Men are supposed to be the providers (patriarchy affects everyone) so them marrying some woman for money or social status actually makes them look worse. The worst thing for a guy is to be seen as living off his wife or her family's name or money.

In traditional roles, women look for stability and power which comes from a guy being rich and successful. Men look for beauty/health so they can have good looking kids and look like the type of successful men who could attract such a pretty lady.

I agree, have seen it happening how if a guy marries a girl way out of his league in looks people don't mind but if a guy marries an overweight or girl who is considered unattractive, he gets told that why would he marry her.. as if all the worth of a girl depends on her appearance only. 😕
this is what I meant when I said for girls, society expects looks which is ingrained in the entertainment industry also. For guys it's other stuff which let's face it, can be earned whereas looks are something someone is born with and have no control over. Which is why girls end up having so many surgeries from lips to eyes to whatnot.

As for the misogyny all over this thread calling equality as "whining" - LOL! 🤣

I think I'm the odd one out here as I don't like Hrithik or Salman and prefer actors and actresses with darker skin. Same applies for Hollywood, I am not a fan of the top actors there. Not saying I don't find white people attractive or "fair" Indians attractive, it's just my preference.

OT: I was going to make a topic saying "Why are most Bollywood actors average looking while actresses are models?" Yet, there are model type men and for the most part FEW have made it so big. I don't actually like model looks in men or women. Not relatable at all!
Not saying I don't like good looking people (my version of it) BUT these model types are all eye candy. They catch people's attention. However, I do agree that the male audience in both Hollywood and Bollywood tend to be bigger or more demanding on what will be seen in films.

Like all these men go crazy or Scarlet Jo and Megan Fox and to me I don't see what's so great. Just a hot chick! I also don't really like Ryan Reynolds ect ect. I mean look, Kim Kartrashian and her family are big...and I dont know why?! Lol 😆

I do think there are more good-looking guys but they don't get a lot of opportunities. They are trying to break through but find it hard to do so since the industry is patriarchal. Only the sons get to carry the legacy forward so, the male outsiders find it tough to make it big.

But the point that has yet to be brought up. All the male HW actors given in the first quote are white.

Lol this post is criticizing me I see as I made those handsome posts that OP is talking about. I never said anything about them being popular or successful in Bollywood, I was just trying to have some nice discussions on the forum if you have an issue with that then you can pm me and we can talk about it

You're not alone, I don't find white men attractive too. Other than Francisco Lachowski and young Johnny Depp. I love brown skinned men the most (Pakistani, Indian) and find black and Korean guys very attractive too like Lee Min Ho and ASAP Rocky...

LMAO .. classic case of "nach na jaane , aangan tedha " ... 🤣

I never hesitate to acknowledge misogyny .. it is very much there in all parts of the world .. but you have to look at the definition of "misogyny" here ..

Indian guys jealous of good looking male actors = misogyny ...

Indian guys accepting untalented good looking female actors = misogyny ...

Indian guys not bothered to encourage male flowerpots for women = misogyny ...

I mean , what even ? ..kahan se kharidi aisi bakwaas dictionary .. 😆

Agree but I'm not even sure how this can be dismantled. If guys are to disregard looks in women, what other thing can they base their attraction on? Like I said, patriarchy ensures that men cannot really go after things like money and status in women because people would look down on them as freeloaders and gold-diggers or lazy boy toys who have no respect for themselves.

The only thing left is that elusive "personality" but personality is not quantifiable or measurable. What one might consider a good personality, another person might consider horrible.

I mean just look how this forum itself reacted when they saw Salman's sister getting married to a guy much better looking than her. People said all kinds of bad things about him because it's automatically assumed that he must be a jerk after her money or trying to use Salman to become famous. Most men do not want such accusations on them.

Good-looking guy marrying an average/ugly girl as ILZM mentioned is looked down upon 'cause the man is not using his status to get the 'best'. A woman's worth is mainly attached to her looks and if she doesn't bring that to the table, she is considered useless.

@red- Fair point.

@bold- True. Not right at all.

@LordOfTheLight- You may think it is unreasonable because it doesn't affect you but does that mean the rest of us affected by it should not call it out? Sorry, but continue whining about our 'whining' some more. 😆 Also, did you just say patriarchy has to do with how men and women are wired?
