Dolly Ki Doli Review - A con fake cinema

IndiaGlitz [Friday, January 23, 2015]

What is it all about?

A con fake cinema where a tall and beautiful Sonam Kapoor dumps the rich dullahs all over but not a single proper picture of the shaadi'.. Dolly Ki Doli comes with such wisdom.

Even after some mild amusements and complete commitment of the actors to pack a punch Dolly Ki Doli' is a mismatch. While conning the dulha and his family with milk on Suhag Raat' be it a ganne ke khet obsessed Haryanvi Raju (Rajkummar) or a typical Punjabi staying in saddi Delhi - Manjot (Varun) has some amusing moments creating a lol promise but the unconvincing back story to this Looteri Dulhan' glory spoils all the fun.

Ironically Dolly Ki Doli' due to this mismatch finds itself in a tricky situation it is forced to rely more on the holiday mood and generosity of the audience for favorable returns rather than the content.

The Story

Dolly (Sonam) is tall and beautiful con women. Part of a well organized gang that consist of a up to date papa ( Joshi), a brother (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub) - the target hunter. A gharelu maa and a type cast dadi who utters only a single line Beti De Di Sab Kuch De Diya'.

Dolly and his gang of chors family cast their spell on the target dulha and his family. Gets married and on the wedding night drugs the family with dhoodh and flees with the loot.

But the loot on Manjot (Varun) turns suicidal. Meanwhile, Robin Singh (Pulkit) is tracking down this case and we get to know some personal connection between the cop and this con woman Dolly.

Umashankar Singh and Abhishek Dogra keep it simple during the first half but sadly during the second when the back story starts they suddenly get con' for ideas.

What to look out for

First half is simple and has some amusing moments. Sonam Kapoor is marvelous in the role. She is terrific. Dolly's Dulhas - Rajkumar, Varun and the cop Pulkhit do their part with complete honesty and try to pack a punch.

The supporting cast do a competent job Joshi, Mohammed, Archana Puran Singh al are good in their parts.

What not

Another example of a debutant filmmaker having a concept getting a start but screwing it in the end. The flaws are glaring. In this age of smart phones and slick wheels we have a Looteri Dulhan' dumping Dulhas all over and still no one bothers to click this tall hot and happening chick in his latest pixel camera.. it must be reminded that this looteri dulhan' even meets her target outside and still no click. Can anyone explain this..

Conclusion: 'Dolly Ki Doli' is a con gone wrong. Watch it at your own risk.

Dolly Ki Doli Review & Rating - A lady makes men fool

Story:

Dolly Ki Doli revolves around Dolly played by Sonam Kapoor who fools men with her beauty. She makes the men to fall in love with her and she gets married to them and runs away with all the money the next morning.

Dolly fools the men with pre-plan and she works with a gang who never caught to anybody. She meets various boys like Sonu Sarawat (Rajkummar Rao) and Manoj Singh Chadda (Varun Sharma) whom she married and made them fool by robbing all the valuable things they had.

A police case has been filed on Dolly and inspector, Robin Singh (Pulkit Sharma) was appointed to deal her. Now the twist in the tale is Robin and Dolly was related in the past. What is Robin and Dolly's relation? Will Robin be able to catch Dolly and the gang? Forms the rest of the movie.

Artistes' Performance:

Sonam Kapoor looks beautiful and she has improved a lot acting wise. Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma entertained the audiences very well and the dance number by Rajkummar is outstanding. Pulkit Sharma looks handsome and his Haryanvi accent is excellent.

Plus Points:

The major plus point of Dolly Ki Doli is its duration, the movie runs about only 100 minutes. There is no chance of getting bored as the film starts and finishes within a small time space. The movie is quite interesting.

Minus Points:

The second half of the film is ridiculous and the story eventually loses its grip. The climax is silly and predictable. Characters Rajkkumar, Varun and Zeeshan are completely wasted in the film as there is no scope for acting. Saif's cameo is wasted completely.

Analysis:

Director Abhishek Dogra failed to entertain the audiences throughout the movie. Only the first half is interesting, the second half is confusing. The songs are fine, especially Malliaka's item number, and are placed well in the plot. Editing is just okay.

Verdict:

Dolly Ki Doli is decent watch film...

Dolly Ki Doli movie review: This Sonam Kapoor film is just a one-time watch!

