should women of a certain age have to use their own money and produce their own films? Is this a requirement for older male actors too? They still have big ticket producers lining up to sign them.

‘Heroine’ roles - therein lies the problem. We don’t have many films that feature an actress as anything other than a heroine, as a prop to the male actor/star. There are no takers for films where an actress isn’t the ‘heroine’ in the conventional sense. And that’s because almost all our films have to have a love story. And apparently the evolved Hindi audience doesn’t want to see a love story between a man and woman of the same age.

The difference between Akshay and Nupur is the EXACT same age difference between my father and I down to the EXACT age as well, my father being the same age as Akshay and Nupur being my age. It is definately strange if I look at it from my perspective to be honest as these men are more like father figures for someone my age but as long as they are both consenting adults who both EQUALLY chose to do this, we can't say much. I mean, I'm sure Nupur has equal part in saying YES to this project as much as Akshay. She is legally an adult too.

I, however, find it disgusting when there is a minor involved. That changes the situation a bit. For example, Sridevi's case is something I would consider exploitation as minors cannot consent no matter how much they say they are okay with it. In Salmans case, I also think people brought up the fact that Sneha Ullal was a minor when she signed and filmed Lucky.

You keep saying things should change. How? It seems like you want other people to sink money on these older actresses even though you yourself say there are no takers for these films. Why will anyone waste their money to sustain someone else's career? The older male actors produce almost all their films. They take their own risks and if/when a movie flops, they pay back distributors too. Will an actress do any of that? The answer is no. They walk away from flops without any worries or any responsibility.

Just cribbing without any solutions does nothing.

The only real solution is for the older actresses themselves to be proactive and produce their own films and take the same risks and responsibility that the male actors do. Nowadays there are so many options like streaming also where the risk is considerably reduced. So the women should make their own films instead of this constant victimization about the cruel world that won't spend money on them. The actresses themselves are happy chilling instead of working to change things. They themselves don't care as much as random people do.
