I saw a lot of people saying that they don't agree with the winners, but I've never seen complain about NOMINATIONS...i think the nominations are really fair and the critics are really fair too...for example Angie wouldn't get nominated for a mega hit like tomb raider, like aishu did for dhoom2 nor would any of kat's performances like nominated...so in that respect oscars nominates performances way way way above the rest...and Natalie's transformation throughout the film and those expressions were impeccable...also majority of the critics( American and foreign...SUNDANCE, anyone?) loved and praised natalie, but of course not everyone agreed with her winning but that doesn't mean she wasn't good...people have biases towards their favs...I mean we do here and our favs haven't given these mind-blowing performances like Black Swan, The Blindside, Sophie's Choice, etc.

And for all the people that complain about Sandy and Natalie winning...those performances were immensely amazing...they were not overrated like some of the people that win Filmfare...I mean it blows my mind how anyone can get nominated for a mediocre rom com b/c it made a lot of money, but Nandita Das doesn't get nominated for Earth or Fire...or Shabana Azmi not getting anything for Masoom b/c I honestly thought I was watching an early woody allen film when I saw it the first time...so go ahead and say it...Oscars and BAFTAS are far superior and WAY BETTER than FIlmfare....but Indian films and audiences are of a different culture...I think musicals are just how Indian films work and I hope people can move past the item numbers and get to some solid storylines. I mean in the last 5 years I'll seen in increase in that, but what shocks me the most is mediocre/redundant storylines becoming blockbuster successes ( i think we all know which films I'm talking about) b/c I like to think that the audience prefers variety too!

I agree! And I think there's this notion that only beautiful people and star children can be successful...I mean Gregory Peck is a legend, but his grandchildren still go to auditions and wait in line for parts like the rest of them...film directors don't come over for chai and talk it out...the process in India is so different and so bias. The same with Billy Crystal's kids and Tom Hanks' son too...Crystal and Hanks def have the money and contacts, but their children hired an agent and went about it like their fathers aren't superstars.

Also, I think average looking girls that are talented should be encouraged, but whenever I see a Freida Pinto post...the first thing I see is she's not that beautiful why is she an actress?...well I hope talent can count for something too...that mentality that only beauty equates to talent needs to be eliminated...I wanna see less beauty queens and models and more girls that have been trained in acting schools!

I disagree sweetcoco....I don't think Natile Portman's performance was mindblowing. She was average IMO. I have liked kareena in Chameli and PC in kaminey better than what Natile has done in Black Swan. And I don't think she deserved the award. Her performance seemed artificial to me...some of the scary look was given to her by the make up. She just didn't move me with her performance...it wasn't powerful enough for me. I seriously was bored....and the film someone mentioned was original...NO WAY is Black Swan original...we have seen movies like that in Hollywood before. The movie and Natile's performance is overrated....am glad the film didn't win the osars..because that would have been the biggest joke!

I think Natalie Portman was impressive in Black Swan, I thought the entire movie was incredible. I'm so glad she won at the Oscars! It was one of the very best movies I have seen last year. I remember everyone in the cinema hall was completely enamoured with Natalie and the film in general. It's like we were all in a trance. Regardless of whether the film has been inspired by similar hollywood projects or not, in my opinion, the film due to the storyplot, and the cast, can stand on its own and has done justice to the film writers vision.
Natalie Portman is way way way ahead of many of the Bollywood contemporaries. I think it's an insult to even utter the name Deepika, Kareena, Priyanka, Katrina, Sonam, Aishwarya and not just Natalie but many other hollywood actresses in the same breath. I'd like to see one of these girls play Natalie's role in a film like Black Swan. I can gaurantee everyone would die from laughter. 😆 Kareena, Deepika, Kat, Sonam, Aish, etc. are only at the top of their games today because of lack of competitors. I find them all to be mediocre actors, and more of glamour dolls at the very best. Despite being in the industry for years, these girls are still only average and unpredictable in terms of performances. I have grown up watching most of Kareena's movies, and i can honestly say she has improved some, but nowhere near enough to be considered as a serious actress. I have yet to come across a film of hers where i have found her to be astounding. There are only a very few people who come to my mind when i think of the word 'actress' and they happen to be on the lines of; Tabu, Sridevi, Madhuri, Vidya, Konkona, etc.

