Rakesh Bedi has weighed in on the ongoing debate around Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, while also making a pointed remark that many linked to Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.
In a recent interaction, the actor was asked whether Aditya Dhar’s film could be seen as propaganda. Responding to the claim, Bedi kept his focus on audience reaction. He said the Ranveer Singh starrer is being accepted widely, adding that this response matters more than labels.
“I don’t believe in politics. I think it’s the cinema… Everybody has the right to like or dislike a film. But I don’t think it’s right to put a film into some kind of a category… That it’s pro establishment or anti establishment. The verdict is that people are loving it,” Bedi told NDTV.
He further referred to recent political films while explaining his point. “Recently, there was a film on Indira Gandhi and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, these films didn’t run for even two days. Dhurandhar’s writing, screenplay is great. People haven’t seen a film of this scale being mounted ever,” he added.
The actor also spoke about the strong theatrical response the film is currently witnessing. According to him, the buzz had started even before release and has now translated into footfall. He noted that discussions around the film have only increased.
“The expectations were already on the cards, and now they are out. Everybody is talking about the film very highly. So many shows are going on round the clock now,” he said.
Calling the response unusual, Bedi added, “This is a mad frenzy which is going on. I’ve never seen something like this in my career at least. Many people have not seen this kind of a frenzy, madness, and euphoria for a film.”
Meanwhile, the film has also recorded a massive start at the box office. It reportedly crossed the ?100 crore net mark in a single day, marking a rare opening for a Hindi release.
The story continues from the first part, set after Rehman Dakait’s death in Lyari. It follows a high risk mission linked to national security, with Singh’s character navigating threats and uncovering deeper layers of conflict.