By Snehal Rajani @Snehal_Rajani | January 23, 2015 12:30 PM | comment
Tags: Dolly Ki Doli, Dolly Ki Doli film review, Dolly Ki Doli movie review, Dolly Ki Doli review

Abhishek Dogra's Dolly Ki Doli starts with Malaika Arora Khan's hot item number Fashion khatam mujhpe when the principle character of Dolly (Sonam Kapoor) is getting hitched to Sonu Sehrawat (Rajkummar Rao). So what is the story and how does it fare? Read our review to find out.

Story of Dolly Ki Doli

Sonu is head-over-heels in love with Dolly and is hell-bent on getting married to her. Somehow he manages to convince his parents for the marriage. Immediately on the next day of marriage, Sonu wakes up only to find his beautiful bride missing. The family soon realises that they have been conned.

The looteri dulhan and her team do the same thing with every dulha until the police starts to look for them. While Dolly and her gang are on a conning spree', police officer Robin Singh (Pulkit Samrat) gets involved and leads the investigation in the hunt for Dolly. Meanwhile, Dolly and her team decide to got to Udaipur where Robin's chase finally ends and Dolly is caught red-handed. Soon the gang's activities are exposed.

But there's a twist in the tale, as it turns out that Robin and Dolly too had a past - this turn to the story makes Dolly look like the ultimate conwoman.' Overall, the story of Dolly Ki Doli is exciting at the start but the movie gets boring after the interval.

Music of Dolly Ki Dolly

The songs are extremely mediocre, except the beautiful Mere naina kafir hogaye. Apart from that, all songs are strictly average! (READ: Dolly Ki Doli music review: Extremely mediocre songs in much-hyped Sonam Kapoor film)

Performances in Dolly Ki Dolly

All you girls out there, Sonam Kapoor's wedding outfits are to die for! Otherwise, Sonam looks somewhat similar to how she looked in her last outing Khoobsurat. Her expressions too are the same as in some of her previous movies.

Archana Puran Singh, who essays the character of the third male lead's mother (Varun Sharma as Manpreet), fits the bill perfectly in the role of a dominating, loud Punjabi mom. As for the men, well, with that moustache and police uniform, Pulkit looks killer in Dolly Ki Doli. Varun, who plays a mama's boy, is good in his role.

The supporting actors have done a commendable job, especially Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub (who played Dhanush's friend Murari in Raanjhanaa).

Spoiler

While everyone expected Salman Khan to do a cameo in Dolly Ki Doli, being producer Arbaaz Khan's superstar brother, it is actor Saif Ali Khan who surprised us with a special appearance.

Verdict

All in all, you will have a good laugh at the jokes in Dolly Ki Doli, but the film fails to catch attention otherwise.

Sonam kapoor, Dolly Ki Doli The film has an overpowering Haryanvi-Punjabi vibe, so you need to keep your ears peeled.
Written by Shubhra Gupta | New Delhi | Posted: January 23, 2015 1:05 pm

A comely young thing ensnares unsuspecting young men, leads them on, and decamps with everything : broken hearts, hurt egos and wedding loot. Dolly Ki Doli' has a great idea, and starts off well, but then falls into a familiar trap- of a single-track leading lady piloting a half-baked plot.

Dolly ( Kapoor), pronounced Doleee by her lovelorn beau ( Rao), who is not a miss goody-two-shoes and who wants to be her own person, should have been a Bollywood triumph. It's so hard to get films toplining heroines, and even harder for them to find the right story to do so. Kapoor is in almost every frame, and should have filled them all. But the plotting and the treatment of the character shows up Kapoor's limitations : she is good-natured, but not versatile.

The con is conducted with an eye on detail, but one cries out to be challenged. Dolly comes in carrying a potion on her 'suhaagraat', said drink which has the power to provide deeper shut eye than is natural. In goes the liquid, out come the snores, and off goes the bride. First time, funny haha, but many times over, plain tiresome.

The film has an overpowering Haryanvi-Punjabi vibe, so you need to keep your ears peeled ( and protected, when it comes to the shrieky Puran Singh). The best of the ensemble is Rao, who does wet-eyed dolefulness brilliantly. So is Ayyub, whom the film doesn't know what to do with. He is left trailing. Samrat and Sharma make up the rest of the gaggle of guys-who-woo Dolly : the former plays a cop who knows a secret, and the latter wants her to put out, but both are bland.