Maduri...really? I never considered her a great actress. I guess these things are just preferences. Because I don't think it's an insult at all to compare Natile's performance to Priyanka and Kareena or Vidya. And you mentioned these actress have been in the industry for a long time...Deepika hasn't even been in the industry for that long. And plus no one was comparing deepika to Natile.

And to me, if Priyanka and Kareena can pull off a Chameli or a Kaminey, than they can pull of a Black Swan. All they need is a body double and some make up to make them look scary. And the rest..."acting" they know how to do that already! 😉 Esp if they get directors like hollywood, and get the training that Natile got...they can def pull it off. And yes of course Vidya, Kangana, Tabu, also can pull it off.

PS when I say Natile's performance am only talking about Black Swan.

I don't think Madhuri is a flawless actress, but she has had a helping hand in moulding Bollywood into what it was during the 90's and she has given a number of memorable performances that are still remembered today; Tezaab, Parinda, Dil, Saajan, Beta, Khalnayak, Hum aap ke hai Kaun, Raja, Devdas, Anjaam etc. So yes, I think she has justified herself as an 'actress' already. I loved Kareena as 'poo' in K3G but then after a while, I realised she just wouldn't get out of 'poo' phase, and It hit me whilst I was watching main prem ki deewani hoon, that she indeed sucked as an actress. That's not to say that she hasnt improved at all .. I loved her performances in JWM and Golmaal 3. She didnt over act ( a trait she was well known for) in those films. But i still think she has a long way to go, and she is at the top today because there just aren't any good enough competitors. They're all the same. I don't like Priyanka as an actress, and I think she has a long way to go still. Fashion is a prime example. She was good in some parts, but I don't think she was convicing enough to win a national award? She still had so much scope for improvement. Heck, Kangana, left a lasting impression despite not playing the main lead.
I some how doubt a bollywood director could write a movie like Black Swan, they are still stuck in the 'krishh' phase 😆 I still doubt with a body double, and training either two could pull off black swan. Sorry, but i doubt it. I don't think its fair to take away credit from Natalie just because she happens to have had training, makeup on, (which she looked exceptional in btw) and a body double for some of the ballet scenes.
In my opinion, Kareena and Priyanka are mediocre actresses still, they have a lot of scope for improvements, but apparently according to both of their words they are already 'number 1'. Deepika will probably take another 10years to perfect her wooden plank expressions and her accent, and if she does this by say next year, i will eat my own words.

I agree with the fact that the Oscars are given way too much credibility and prestige, when lots of the winners are chosen on very biased terms. I agree with what people said about Sandra Bullock completely, she is one my most favourite actresses but I definetely dont think she deserved an Oscar. Her performance may have been HER best performance but it was not THE best performance of that cinematic year.
But I do disagree with NP not being as good as Kareena's and Vidya's........Her performace IMO was far far far superior to any performance by any Bollywood actress I've seen atleast. The maturity needed for that role, I dont think any of our actresses even have.
I'm yet to see a performance by a BW actress that can stand up to a nomination for an Oscar.
Having said that Oscars are biased and ovverated , but I still think BW awards can't even be compared to Oscars. What kind of award ceremony has
Best actor Male (Popular)
Best actor Male (Critics)
Best actor Male (Jury)
Best actor Negative Role(???)
Best actor Comic Role(???)
Best Performer (???)
Best entertainer(???)
ALL in ONE function.........Thats 7 people getting the same award basically 🤣
Actually it not even funny anymore....its just pathetic.

^ yes I agree Bollywood awards are really pathetic these days. It seems like it's getting worse every year. We won't see in hollywood performances like Kat in TMK getting awarded like we have seen this year. Even that of Kajol in MNIK...wouldn't be awarded in Hollywood.

^I agree, she got it at Screen or something for best entertainer female 😆 I mean there's no words to even describe how ridiculous that is.
I'm sure even Kat fans would agree, its nothing to even do with Kats performance in the film, its just that character role, getting an award of any kind for that character is just a complete example of how ludacris they are.
