At a recent event in Mumbai marking the launch of the latest Society Achievers magazine issue, veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha spoke up in support of the paparazzi. His remarks came just days after Jaya Bachchan’s widely discussed comment on photographers’ attire drew attention online.
Appearing alongside actress Poonam Dhillon, Shatrughan lightened the mood with his words for the media present. He said, “Aap log pant bhi achhi pehente hain aur shirt bhi achhi pehente hain.” The remark, which highlighted the paparazzi’s dressing sense, prompted laughter among attendees. Poonam Dhillon appreciated his positive tone, noting that with such energy, it felt as if “the new year has already begun.”
Shatrughan Sinha, who has largely focused on politics and public life in recent years, has appeared on screen only occasionally. His last notable film role was a cameo in Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se (2018), where he played himself in a light-hearted sequence with fellow industry veterans.

The veteran actress had sparked debate when she questioned the dressing standards of photographers at public events. Speaking to Barkha Dutt, Jaya remarked that many photographers behaved unprofessionally and were often inadequately trained. She said, “Bahar drain-pipe type gande-gande pants pehen kar, haath mein mobile le kar… they think just because they have a phone, they can take your picture and say whatever they want, along with the kind of comments they pass.”
Her comments triggered mixed reactions. Some viewers agreed with her perspective on professionalism, while others felt it was overly critical of photographers who work under challenging, fast-paced conditions.
Shatrughan’s supportive stance highlights a more encouraging approach toward media personnel, appreciating their effort and presence, while also keeping the atmosphere light and positive at the Mumbai event.
As of now, Jaya Bachchan has not issued any further clarification regarding her remarks, leaving the conversation around the dressing and conduct of paparazzi open to public debate.
