The difference in this case is that Kashi is not a Meera type Chandramukhi...she is Bajirao's first wife...right there in the face and not easy to "ignore" to appreciate the "epic" lowe story going on on the side😆...and PC's solid screen space and acting chops further elevate the character.

But then these days ppl think DP is outdoing RK also so PC kya cheez hai😆

I get the famous-casting-to-get-bigger-draw/scale motive, but like you said, the eventual dynamic is very different if we compare Devdas to BM...actually flipped in fact. Paro is to Kashi (1st woman) what Chandramukhi is to Mastani (2nd woman)...problem arises when you consider that Deepika is no Madhuri. Madhuri toh even made a role of a courtesan come across as sympathetic, alluring and wise. Deepika looks like a pubescent teenage boy under all that white face make-up, costume jewelry and tents masquerading as clothes. Even just considering appearances and disregarding the solid acting skill like you said, it's so hard to believe the entire thing...

Just as in Devdas, after so many years we remember it as a SRK Aish film but Madhuri performance killed it. Here BM will be remembered as a RS and DP film but PC will kill it.

PC tried hard from a long time to convince people about her role, else all would be thinking she is just a flower pot.

Deepika has very undiscovered scenes in the film which are not promoted. Audience will love them. I dont demote DP. Kashis most scenes have been promoted. But those few scenes, PC just killed it. and that Pinga, ? Dps flwas were showing all the time. They shud have known that the story is showing Mastani as a dancer and not Kashi, whereas Kashi danced better than Mastani

I agree...the dynamic is indeed flipped in that sense...but for the sake of the story they are selling here, Kashi eventually ends up becoming the Chandramukhi in her one-sided love and the third wheel in the love story...cuz at the end of the day Devdas loved Paro while Chandramukhi worshipped Devdas...similarly seems like Bajirao loves Mastani while Kashi worships Bajirao.

The main point is that there is questionable morality at play here...they haven't just shown Bajirao's dynamic with his first wife to be one of obligation or a forced marriage...there is affection there b/w him and Kashi and then you bring in the other woman who is supposedly this guy's soulmate...Devdas didn't travel these complicated paths. To further complicated matters, we do not have actors of that calibre or screen presence in this cast...

SLB should avoid giving these limerick type dialogues to DP cuz she sounds toneless reciting them...he used the same trope in Devdas also but it was delivered better, especially by the likes of Madhuri...here it just ends up looking artificial...there were similar silly dialogues in RL too I recall...but again that was a fictitious universe so Bhansali took liberties...this is history and he's trying to make the characters melodramatic in their dialogue-baazi😆

Sorry about the ramble...but coming back to the point...I think it's all credit to PC here that she is bringing a tremendous amount of nuance to her role even if it's the supporting one...when an actor can STEAL a movie from the main players, that says it all about an actor's calibre...this is what PC has evolved to...she has that fire in her.

Will Priyanka Chopra steal the show from Deepika Padukone in 'Bajirao Mastani'?

Is it just a mere coincidence that days ahead of the release of Bajirao Mastani, where the clash between warrior-lovers Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone is destined to happen, a new song 'Albela sajan aayo re' from the film shows Priyanka Chopra dazzling us with her vivacious dancing?

Screengrab of Priyanka Chopra from the song of 'Albela Sajan' of Bajirao Mastani. YouTube

The song is filmed in sublimely saturated colours of joy and ecstasy, and is a celebration of home-coming. The wife breaks into a dance of rejoicing as her warrior-husband returns. The song is in the tradition of Lata Mangeshkar's 'Ghar aaya mera pardesi' from Aawara or Kavita Krishnamoorthy's 'Mera piya ghar aaya' from Yaaraana.
Priyanka's expressions of ebullience are incredibly infectious. So far we've seen very little of her in the film, but could that be changing?

In the first song 'Deewani mastani' Deepika Padukone took center stage as the woman, who seduces the warrior-ruler with her dancing. Priyanka had just one shot to herself where she looks down at the scene below of her husband's keen interest in another woman.

In that one shot, Priyanka's expression of tragic grace was exceptional. Then came the controversial 'Pinga' song wherein Priyanka completely outdanced Deepika.

And now in the 'Albela sajan aayo re' song and dance, she is a portrait of feminine finesse and spousal pride.

So the question to ask is, will Priyanka Chopra prove to be the scene-stealer in Bajirao Mastani, even though she doesn't have an author-backed title role? It has happened in the past that an actress has stolen up on her prominent co-stars and walked away with the praise.

In Yash Chopra's Daag the entire focus of interest was on the tried-and-tested Rajesh Khanna-Sharmila Tagore pair. But it was Raakhee who got all the acclaim and the awards.

Is Priyanka all set to do a Raakhee Gulzar on Deepika? We shall have the answer in just a few days.

That about sums it up😆 From the moment the trailers have released, PC has managed to either steal the scenes or make her mark in as little as a single shot...that is powerful stuff

Even though the title is all B and M, Kashi has a big role. And I think PC was perfect. She's suppose to be less beautiful than Mastani and PC is so extremely beautiful that's the only drawback. But in terms of have that grace, demeanor, performance value, and star power--PC is the only one that can match up to Deepika's Mastani. Plus, all 3 leads are getting massively good reviews even without the actually film releasing. I think SLB made the perfect choices.

If the great SK.Jha reversed DP and PC in the article I can see some 20 people calling him Deepika's PR in IF. He was even called her PR recently for a Tamasha related article but now that the article by him is written for PC...its all cool he is being honest and a man we all love today. 😆
