It's not they can't, they're not JUST given the opportunity. At least most of the times...When will get to see a mature actress in a vampish character unless her name's Rekha ji...

Well, that's what I meant...why can't writers write roles like that for the women b/c we also have amazing actresses...but ppl care too much about making the big bucks so mindless masala flicks are made in abundance while more crafty films hardly ever come around!

But I agree...when you hit a certain age once leading ladies can only play ma, behen, or some evil/crazy character! So glad that's changing...slow progress, but progress nonetheless!

But can you blame these actress. In bollywood most of masala films are hits and non masala films flop. So the actress and actors in those flop films don't get recognized at awards. Okay they are given critic awards. But why not popular also?

^Good point, I'm not blaming the actresses or the writers, but it would be nice is the mentality could change...maybe ppl's def of entertainment isn't the same universally...not horror films are made in the US and European countries than India b/c the ppl prefer that genre more...so I guess that's the reason we have more masala flicks!

But it sucks b/c when there are good actresses in the industry...the writers don't take advantage of that and write good, performance-oriented scripts...but at the end of the day it's a business and money and awards are the only thing ppl care about...money more b/c if you have the money then the awards will come!

I think directors are afraid to take risks. When a great and different films like SKM goes wrong, I mean come on...who is gonna take that challenge again. Vishal is one of the best directors we have..and his film failed. And the writers and directors take note of that.

Even Guzaarish is not your typically Masla film..that failed also. And SLB is considered a great director after Devdas.

Silence of the Lambs...I think Preity Zinta did a remake of that movie. I forgot the name of the movie. Akshay and Ashutosh Rana I think was in it.

I liked the other PZ film which was about a young girl getting pregnant out of wedlock. Kya Kehna.
