NP's performance in Black Swan was much better than the best performance that our heroines come up with so If our top girls and her were in the running for the same award she would win by a mile for that movie. She trained for a year for that role ofcourse she needed a body double professional ballerinas have been dancing since they were toddlers - she can't get to their level in a year. But she atleast got their body language right. Do we have anyone in Bollywood who shows this type of dedication ?
I agree Oscars are overrated - its like they have a clique and the same group keeps winning.

interesting topic...I for one am a Oscars phanki for the past three years I've been watching it...and every year this topic comes up who deserved it who didnt. I am also a fan of Sandra and Natalie so maybe my opinion is biased but I think that Natalie deserved it because the role of Black Swan for so different and gusty....and as for the controversy of not dancing...that girl Sarah Lane basically just dished out because she wanted her 15 minutes of fame, the director, the co-stars everyone basically vouched for Natalie and said she did most of the dancing where as the stunt double only did the most difficult of scenes....and besides they awarded her the Oscar for her ACTING not dancing

as for Sandra winning the award....the Blind Side was by far Sandra's best performance...for her standards she was amazing in that movie....being a biased Sandy fan I will say she deserved it mainly because I did not see the other nominees movies

ok now to topic...I do agree that some of the Oscars nominations and wins are W*F but Bollywood just takes the cake....there is just no justification of awards anymore... if you're famous you win an award...if your movie does huge business you win an award...which is not the case with the Oscars...even the Golden Globes....they actually award some worthy movies/people like Kate Winslet Christoph Waltz, Social Network (DAMN amazing movie), Colin Firth, Kathryn Bigelow etc

another reason why I think that the Oscars have gone a bit skewed with their results is their striving approach to appeal to the youth, hence Anne Hatahway and James Franco were hosts, Sandra Bullock and Natalie Portman won (they're termed as America's sweethearts) and also movies like Avatar was nominated for best picture.....and another thing I appreciate about the Oscars and the Golden Globes is that they don't go by the standard of Bollywood, hit=awards....if that was the case...Twilight,Transformers etc would have won for the past 3 years

I have to disagree here. I don't know what people consider deserving anymore. Natalie did an amazing job as a dancer and as an actress in the movie. At the end of the movie, I was scared the way her eyes were and how her legs was breaking. I don't think the top actresses right now can deliver a natural performance without overacting.....and than dance great at the same time. She was perfect
she deserved that award. That movie deserved attention because it was original

Don't hate me for saying this but Oscars almost always goes to Jews... Either its the movie made by a Jew or acted by one...

If you look at the history of Oscar winners - most wins are WWII..

And NP was fantastic in Black Swan and defin will deserved... BTW she is a Jew

😆 Lol....there's a pretty simple explanation for that. Jews=rich. Hollywood producers=rich. All the funding comes from the Jews. Most of the big shot Hollywood head honchos are Jews. So ofcourse. 😆

@Phoenix: Have not watched the blind side yet, it did not really intrigue me. Will let ya know once I do.

Okay, I'm one of those people who think that Natalie did not deserve the oscar. But her acting is no way comparable to any of Kareena or PC's recent performances.

I second you! Natalie may not have been the best, but I think her performance in Black Swan was far superior than any performance and I mean ANY performance by BW actresses....yes Kareena, PC< Aishu, Kajol, Vidya....all of them!

Oscars may not made the best choices at times, but still way better than BW b/c unlike BW...Oscars don't give out 6 best actor awards and create lame categories everyday year...and one doesn't get an award for being a Bachchan, part of the Yash Raj camp, or being in a super hit film and having a mediocre role!

Hmm..Natalie may not have deserved an Oscar for Black Swan, but to say Kareena, Priyanka, Vidya, etc have acted better than NP is a stretch IMO.

Oscars have their W*F moments, but BW awards are a complete joke.

regarding Natalie's involvement in Black Swan, found and article:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aronofsky Ends Portman Dance Argument!

First, let's recap a bit.

There were rumors that Natalie Portman barely did any dancing for Black Swan. Her beau and trainer then stepped in and supported her with an 85% pro-Natalie claim.

Next, Natalie's dance double rocks the boat with a bold statement that Portman only performed 5% of the dancing seen, and says she was told to keep quiet about it.

After that, producers of the film came out and supported the pro-Natalie movement. Mila even flexed her reinforcement.

Now, after all of this, the director Darren Aronofsky himself lays down the knowledge with very specific statistics of what actually is going on behind the dancing in Black Swan.

Here's it is, in full, so there is no confusion any more: Read the rest of this entry Read the rest of this entry Read the rest of this entry

"Here is the reality. I had my editor count shots. There are 139 dance shots in the film. 111 are Natalie Portman untouched. 28 are her dance double Sarah Lane. If you do the math that's 80% Natalie Portman. What about duration? The shots that feature the double are wide shots and rarely play for longer than one second. There are two complicated longer dance sequences that we used face replacement. Even so, if we were judging by time over 90% would be Natalie Portman.

And to be clear Natalie did dance on pointe in pointe shoes. If you look at the final shot of the opening prologue, which lasts 85 seconds, and was danced completely by Natalie, she exits the scene on pointe. That is completely her without any digital magic. I am responding to this to put this to rest and to defend my actor. Natalie sweated long and hard to deliver a great physical and emotional performance. And I don't want anyone to think that's not her they are watching. It is."

That seem inarguable to us. For that to be incorrect, Darren would have to be blatantly lying to us. We're inclined to believe him over anyone else, here.

So, Sarah Lane, what's the deal? Is it jealousy after all?

We're all sure you're a wonderful dancer, and you're in one of the best movies last year . That's something to be proud of; no need to rain on Natalie's parade!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

while she may not have done 100% of the dance sequences, Natalie actually showed some acting chops and spent 1 year getting into the role. Contrast that with our Bollywood actresses who allocate 3-4 movie timeslot per year without giving it much effort, just hopping from movie to movie. Natalie might not be the most deserved winner of the Oscars but in terms of acting, BW actresses aren't in the same league. I often find that a passion for acting is missing in them. BW gets their actresses for decorative pieces, hence many models are handpicked to enter the industry. Katrina- a model. Deepika-model, Prianka- former Miss. Word, Aishwariya- former Ms. Universe. Sushmita Sen- former Ms. India (i think that's the highest she went, not sure) Lara Dutta- former Miss India (or maybe South asia?) Clearly this speaks volumes for the requirements of what it takes to make it in BW. I'm not saying models/beauty pageants contestand cannot act, but exclusively picking based on those criteria makes those that can act lose out their chances. Natalie has been always into performances from what I'm read about her. Many BW actresses are just concerned with hits and don't give anything substantial to their roles.
