I saw this article today morning where Bipasha is blaming Maddy for Jodi Breakers flopping which got me thinking.
We have had many women who started off their movie careers in South India or women of South Indian origin make a mark in BW and even rule it as queen bees. Examples being Hema Malini, Rekha, Jaya Prada, Sridevi, Aishwarya, Deepika. But while Indians and South Asians appreciate the beauty and talent of these women I was wondering why havent South Indian men been able to make a mark in Bollywood. The biggest south Indian superstars like Rajnikanth and Chiranjeevi tried their luck without much success. Mahesh Babu was slated to make his debut but nothing has been heard of it. Rana Daggubati was a disappointment but he will be back in a RGV film. Madhavan is doing much better films in the south than BW eventhough he is the most successful South Indian male star in BW. The newest ones to try their luck are Malayalam superstar Prithviraj, Dhanush and apparently Ram Charan Tej. But mostly south stars shy away from doing Hindi movies.
Earlier the lack of success of South Indian stars was attributed to them not looking 'North Indian' ie Dharmendra type tall, fair types. But is the reason only skin deep? Afterall we have stars like SRK and Ajay Devgan who are not conventionally good looking.
Edit add: Bips and Maddy clarified there are no hard feelings between them.

Exact reason i dont know so just assuming

Till sometimes back I think there was a misconception abt south indian actors that they r mucchar ( moustache) , they r old, they r short , Not good looking etc etc etc thats why Rajnikant , nagarjun etc didnt make it , but their few good movies has worked ...its juts ppl never accepted them in typical lead roles , a hero who sings with heroine around the tree , action etc

Then BW movie's biggest main market is north india and wast , middle india , east india but Not south india ...they prefer their own language movies ...so first i think producers dont take risk by casting south indian actors in main lead they prefer good looking , tall kinda guys who can click in these parts of india , then ajy devgan kinds who very much click with North Indian audience or east west audience ...donnu may be its bcz he is frm north 😕

but its not no south indian ever clicked ...Suneil Shetty made it ...

so may be who is BW actor, clicks...who comes into BW after doing south movies doesn't click

madhvan now looks fat and i didnt like his look in jodi breaker ...he was amazing in RDB

then there r good looking south indians like Siddharth who cld have make it in BW but they never took interest , they preferred their own language movies when they had fans all over india , he never cared for his non-south fans ...now its too late for him to make it into BW

Yep...even if they get a break like Siddharth got from RDB they say they want to focus on both South and BW and eventually lose focus from BW. What really scares them? Fear of rejection? Or its too difficult to start all over again in another industry?

depends on actors willing too.
And to be precise y would they wanna try to test their luck when they are equally enjoying the star status like BW actors(Specially telugu n tamil stars).
Tw has world class market and production values are no less than BW also they have got thick loyality in their regions.

bipasha is the clear reason why jodi breakers flopped...and if maddy is responsible how Tanu Weds Manu became a hit ? jodi breakers was itself a bad movie someone tell bipasha this plz...she can't act

but yeah madhavan was also bad...reminded me how he looked in RHTDM...the worst scene tht how he was asked to KISS by the bartender ewww man

Well, i think its the "looks" thing...also, most of them are not totally comfortable with the language so their dialogue delivery gets effected too i believe..i mean, sridevi n hema malini still have heavy SI accents in their hindi even after having worked here for years...

Plus, i think they like to focus more on one particular film industry and be the master of tht instead of being jack of all trades sort of a thing...
Also, the kind of adulation tht some ppl like rajniknath have down the south is huge..Ppl like rana daggubati, mahesh babu, ram charan etc are star sons and they inherited their dad's huge fanbase...so i think therz also a fear of "upsetting the fans" by doing films in other languages tht fans possibly might not get the opportunity to see...

I recently saw this interview of mahesh babu and they were asking him if he was interested in bollywood and he flatout said tht he cannot imagine himself anywhere else apart from the telugu industry and wants to focus his entire energy in making better films/better roles in tht language...he apparently even declined an offer for mani ratnam's next (in tamil) sighting the same reason...

I think they just want to work in languages and industries they are most comfortable in. Like surya only works in tamil...his films get dubbed in other languges...Mahesh babu only works in telugu...prithvi majorly works in malyalam although hes done some tamil movies here n there...each reigon has its own brand of cinema, and i think they are comfortable catering to those discourses.

^^^What is this fanbase? Do families generations after generations swear loyalty to different generations of stars of the same family?

Mahesh is such a damn hot guy...but his name 'mahesh babu' seems he is like mohanlal or chiranjeevi or any other south indian actor...

currently, from there surya is my favourite when i first saw rakht charitra 2 then i saw his many dubbed movies from south, i dont think anyone can force him to work here, but he should do some movies here as well...would love to see him do a rom-com.

Urm yes...😆

Therz a loyal fanbase for each film family...the Akkininies (ANR, Nagarjuna, naga chaitanya),the Ghattamenis (Krishna, Mahesh babu, recently sudhir babu), the Daggubatis (D ramanaidu, Venkatesh, Rana) the Nandamuris (NTR, Balakrishna, Jr NTR, Harikrishna blah blah) then therz Chiranjeevi's family(Ram charan teja, pawan kalyan, Allu arjun)..

Each family has their fanbase...its kinda funny...😆

Therz boards for them too...http://www.nandamurifans.com/
http://www.chiranjeeviblog.com/tag/megafans

its like people having fanclubs for The Kapoors, The bacchans or The roshans...where u love the entire family of actors/producers/directors..😆...i dunt think thts how it works in the tamil or other industries...but thts how it is in telugu...

D Ramanaidu also has a loyal fanbase? Thats news to me. How is he related to Venkatesh. Venkatesh has always appeared as the most low profile and decent star. Not sure if he too has skeletons in his cupboard.
