Salman is the most popular I would say and he is/was known for his looks. Theres also Hrithik, Akshay, and then Ranveer/Ranbir from the younger generations. Up and coming - Varun, Sid etc.
Its really only SRK thats not good looking and Aamir too. The rest are fine.

Aamir too was a rage among girls when he made his debut

Salman was good looking in his youth but definitely not now. He's a 50+ uncle with sagging jowls and fake hair, etc. I don't think his popularity now is based on looks.

Personally I think women do have purchasing power. I think women make up the majority of SRK and Aamir's fan base especially in their younger days. I don't think the kind of romcoms they became famous from are the types of movies men are crazy about.

I think women just don't care much about looks. They care more about image and power and personality. Guys in the audience are also not going to care about male superstar looks so all together it makes sense we get average looking guys who have other things that attract the audience.

Men are more interested in beauty so the women of BW are better looking.

The point is that actresses like Shraddha, Jackie and Kat manage to survive and do so well, mainly 'cause they hold the attention of the audience which has the power to influence the industry. The female audience currently does not have the purchasing power to be able to tell the industry who/what they want to watch on screen, hence most movies cater to the male audience who actually matter (monetarily) to the film industry. No one called the guys in this form jealous or insecure. We were talking about a general phenomenon which exists. Calling out sexism does not mean saying 'all men are sexist'.

And I am not speaking about the boys in the forum. I am speaking about boys in general. In India yes there is a problem about preference of fair skinned girls, yes there is problem of girls not getting to do what they want. But that is not I am disputing my thing is simple I simply did not liked the implications in the first page of this thread where it was made to look like males don't allow good looking boys to flourish in the industry because we are insecure and get jealous of them. So we make average looking male actor bigger actors. Also my question of one good looking guy with loads of talent who could not make big because we got jealous of his popularity with girls is not answered.

Did I say it doesn't affect you ? .. obviously with your rants , you have made it clear that it does affect you .. and I am not saying that it is unreasonable for you to be affected .. what I find unreasonable is the way you tried to pin the blame , it's like you did it with the first thing that popped up in your mind without thinking over logic or reasoning ... "I blame misogyny for everything" is well , just plain stupid ..

How can you justify pinning the blame on Indian men who supposedly don't accept untalented good looking male actors when the untalented good looking actresses are accepted without a problem ? .. isn't it obvious , why ? .. ones sexuality cannot make one misogynist .. why on earth would straight men be bothered to accept a gorgeous guy who can't act to save his life or who doesn't bring anything inspiring on screen ?... you should be addressing this question to women .. why are they wasting their drools over 50 yr olds ? .. instead , you found out a twisted illogical way to pin the blame & that's what I was talking about ..

----

Edited to add .. regarding patriarchy question , your interpretation is the polar opposite of what I wrote in my previous post .. I meant , besides/ other than patriarchy , there is also the question of how men & women are wired diffrently & how it affects their choices ..

Aww you are calling arguments 'stupid' and 'illogical' just because you lack the ability to understand them. 😆

I don't understand why you're getting so worked up over this and getting personal. I guess that happens when you point out uncomfortable truths to people.

Don't know how to explain anything to you 'cause clearly, you aren't mature enough to discuss stuff without resorting to condescension and insults.

Who really cares about looks in this field especially in bollywood. The girls considered hot are for timepass item songs and showpiece use.
The so called hot men going by trends Arjun Rampal John Abraham are all b grade actors and out of the scene. Its the charisma and screen presence that counts which makes audience connect. Not by the few posters here that keep posting about how awful an actor is looking in every thread, they're just trolls

Eh, I think neither guys or girls relate well with people who are too good looking. It's hard to take them seriously in roles especially down-to-earth normal person type of roles because their looks are distracting. Most people cannot connect to someone like Aishwarya or Hrithik and even if they gain fame, they will never be the most beloved.

People identify more with actors who seem relatable. I don't know if it's due to jealousy or not but who would buy Aishwarya playing some middle class girl next door? Or Hrithik playing some lower class guy struggling to get a job in a factory? Aish fails majorly when she tries to do roles of substance and it makes perfect sense that Hrithik sticks to larger than life emperors and superheros.

Calling ARGUMENTS stupid & illogical is personal attack ? .. clearly you havnt been on the receiving end of actual personal attacks, have you ? .. 😆 .. I did not call YOU names , just the arguments which were made here ..

I see you have already made a judgment on my comprehension skills .. not surprised there .. this what people usually resort to when they don't have anything productive to add to their argument .. happens, no issues .. 😆
