Fantastic interview! I love the way Anand and Himanshu talk...especially Anand toh has such a PYARA way of talking...you can just keep on listening all day...lol
And this interview reflects the very intelligent, perceptive and HONEST minds behind this film...the fact that Himanshu's scripts literally INCLUDE the music and songs as he writes them...no wonder the music never jars in their movies...I loved that about Raanjhanaa too...rarely do the songs of a movie flow so seamlessly in with everything else in it.
I loved Anand talking about the rickshaw scene...it instantly touched my heart in the film too...and again the fact that without saying a lot, they managed to convey so many things...an old friendship, class differences and as Anand very well said, it showed the SUM of Tanu's character...this wild child, immature, crazy girl in many ways at that moment showed what a big HEART she has...not for a second blinking about class differences, instantly embracing an old friend...ofcourse her EGO is very much on display as well when she asks him if he ever missed her😆...and she never hears his "no"😆...but the point they made there was lovely...and the bittersweet quality to the scene...Anand talking about how that scene was very personal to him cuz of his father was lovely too.
And Himanshu was so very right about the "Main pehle bhi pyar mein pad chuka hoon, Tanu...nahin Kusum" scene...that is indeed the sum of the film...that and the moment right after that when Kusum asks him to put his hand on her cheek and say it like he means it...Madhavan was so BRILLIANT with his expressions there as he thinks of Tanu and the way he reaches out and puts his hand on Kusum's cheek.
I love the idea behind "Old School Girl"...so smartly as Himanshu said they managed to both build up as well as end the romance in a sense...a perfect montage with the lyrics conveying the characteristics of both the character and the feelings she is going through during this phase.
But all this aside, Himanshu ne dil jeet liya in the last 5 minutes when he spoke about that biryani-khichdi-pulaao analogy...lol in that moment you know very well that THIS is the mind behind all these wonderful films😆...such a simple yet powerful point he made..."Itni mehengi toh 2 ghante ki khushi nahin ho sakti ki Rs. 250 mein bhi na mile"👏
And that essential point about making something with HONESTY...so interesting that Dibaker said the very same thing during DBB promotions too...but I loved how Anand rounded out this point and said that not just in FILMS, try applying that in REAL LIFE and THEN see the rewards👏👏😆
