I'm posting 2 songs from the classic Sahib, Bibi aur Ghulam (1962), Music by Hemant Kumar and lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni who almost always worked with Naushad.
Na jao Saiyyan chudake baiyyan
kasam tumhari main ro padoongi

Geeta Dutt's voice is dripping with sensuality and intoxication, while Meena Kumari pleads with her husband, Rehman not to leave, while he looks resistant to her pleas, in fact, disgusted to find his wife drunk. Hypocrisy much?

Saaqiya aaj mujhe neend nahi aayegi
suna hai teri mehfil mein rat jaga hai

Beautifully sung by Asha Bhosle and picturized on Minoo Mumtaz. I love the camerawork by V.K Murthy here, all the dancers are in shadows except Minoo.

Agree totally. I love this song, I love how Lata sings it and the tune itself by S.D Burman is brilliant. The Lyrics by Neeraj are terrific too! And Waheeda Rehman simply shines in the song. She owns it. She looks beautiful, dances like a dream - even though I found the choreography somewhat off-putting in places, she carries off the weirdest of steps with so much poise, it's hard not to applaud her. I would've surely posted this song in this topic, thank you for doing it!

I love the choreography, Waheeda is able to pull it off well too. I was drawn to it in the first place because she does this weird classic dance when she's drunk. Her body is going all haywire cuz she's tipsy but she stays dignified in the steps she does. IDK it is just nothing like I've ever seen so I loved it.

One more Johnny Walker song- I love this guy and his songs. Also helps that they were sung by Mohammad Rafi, who's an absolute favorite 😳😃.

In this one, Madhubala ably matches steps with him!

Dekhta chala gaya main zindagi ki raah mein
har koi kadam kadam pe mast hai gunaah mein
tu bhi ek gunaah kar, dil kisi ki chaah kar

- Gateway of India (1957)

Madan Mohan's music is so out of the ordinary in this one. The chemistry and timing between the 2 actors is just fab. Rajinder Krishan's lyrics add to the fun.
Just watch the part when Madhubala says " Khayaal-e-zulf-e-yaar kar, nazar ko beqaraar kar" and Johnny tries rolling his eyes and giving up says "Nahi hoti"! 🤣
And then she says "Zara kareeb aa mere"
and he's lying on the couch and says "Arre apna bhi majboor hai aur tu bahut hi door hai"! 😆
The guy on the piano is Johnny's real-life brother. Johnny Walker was born Badruddin Kazi and was a B.E.S.T bus conductor when Balraj Sahni spotted him entertaining people around him. His screen name was taken from the popular brand of whisky, probably because of the many drunkard roles he played on screen.

loved this song!!! :D :D ...love the lyrics, video, direction.

@red -- i guess this what a total entertainer is? :)
@bold ...interesting LB, it seems quite a lot of actors of back were *spotted* and brought into acting..

This song! God this song! From the very first note Rafi starts to hum to the way he alternates sadness and seduction just gives me goosebumps. Add to that the absolute sexiness that Dev Anand exudes on screen, S.D Burman's melodious tune and lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri and you have magic unparalleled.

This movie got Dev Anand his first Filmfare Award and I absolutely adore Dev-Madhubala's chemistry in this one! She's a journalist who finds herself irresistibly drawn to him, while he's seeking to free his innocent father from prison over a crime he did not commit. The bulk of the film involves Karan (Dev Anand) seeking out witnesses and trying to gather proof of his father's innocence while Asha (Madhubala) initially misunderstands him when she finds him canoodling with Kishori (Nalini Jaywant), she soon repents when she learns that Kishori is a key witness who lied to implicate his father and Karan is just playing a game to win her over. Kishori, however, actually falls in love with him (who wouldn't? 😳) and helps him even after learning of his deception. This movie also has the famous "Accha ji main haari" and "Nazar laagi raaja tore bangle par" but this song stands apart. I don;t think there could ever be a Best of Rafi or Best of Dev Anand or for that matter, a best of S.D Burman without this song featured!

Classic 😃hmm.. what's the context for Acha ji mein haari in the movie, LB? :P

Pretty obvious, Angel! She thinks he's a Casanova toying with her heart when she sees him with Kishori, but later repents when she finds out the real reason. But he's in no mood to forgive (he calls her "sarphiri" and says that her "dimaag" has "bhoosa" in it! 😆. That's when this song comes in. Pretty sure he was faking the whole "roothna" part, who can resist Madhubala's charms especially when she's asking for forgiveness so cutely! 😳

And about Johnny Walker- it was Guru Dutt who christened him after giving him the role of a drunkard in "Baazi".

There've been hardly any drunk songs pictured on Shammi Kapoor (another personal favorite), but this one is a true gem! The music for this movie (Kashmir ki Kali) is upbeat and romantic for the most part, except this song which is steeped in sadness.
The very first note that the saxophone hits pierces the heart and Mohammad Rafi vocals are spot on - pain, sorrow, heartbreak, loss everything is evident in the way he sings, as is the intoxication of the actor. This song is a true example of the stories we've heard of how much in sync Rafi and Shammi Kapoor were. Just watch how Shammi voices Rafi's harkats and how Rafi adds a nuance in perfect co-ordination with Shammi's actions. Pure genius!
O.P Nayyar's music for this movie is phenomenal. As are S.H Bihari's lyrics.

Another Dev song. This one could qualify as one of waiting or heartbreak more than being drunk. But then it's Guide, it's Mohd Rafi and it's Dev Anand. And S.D Burman and Shailendra. And I don't know if another topic will get made where I can post this song. So here it is.
