That's what I'd discussed earlier. Akshay did everything from being this ideal husband, son-in-law, to a self made man from nowhere, pleased Punjabis and Sikhs, supported sports (lesser known ones like Karate and Kabaddi), showed off his chef "skills", had his story of struggle, fitness icon, stunts guy/daredevil image, did a lot of charity, ideal dad, ideal son kind of image. Still why couldn't he earn much connect? He has connect but not like that of other stars. Even now he gave pro-women statements, gave both his and Twinkle's surnames to his daughter and said females should be taught self defense. He had girls participate and win in his Karate championship too. Got honorary doctorate from a Canadian university. Supported Special Olympics and all. Had this hype of highest tax payer. He even brought out an album of kirtan (Sikhs' hymns).

Still none of it translated into a a change of his fortunes at BO or perception as a star. No yearly top grosser. No ATBB at all. Though he quite popular online (at least more than Aamir).

I'm curious to see if Special 26 and OUATIM2 change anything for him.

Khan fans need not laugh. Akshay does have a comparatively cleaner record compared to Khans. He didn't go to jail ever or had cases against him or public brawls or disowned illegitimate kids hidden in London. Nor did he speak or write nasty blogs/jokes against contemporaries. Though he was a lady killer in 90s before marriage.

I hope things change for him.. and Yes I've met Akshay so he is a very nice person.. and not just me I guess we read about Akki in the have you met any star thread on this forum and everybody had good things to say about him..

Yeah. But that's what we're discussing here! What's the reason he couldn't even manage a yearly top grosser (let alone ATBB) despite all things he did?

It's surprising how Khans (esp Salman/Aamir) gave ATBBs despite suffering bad phases for years!

Just checked BOI. Jigar and Diljale were in top 10 grossers. But Akshay Kumar's career picked up a lot after 1994 and his Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi was bigger than Diljale. But Ajay did take a lead over Akshay from 1997.
