What to believe?
This week, Kabir Khan's Phantom takes to screens and last week's releases All Is Well and Manjhi: The Mountain Man open for their second week, along with Brothers, which opens for its third week.
All Is Well had a disastrous first weekend with only Rs 11.91 crore in the kitty, which left no hope for the weekdays to follow. The film collected a meagre Rs 2.10 crore on Monday, followed by declining numbers with Rs 1.90 crore on Tuesday, Rs 1.51 crore on Wednesday and Rs 1.30 crore on Thursday. The film has a domestic total of Rs 18.72 crore from its first week, which leaves no room for growth in the week to follow. The film may not even cross Rs 25 crore in its lifetime, which is a disappointment.
Manjhi: The Mountain Man made Rs 6.45 crore over the weekend and collections remained steady through the week too. The film only faced a 35% drop on Monday with Rs 1.10 crore, followed by Rs 1.02 crore on Tuesday and Rs 1 crore on both Wednesday and Thursday. The film has managed to collect Rs 10.57 crore at the end of the first week and anything in the range of 13-15 crore will be a great result for the niche film.
Karan Malhotra's Brothers notched a poor second week after opening with a bang. The film collected Rs 1 crore on its second Monday and collections were consistent through the week. The film currently has a domestic total of Rs 82.05 crore, but good overseas business made sure that the overall collections have crossed Rs 100 crore, with Rs 18.77 crore in international collections.
In the face of the poor performance at the ticket windows last week, Phantom faces next to no competition at the box-office as All Is Well and Manjhi fail to entice the audiences. The Kabir Khan film has expectations set high because of the subject as well as the superlative success of the director's last release, Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Theatres witness 20% occupancies in mass sectors and 25% in urban sectors during the opening shows and there is potential for growth in collections from the evening shows onwards. The film can also stand to benefit from the holiday this weekend on account of Raksha Bandhan. With mixed reviews coming in, let's see how the film performs in its first weekend as it can go either way at this moment.
