Oh this is the OKC study done in the West. Are you saying we can extend this study to India?

Other findings of the study-

82% of non-black men on OkCupid show some bias against black women.

Men don't write black women back. Or rather, they write them back far less often than they should. Black women reply the most, yet get by far the fewest replies. Essentially every race"including other blacks"singles them out for the cold shoulder.

According to the study, white men and women are the most preferred, they are considered more attractive and place higher on the society's totem pole.

^I don't think it can be denied that white men and white women are preferred by all races but I don't think it's purely about looks here. White people have had power for generations, much more than other races, so it's not surprising that they get picked first for dating options. They dominate culture too, in terms of Hollywood and modeling and advertising and all sorts of media so their idea of beauty spreads to everyone else also.

This obviously affects Indians too and I do agree that most desis subconsciously prefer lighter skin both in men and women even if they don't admit it outright.

You will rarely see desi girls drooling over Idris Elba or even Ajay Devgan. Same as you will rarely see desi guys going crazy over Lupita Nyngo or even Mughda Godse. Even with Priyanka, I hardly see any guys interested in her especially when she's not lightened up and covered in foundation 10 shades lighter than her real skin tone.

Because the industry is supposed to be made up of exceptional people. It's not like Aishwarya looks like some average girls walking on Indian streets. Heck, even someone lesser good looking like Shraddha Kapoor is very very highly ranked in terms of looks compared to the average girl you see in your neighborhood.

Guys are IMO not as good looking as Indian girls but even in that group, there will be a few really handsome ones but we don't see them in BW at all. I think they deliberately cast more average guys to appeal to the male audience who don't want to feel inadequate when watching movies.

<font face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif">@bold- Lol how dismissive. Demand can only be created when women hold purchasing power. Currently, BW doesn't care much about female audiences 'cause women don't have the bank balance to bargain for content. Maybe there should be more of a push for equality then? Acknowledging a problem does not equal to 'whining'. I guess people 'whine' about racism, class-ism, casteism etc. 😆

I did mention the part in red in my post. It's not some coincidence but rather a symptom of patriarchy. Men are willing to marry poorer, good-looking women 'cause it does not affect their status (Mostly, male status is not drawn from women) but for a woman, status matters 'cause her status is directly linked to the man/family she is associated with. Patriarchy affects both men and women but I don't understand why mentioning that it disadvantages women more than men is a problem.

So the lack of purchasing power = men need to accept good looking flowerpot male actors ? ..

Besides aren't women oriented films/ chick flicks being made in BW now ? .. flowerpot men can be used there .. but women would rather watch 50 year olds than those flowerpots .. truth is flowerpor men don't succeed in holding the female attention either , women would rather go n watch charismatic saggy superstar than these flowerpots .. so there isn't a tangible demand either .. where is the question of pushing for equality when the demand itself doesn't agree with it ? .. we can give chances to wooden actresses with good looks but it doesn't look like women are willing to do the same .. they want someone with talent/box office power & if good looks factors in , it's a win-win ( Hrithik Roshan , Salman , Dharmendra ) , but they refuse to settle for wooden flowerpots ( higher standards etc etc ) while we are "kinder" in this regard ..

Patriarchy is the devil .. no doubt .. but most of it has got a lot to do with how men & women are wired .. and complaining over unreasonable things equates to whining in my dictionary .. 😆 .. it's not like Indian male audience is the sole reason for dearth of good looking men onscreen as is being insinuated in this thread .. but yes we do take credit/blame for good looking wooden actresses like Katrina & Shraddha ..

This proves my theory that it all comes to skin colour and height at the end for beth genders . Infact Indian male are disliked the most by their own race 😆

Answer my question first. You guys are accusing us guys of being jealous of good looking guys hence good looking guys don't become a superstars, so my question is tell me one really good looking guy with loads of talent who did not became superstar because we hated them?? Dont say Fawad as his case has more to do with him being a Pakistani and all bs politics with it. Salman, Dharmendra and Hrithik are really good looking dudes who made it to the top. Looks helped but more importantly they had charisma, luck and talent.
See the simple thing, a good looking male actor cannot hold male heterosexual audience all because of his good looks. Because we do not get attracted to their good looks, we connect if they have charisma(Salman), charm(Srk), Talent(Aamir), Coolness(Akki) or Machoism(Sanju baba). That does not mean we rejected good looking guys just because they look good, and average male in the audience is ugly. So should I call all girls in the forum insecure and jealous of Shraddha, Jacqueline or Katrina because they are regularly bashed by you guys for their lack of talent.
Also Katrina, Shraddha or Jacqueline got over with the crowd because they had a mix of good luck, charm and presence. Warna there were more appealing girls than them who never made it.
See what I feel from this thread is girls are trying to make it like there is no good looking guys in BW because Indian male hate good looking male actor because we are insecure and petty.

The point is that actresses like Shraddha, Jackie and Kat manage to survive and do so well, mainly 'cause they hold the attention of the audience which has the power to influence the industry.

The female audience currently does not have the purchasing power to be able to tell the industry who/what they want to watch on screen, hence most movies cater to the male audience who actually matter (monetarily) to the film industry.

No one called the guys in this form jealous or insecure. We were talking about a general phenomenon which exists. Calling out sexism does not mean saying 'all men are sexist'.

I agree that a lot of things are connected to patriarchy but I would disagree that men's status is not affected by who they marry. It definitely is affected. If a good looking guy marries an average or ugly woman, people *will* look down on him. Even other girls will ask why he is with her.

Men are supposed to be the providers (patriarchy affects everyone) so them marrying some woman for money or social status actually makes them look worse. The worst thing for a guy is to be seen as living off his wife or her family's name or money.

In traditional roles, women look for stability and power which comes from a guy being rich and successful. Men look for beauty/health so they can have good looking kids and look like the type of successful men who could attract such a pretty lady.

How can one use statistics from a study done in the West to talk about Indians living in India?

By that logic, Indian men also prefer white women to Indian women.
