All i know of sanjay dutt are munnabhai, vaastav khalnayak and one jeena isi ka naam hai epi.oh and one documentary hell and back or something.

Others were not very interesting to me. Based on what i saw of sanju. ...ranbir killed it.

Well I do think his acting as munnabhai was pretty bad, I don't think he transformed completely into sanju, I am just saying at places he came close!

Sanju was an example that Ranbir can play any role he wants...Sanju had a very limited scope for an actor as Sanjay Dutt and his style, his talk, his walk is all still fresh in public memory...his fans have seen him perform on screen...Ranbir had no wiggle room in Sanju...and yet he played it to perfection...just shows that he is way above his generation actors...I won't call him the best but he is definitely one of the best...as an actor he gets a 9/10 from me.
People say that Kamli shone in Sanju...yes he did because no one knew or had seen the real Kamli...it was easier for Vicky to give Kamli his own touch...play it the way how he wanted Kamli to be...Ranbir had no luxury of that...He could have either been Sanju or his caricature...and most of the people didn't see Ranbir in the movie..they saw Sanjay Dutt...and that is the biggest compliment any actor can get.

also i can understand if some people have not watched movies like naam or sadak and stuff since it might be before your time, but I have pretty much grown up on watching movies like "jodi no.1" and "haseena maan jayegi" quite underrated movies on this forum I guess.

Ranbir as sanju is a comedy ! Its not that oscar worthy acting to jay jay kaar him TBH and i disagree with People saying that they saw sanjay dutt in ranbir .. NAH !!!all i saw was ranbir trying to act/imitate like sanjay...since the movie is all abt sanjay dutt people set their minds already that they are watching sanjay dutt instead of ranbir...but if we see the movie as it is then we see ranbir imitating sanjay !

The movie is not hit cos of ranbir's oscar worthy acting but cos of people's curiosity to know abt sanjay's life but alas the director manipulated the subject ,mixed some masala to appeal audience and to show sanjay as some mahatma, who does no wrong !!

@bold. Well thats your opinion. I disagree.
When you see sanket bhosle imitating sanjay dutt does your mind immediately accept him as dutt? Mine does not. He pulls in through comedy. There us nothing attractive about bad imitation. It pushes people away.

Ranbir had to adopt some mannerismsbof dutt. Dutt is a known face and known mannerisms which were at his peak and even now hoot worthy. People liked dutt more for his macho image than acting.

It woukd look ridiculous for ranbir not to imitate dutt at all. Then people would hate it and say he cannot become sanjay dutt in dutt biopic. He had a limited amount of leg room to act...bring a soul to it and yet stay within the shadow of dutt. And he hit it outta the ball park.

@red...i thought i asked people not to bring their disapproval of the movie here. I disapprove of the movie too...but appreciate the acting.

And as to why it was a hit. I can speak from personal experience. Me and my 4 besties were not even 10 when dutt was at his peak. We hardly thought he was relevant. We went to see ranbir as sanju...purely based on the trailer the movie seemed good. And it was. As a movie. Disappointing as a biopic.

if it is your personal experience you cannot determine why it was a hit! And if you do not even know about the actor then how can you judge the biopic was bad? when you have no info about him? it is so contradictory what you are saying here.

See There is no diff between ranbir and any other imitating actor imitating sanjay ! Doing mannerism doesnt make him sanjay automaticlly..in that case spreading arms like srk does make someone look like srk ? ( bringing him as an example ..hope u dont lecture why i brought his name )

And for the red part the said movie and the lead's acting is interlinked...why majority went to see sanju because to know abt his life is the explanation and for not ranbir's acting which people are doing jay jay kaar !

Its not possible.for anybody to become anybody else. Thats a very weird statement. No matter how much mannerisms you adopt and kitni bhi acting kar lo. Ranbir is an actor. He did as much acting as possible. And i believe he came quite close to emvodying the dutt as the script permitted.

Ranbir did not just do mannerisms. He did much more. And i am not tge only one saying it. You disagree. I understand. But i will do jay jay kar as you mention it...because my opinion is diameteically opposite to yours about his act in sanju. I loved it. Like so many others. You don't and are entitled ro your own opinion.

And as for why the majority went to see it...i told you...i did not. Neither did my friends go to see dutt or his life as such. So how did you know why majority went to see it? Thats just presumptuous. I like hirani movies. I saw it for him and for ranbir. Most of the other people in the theatre walked out praising ranbir...gaiety galaxy and fdfs...a lot of channels were asking for opinions. Whatever they may have seen it for..they said they enjoyed ranbir performance most as I heard while hanging around waiting for someone.