Ultimately, Dolly Ki Doli' is neither biting social comment, nor unfettered fun.http://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/movie-review/dolly-ki-doli-review-starts-off-well-but-then-falls-into-a-familiar-trap/

Dolly Ki Doli movie review: Sonam Kapoor's latest entertainer is the new age women-centric film you can't afford to miss!

Dolly Ki Doli movie review: Sonam Kapoor's latest entertainer is the new age women-centric film you can't afford to miss!

Sonam Kapoor plays a con-tastic looteri dulhan in this one. Read on to know what I thought of Arbaaz Khan's latest offering...

After the gigantic success of Dabangg and Dabangg 2, Arbaaz Khan had the Herculean task on his shoulders to give the audiences an entertainer that could beat his previous records. Did his latest movie deliver? Read on to find out...

What's it about

Sonam Kapoor is Dolly, the looteri dulhan who is out to get every rich and horny bachelor in town. She operates with a team of confidantes who pretend to be her family helping her carry out all the scam weddings and the loot thereafter! Pulkit Samrat plays Robin Singh, the cop who has been assigned the case of this looteri bride and he is on her trail, willing to go to any lengths to find her and put her in jail! Rajkummar Rao is Sonu Shehrawat and Varun Sharma plays Manjot, both of them are the innocuous, foolish yet adorable dulhas who get ripped by Dolly. After being cheated by their dulhan, the two with Robin's help try to pin down the con woman. But do they succeed? You'll have to watch the film to find that out!

What's hot

When Arbaaz Khan promised his fans a fun, entertaining comic ride, he worked hard to deliver. Casting Sonam as the con runaway bride was a good decision as she was true to the part she played. Rajkummar and Varun bring two very different characters to the table and their performances work brilliantly in tandem. Pulkit's character of the slick cop is designed on the lines of Salman Khan's character in the Dabangg franchise; a part he plays earnestly and makes his own! Special mention to Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub and Archana Puran Singh as without their performances DKD wouldn't worked like a smooth running machine. The casting director of Dolly Ki Doli has done a spectacular job. I loved how the songs moved the story forward, not block it awkwardly. The writing by Umashankar Singh is fresh, witty and it never gets boring. Abhishek Dogra gives a decent directorial debut but there is scope for improvement. The best thing about DKD is the climax, it is unconventional, you do not see it coming. It unpredictability makes you feel satisfied after you walk out of the theatre. The crisp run-time of DKD works in its favour.

What's not

Although the film is a breezy entertainer that never leaves you bored, the story-telling could have been tighter. Like Saif Ali Khan's cameo in the film; it didn't fit in the script of the film and Saif was too corny for the part he played even though it was that of a Prince. I would have loved to see Salman in a cameo. Sonam acts her part well but in certain situations I wanted an actress of higher caliber to be Dolly. The moral of this story is a little problematic even though it makes for a nice twist but you will understand that only after you have seen the film.

What to do

If you want to begin the coming long weekend on a fun note, don't miss this film!http://www.bollywoodlife.com/news-gossip/dolly-ki-doli-movie-review-sonam-kapoors-latest-entertainer-is-the-new-age-women-centric-film-you-cant-afford-to-miss/

Dolly Ki Doli' review: Rajkummar Rao steals the show in fun-filled film

Dolly Ki Doli' prod

uced by Arbaaz Khan and directed by Abhishek Dogra is among those films, which have women as their protagonist. And in this film, we have Sonam Kapoor playing Dolly, the "looter bahu".

It was evident from the trailer that Dolly is a "dulhan" who loots her husbands' families and elopes with her accomplices (comprising of a fake father, mother, brother, photographer and a Pandit). And Sonam Kapoor as Dolly befits the character, thanks to her drop-dead gorgeous appearance.

It's her beauty that catches her preys off guard. And she has a devout gang that hatches plots to con many more prospective grooms.

The film begins with Dolly and Sonu Sherawat's (Rajkummar Rao) romance. A love-struck cane farmer from Haryana falls head-over-heels for this beauty and wants to make her his better half. The only son of his parents, Sonu convinces them to accept Dolly as their Bahu. And as they say "marriages are made in heaven", Sonu and Dolly get married but sadly do not remain happy ever after!

