Super Junior’s Choi Si-Won has again run into trouble. He put up a post highlighting how Nigerian Christians stayed true to their faith as Islamist militants razed down churches. Some days back, his condolence post for Charlie Kirk was also called out by the international fan community. He liked a post that highlighted how Charlie Kirk stayed true to the words of Jesus Christ even when he was dying. Kirk, one of the architects of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign was known for his contentious remarks on gender, race and politics. Fans had slammed him saying he should stay away from the group.
This post has also enraged Muslim fans of Super Junior. He said Israel has also bombed at churches in Gaza but he has nothing to say about that. Others felt that as a top K-Pop idol who has a lot of Muslim fans, he should be very careful. As we know, religious discord is adding more fire to a rather volatile geo-political climate. They said he is very selective and hypocritical about what he wants to support.
Choi Siwon has been an ambassador for UNICEF since many years. He is also very open about how he is a faithful Protestant Christian. Choi Si-won also said that he would like to spread the word of the Lord. However, his selective posts have invited outrage of late. When he faced flak for the Charlie Kirk post, he said that it was a heart-breaking tragedy so he paid his tribute and condolences. He said it was not to show his political leanings or side with a certain group. Charlie Kirk was also known as a staunch ally of Israel and ally of the Jewish people. The fighting in West Bank has upset many peace-loving people given the deaths of innocents that include children.
Super Junior member Choi Si-won has angered many K-Pop fans across the globe. As we know, K-Pop is consumed in many nations that has a huge Muslim demographic. This post has left them hurt beyond measure. After his support for Charlie Kirk, they felt this was not needed. As we know, very few from world of K-Pop have spoken up on Gaza.
