Bollywood actors Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have approached the Delhi High Court with separate petitions against YouTube and its parent company Google. The move comes after the court granted them protection of their personality and publicity rights.

According to TOI, the couple is seeking damages worth $450,000 (around Rs 4 crore). They are also asking for a permanent ban on YouTube from hosting or monetising any content that misrepresents them or uses their voices, likeness or images in AI-generated deepfake material.

In their September 6 filing, the actors flagged how such content could reportedly be used to train artificial intelligence systems, multiplying instances of misuse. “Such content being used to train AI models has the potential to multiply the instances of infringing use – first being uploaded on YouTube and viewed by the public, and then also being exploited for AI training,” their petition stated. They have requested the court to ask Google to create safeguards to prevent manipulated videos from entering AI datasets.

The 1,500-page filing also names unauthorised sellers accused of profiting from their images through merchandise like posters, mugs, stickers, and even fake signed photos. According to TOI, the document contains hundreds of links and screenshots of YouTube clips marked as “egregious,” “sexually explicit,” or “fictitious.”

Some examples include videos showing “Abhishek suddenly kissing a film actress using AI manipulation” and another of Aishwarya depicted with her former co-star Salman Khan at a dinner table while Abhishek looks on angrily. These clips, reportedly first circulated on YouTube, have also spread across other social media platforms.

A channel named AI Bollywood Ishq has been highlighted in the filings for publishing “AI-generated Bollywood love stories.” With 259 videos and over 16.5 million views, one particular video showing Salman and Aishwarya in a pool has alone crossed 4.1 million views. The Delhi High Court, which heard the case last month, has asked Google’s counsel to submit written responses. The matter is now scheduled for its next hearing on January 15, 2026.