Dolly executes her well-chalked out plan and flees with her gang to con yet another family. And when the Sherawat's wake up in the morning after being made to drink drugged milk the previous night, they realise they have been duped by their "bahu".

Sonu, who is badly smitten by Dolly's love bug, tries to file a complaint with the police to look for his "missing" wife.

In the meanwhile, Robin Singh (Pulkit Samrat), a police inspector has been entrusted with the responsibility of solving "Looteri Dulhan's" case.

But Dolly is hardly perturbed. It's her business to dupe men and rob them off all their belongings. She reaches Delhi and finds another rich boy Manjot, whose family is planning to get him married. She succeeds in making him fall in love with her and ties the knot with him. But little does Dolly know that she has a surprise in store for her.

As an actor, Sonam seems to be evolving with every film she is a part of. But she has lots more work to do to display her acting prowess. Pulkit Samrat is good as the "cupid-struck" cop and Varun Sharma is cute.

Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub as Sonam's fake brother is brilliant and veteran actor Manoj Joshi too needs a special mention. For an actor of his calibre, playing a conman is no big challenge.

But the one who will sweep you off your feet is Rajkummar Rao. If you ever thought he isn't meant for thumkas and latkas, then you were miserably wrong. This man is not just an actor par excellence but a very good dancer too! Wish he had some more screen time. And here's a wolf-whistle for his typical Haryanvi accent.

Music is average and doesn't add much to the storyline.

Dogra has done well to deliver a fun film that will challenge your logical reasoning. The film's duration is a big plus, for we rarely have crisp Bollywood films that can entertain us in a short span of time.

Overall, despite glitches that test your sense of logic and actuality, Dolly Ki Doli' comes across an entertaining film.

Dolly Ki Doli' Review: Sonam Kapoor sizzles in comedy drama

Published by S Ranjita in Bollywood
Added on: January 23, 2015

The Hindi movie "Dolly Ki Doli" starring Sonam Kapoor was released in India and across the world on Friday, Jan. 23, 2014.

Directed by Abhishek Dogra, the movie is a romantic comedy, where a girl named Dolly, played by Sonam Kapoor, will be looting young men after tempting them into marriage.

Apart from Sonam Kapoor, the film also stars Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma and Rajkummar Rao in pivotal parts.

In what seems like a total laugh riot, "Dolly Ki Doli" is being produced by Arbaaz Khan under his production company, Arbaaz Khan Productions.

The film has songs by Sajid- Wajid, while Malaika Arora Khan will be seen in special number.

In terms of box office, the movie is expected to do decent business, given that it has been made on a small budget.

According to a report in KoiMoi, the screen count of "Dolly Ki Doli" is approximately 1600-1700, which is good considering that the movie is aimed at the multiplexes.

Going by the pre-release buzz, which is rather good, the film should make a good weekend.

The 1st day collections of "Dolly Ki Doli" should be anywhere between Rs 6 to 9 crores. If the film manages to gross more than 25 crores on the weekend, the producers should be happy with the collections.

The movie will also have to compete with another big release of the week, "Baby", which stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role and is touted to be a high octane drama.

Keep an eye here for more updates on "Dolly Ki Doli" box office collections.

Dolly Ki Doli Opening Occupancies :: Washout
2015-01-23 14:54:010News
Dolly Ki Doli has taken disastrous opening in morning shows as most places are running empty house.. Movie has opened to mere 5-7% which is one of worst ever start in recent years for movie releasing in over 1000 screens..

Movie is only running over 10% in East Punjab else where it's below 10%.. Movie is all dependant on the growth but with Baby already there it's growth will be limited..

Opening is much lower from Khoobsurat which had similar release scenario last year as Khoobsurat had opened to around 15%..

Dolly Ki Doli Has Poor Opening Friday 23 January 2015 14.00 IST

Box office India Trade Network

Dolly Ki Doli has opened to a poor response of around 5-10% on average. The collections in places like Gujarat, UP, Maharashtra are extremely low but some properties in the North are a bit better t 15-20%.

The film was always going to dependent on growth and it remains to seen what growth it can achieve. It will show an improvement as collections are so low but there is competition from Baby which could curtail the growth.

The opening numbers suggest a lower opening day total than a similar film Khoobsurat released a few months
