Ok , here is my review of jagga jasoos and will try will keep it concise and to the point. As is my usual way , I will start by

1. Story - Story is of a man who due to some circumstances becomes a part in purulia arms case . Due to his luck, he meets an orphan boy jagga and adopts him. However some big level officers are after him and he has to leave jagga behind after getting him admitted in a residential school. After that, Jagga gets a tape on his each birthday . However one birthday the tape does not arrive and it turns out that guy is dead . Jagga does not admit it and the story revolves around whether guy is alive and will jagga meet him again . Along the way jagga gets embroiled in arms deal case altogether as well.

2. Acting - every one was decent , however I liked bob biswas the most.

3. Music - thumbs up from my side

4. Direction - average

5. screenplay - lost the plot during the last 40- 50 minutes of the movie and story feels rushed to come to an ending

Overall - Movie starts on an extremely promising note and for a movie buff like me I got the sense that I am in for something special. At the intermission stage , I was excited . Movie came on main plot after intermission and the climax was extremely rushed and sadly seemed childish . Anurag Basu must take the blame for the climax for it is clear that it is the delay in making the movie which has caused the damage. During the whole climax sequence , ranbir kapoor is looking mota sa( due to him getting beefed up for sanju baba role ) and has a wig .

Anyway , it was lovely to watch the 75 % of the movie and it was an honest attempt but alas for anurag basu whose time management leaves a lot to be desired. One should watch the movie for the initial 75 % alone and so should not be missed if you watch movies for the love of cinema.

I go with 3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️and1/2⭐️

by Agam Anand - 18/07/20170

Dear Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor,

First of all, I want to thank you for Jagga Jasoos, I usually write reviews and opinions on movies but this time around I want to write a thank you letter and you know why? Let me tell you. We live in a strange country where same masala mediocre cinema is what the mass loves, they don't have the concentration level to understand the beauty of complex screenplays with no taste for art. We live in a country where loud films become big hits and still you guys dared to make this film. Hats off to you Mr. Basu, people are saying you tried to make the Indian Tintin but what's wrong in it? I am an author and I get inspired by the books I read and you can see the hint of Shakespeare's Sonnet No. 55 in my first novella too. Trust me no work of fiction in this world takes place without inspiration.

The Media is against your film, some dual faced Indian critics are saying being a true musical is a short coming and the same people loved La La Land, Into The Woods and Beauty And The Beast. There's one critic who mocked the film because it commented on war, seriously? It's an adventure mystery dealing a case related to illegal arms supply in the world and they have every right to comment on war, and they did, what's wrong in it? Some cried over the length of it and the same clapped like crazy when a never ending ear-tearingly loud Bahubali: The Conclusion came. The state of film reviews in the country is a laughing stock. Well, I also had issues with a couple of scenes but in front of an overall wonderful magical experience that is nothing and no art piece is perfect. The film might not get success at the box office but don't worry, you have to move ahead with your head held high because you have made a great film. A true musical adventure with heart. And never compromise in the pressure of earning money, just follow your heart and make visionary films like this and I guarantee you the horizon of your niche will definitely increase with time. This movie took me into the world I wanted to see as an artist, gave me the kind of high which I had after watching Tim Burton's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, even I saw a glimpse of Burton's cult classic Big Fish in Jagga Jasoos.

Mr. Basu I know there are many like me who loved the film and you have raised the bar of Indian Cinema. I also want to say Thank you to Ravi Varman who painted the vision of Basu on celluloid and every frame of the movie is sensational. I want to hug Pritam too, who when got an opportunity of a lifetime to showcase his talent has pushed the envelope in the best way possible. Thank you for casting Saswata Chatterjee and giving him an opportunity to deliver a superb performance. Thank you, Katrina Kaif, for being a part of this beautiful and brave film.

And now, at last, Thank you, Ranbir Kapoor, for being the artist you are. Which actor of our generation has the guts to act and produce a film like this in an industry where people and trade write off the actors only after a single flop? He knew he is not Aamir Khan, the only mainstream actor, and Superstar whose experiments are loved and accepted in the country almost every single time yet Kapoor acted and dared to produce this risky venture. Since your debut, you have been the different one and tried hands to do movies which were unusual. Be it the lovely Rocket Singh: Salesman of the year, Rockstar, Barfi, Tamasha, Wake up Sid and even Bombay Velvet (I just loved your portrayal of Johnny Balraj, didn't like the film though). You are the next Aamir Khan, mark my words or I would say the first Ranbir Kapoor. Here nobody will praise the efforts you guys have made to make this film but do not worry. This movie will find its cult in the times to come, Thank you again for Jagga Jasoos.

Irrespective of its box office Jagga Jasoos for me is a success, and it is bigger than the box office because it is Cinema's success. After the pre credit tease scene, I badly want to see a sequel but I know no one will come out to back the project but if possible make a Netflix sequel without the worry of the bloody competitive box office.

A Creative viewer,

^^...blaming the audience is useless...why would people spend their hard earned money on something that doesn't appeal to them...its not like movies are made for charity...ki mann nahi hai fir bhi dekho...to help...everyone has different taste...different things appeal to different people.
