I have always been a ranbir kapoor fan. Well, atleast from the time rajneeti released. I remember being blown away by the quiet guy who acted like a silent killer...and he was so restrained and good. Never otp...never out of depth. That too fresh out of a comedy like apkgk.

That was my starter.😛

Next year he blew me away again. Rockstar.⭐️

And the next year was dessert.barfi.😳

Yjhd gave me a different rk. A relatable urbane and normal guy. But charismatic as hell.

I hated besharam. 🤢Not because rk was bad. Because the film made me disappointed as a fan and a cinegoer. It was his weakest performance ever...followed by his very first film..sawaariya.

The year 2014...rk had no releases. I watched the movies i had missed. Wake up sid. And i coukd not hnderstand how a gheesa peeta story like that could be made into that charming bit of slice of life. I applauded not only rk...but also ayan, the director.👏

Rocket singh to be very frank bored me to death. I did not watch it beyond 20 minutes.🥱

Cut to 2015. A year of failure for rk; one that would have wiped out a lesser actor. But tamasha kind of made up for it. The time when ved talks to himself in the mirror is a scene i can watch umpteen times. To give her her due...deepika lit up that movie just as much as rk. 😳

For anyone looking for faults to find...bombay velvet. I did not get anything in that movie. I am a fangirl...but not a blind girl. Eeks.🤢 nor was ranbir very good. He was clueless in my opinion.

2016 gave me another character. A crying rk...a weak and very childish ayaan sanger. Who latches on to his bff...and demands love.cries on footpaths and sings chaana mereya. Honestly...that thud on heart with flowerpot still makes me shudder.

And we come to jagga. Nobody else in bollywood could pull off jagga. That film had a very nice first half...and the second i skip. Heaven knows what basu wanted to do.

But his best till date was of course sanju. Every critic every watcher seemed duly impressed. Nowhere did i see ranbir kapoor in the film. I only saw sanjay dutt. If someone says it was caricaturish...well maybe you did not watch it...or else you deliberately dislike the actor. Fanwars.

Anyway. All that is my opinion.

Now...whoever liked ranbir as sanju...please tell me below why and what and how.
If anyone is not a fan and still liked ranbir...it will be much appreciated if you still say why you liked or did not like. But please...if and only if you have seen the movie at all.😛

PLZ refrain from bashing the film...we know all possible reasons why the film may have been panned.
Also please do not bring up ranbir kapoor's personal life here. I am only talking about ranbir kapoor the actor.

I liked Ranbir initially. I liked him in Sawariya songs. Didn't watch the movie till later and still not completely. Then I liked him in movies like Ajab Prem, Wake up sid, Rajneeti. Didn't watch bachna ae, didn't like his look from the trailer and songs and didn't watch Rocket singh cuz it didn't look interesting. By that time, especially after Rajneeti, I thought he was a good actor.

Then I watched Rockstar and Barfi. I loved Rockstar and still do and don't know why it was criticised so much. After that and Barfi, I thought he was a very good actor. Didn't think he was the best or great or anything. But then I came across people and articles calling him the best actor ever. And things like these change people's perceptions so it probably did for me too. Then I think came YJHD, and while I liked the movie, I didn't get the extreme craze for it. That is also when I read somewhere and started realising he always does the same kind of roles in all movies. I was unimpressed with him in that movie and it was mainly a Deepika movie for me. Post that, I haven't watched any of his movies because I've never been interested to watch his one dimensional acting really. Not even Tamasha.

People, including me, have praised him a lot for Rajneeti. I watched it again recently and expected him to have done well but I realised his acting was mediocre. The reason why he suited that character was because he's like that in his real life. Very much played himself. And I don't criticise actors for playing characters close to their real personality onscreen but it definitely doesn't deserve to be called a brilliant performance in that case.

Since this post is a reaction to my comment in another thread, I thought I should reply to it. You called me a hater and now having read your post, I can call you a stan but I don't want to because I don't know you. Just because the majority have liked your favourite's work and somebody doesn't, you don't have to take offence at that call them names.

Creating that whole ecosystem where paid critics and troubadours call someone mediocre as the best thing ever does change perceptions. People's subconscious minds take the misleading information at face value unless they actively rationalise in their minds.

Ranbir was amazing as Sanju, completely immersed himself into the character. Never a dull moment in his performance. From anger, to carelessness, sadness, frustration, yearning, everything was top notch. He played the dark and the light parts all with conviction. He should definitely get the best actor award for it this year.

for me personally yes his performance in sanju was good but i wudn't say its the best of his career, i rate his performances in tamasha , rockstar and barfi higher, thats just my personal opinion, for me barfi is his best

now if someone didn't like his performance in sanju or thought it was caricaturish your going to assume they are a hater or they didn't watch the movie? that isnt a fair judgement to make, movies and performances are subjective, some like a performance and some dont

I personally found him great in Sanju.
Whether it is his best or not, is different topic, but the way he adapted Sanjay Dutt's mannerism, stance and expressions were excellent.
Nit every actor can do that, and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve that.

But he didn't played the caricature of Sanjay Dutt, or the definition of caricature is also subjective.

No zara. My word you seem to want to call me unfair today. Thats twice now.😆
I am perfectly ok with someone not liking his performance. I have said already that even people who dont will be appreciated if they tell me why not.

What i do have a problem with is when someone self confessedly saying that they only saw the trailer and decided that his acting was caricaturish. Would you call that fair?

I know why you said this...and i recommend you read tge entire conversation between me and astha back in the thread where we spoke earlier ttoday before butting in and casting aspersions upon my biasedness. She did not watch the movie😊. Thats ok too. But then should she be giving opinions on it?

He's the most overrated actor we have and the only reason he is good is because he keeps playing the same character over and over again.

Whether its Sanju or Rockstar or Ayaan - He is always playing the man-child. Circumstances are different in these films - but the heart of the character is mostly the same.

Give him a film like Shahid...or a role like Badlapur or even something simple like Stree and you will see him falter.

The only film I will give him credit for is Barfi and thats it. The rest is all the same. Different fluff, same puff.
