Also when he tells muslim couple we should pray by heart and not just to show others. I was blown by that, amazing amazing movie. I loved Everyone's performances the only minus point was how Kjo shows rizwan is the hero and the president part. Other than that movie was great. But yeah many didn't liked it and many refused to watch the movie as no one wanted to watch 9/11 tragedy all over again. But now we cannot say Kjo just make Candy floss movies, because he went ahead beyond his imagination.

"subject ...handled maturely" - Idoubt there's anything mature showing a mom responsible of a preteen kid falling for an Asperger guy just BECAUSE he shows her how San F's sky is wonderful - how she let an Asperger guy takes care of her child without knowing him - and let him go into her family life without being involved in his therapy...
...why is that Riz was always in the beauty salon she worked in? Like if he had lost interest in his job ---- salesman.....
mature....? about how Kjo handled the SO NOT subtle racism against muslims....btw the kid was not muslim but hindu & his name wasn't KHAN!!!! about how on the VERY 12th september 2001 --- Mandira's beauty salon becomes a living desert just like that --- about how when Mandira looks for another job and she's accepted -- she has to mention her NAME is Khan...like if everyone in the world knows that KHAN is a muslim name...knowing Kahn is a jew one and PEOPLE can MAKE easily a confusion about it...
Mature about how they portray black people -- which was really an INSULT ....even in "gone with the wind" Mama's character shows relevance because it's a period drama set in the South in the 19th century......Don't know if they wanted to portray black poor people from New Orleans ( even them don't look like the stereotypes of mama jenny) what kind of people Kjo meet in NY but he should mix up with people he wants to portray on screen ---- and goes out from his indian haven😕
Don't know what kind of research Kjo and his "stupid" screenplay writer (stupid cause she did copy a lot from I am Sam & Forrest Gump and couldn't create an original story from her own mind😃) did but thank God they didn't help to do my university report on ethnicity in the caribbean 😛 ekh kjo doesn't even know how wasp & black people in the US live & think---- yeah i liked how wasp people were showed as ignorants & racists...great going to make it to the oscars...and i liked how he showed Mandira as a racist & brainless mother "khan khanna" how subtle!!!😊 I can understand she was sad & worked up but what was the need to make racist comments to your husband....maybe it was that or a line like "you're a retard.." yeah mature...😕
The death of the kid was dumb as hell....and there are a lot of errors about the chronology in the story....
The acting was good though..but even with a good acting ---the second part comes accross as stupid....
ok the message was great - there was not anything much left to be good either...about the storyline so good the message worked a bit--- but at least it doesn't the innocent spirit of the movie.....
Great first part --- completely random & useless second part !

-aspergers is not a mental problem---they are very normal as human beings!!! there is nothing wrong wid them, they are just more brainy and a little less expressive emotionally
-mandira falls for his innocence and also his son gets along wid him very well
-the son becomes khan after marriage
-kajol is not shown racist she is shown a mother in pain
-i am quite sure that racism straight after the 9/11 attacks wud've been quite bad

Hmm well I definitely got to hear a lot of different opinions so that's good =)

I can see how some of the aspects of the films might be ridiculous. But somehow, they didn't overshadow the overall feel/message of the film like it did for some people. Perhaps some people think SRK really overacted but for me, it was actually his acting that made the film that much more appealing to me. Perhaps, the storytelling/filmmaking seemed pretentious but I really felt that after a long time, SRK gave an honest, heartfelt performance

Oh well, to each his own.

Ok if Asperger is not a mental "problem" why is it called "Asperger syndrom"...and when did I say Riz was a wierd person??????????
If it's a syndrom it's like saying there are specific criterion to describe a certain mental state....
it's like saying borderline people have no mental pb which is wrong..the same goes for autistic people...my sister is so I do know...
He had a therapist (unofficial? his sister in law) so I guess he had some problem to solve nah...pfff
I understand Mandira was in pain - but so far there was no proof about the motivation of the killing of her son..how come can she say it's because he's Khan"....If he was a Khanna - don't know if his stupid schoolmates would have made a significant difference....I guess american people don't know that there was some trouble between Hindus & Muslims in India and pbbly most of them don't know that India & Pakistan used to be ONE country....
Since WHEN people with mental or personality disorders are even ALLOWED to adopt children...? You should read a bit about the spirit of law & how Law is made no matter your country of origin...A person like Riz has a legal tutor which was OBVIOUSLY his brother!!! And normally Riz couldn't have got married without legal consent of his bro....so the storyline is messed up sorry!!!!
Yes racism was quite bad after 9/11 and against sikhs hindus Pakistanis indians who weren't even muslims... and towards people who looked like eastern.....yes...but before too there was racism...it's everywhere & in every town...
even where I live people make a huge difference between light & lighter.....
MNIK lacks subtility & coherence..that's it....the movie means to fight cliches while using the biggest ones ever..contradiction & stupidity much....

LOL. How did i miss this topic?

I'm still stuck on Mr. Khan's visa status 😆 How did he get to the US in first place? How easily they show nai?

KJO seriously NEEDS to do more research on US life and how things work here first. It's not easy (esp for an international) to come and work here or even rent a nice looking apartment or wear designers clothes- PAISEY lagtey hai...woh bhi DOLLARS!!!

Showing how everyone was affected post 9-11 was fine- heart wrenching and what not. Was it depicted convincingly tho? I dont think so. Did it make any statement? Not that I RECALL. Just HERO GIRI they showed after that. and what was the point of showing all that after Georgia Hurricane? KJO just had to show that we can single handedly FIX AmERICA and that AMERICAN govt. shud learn something. 😆 What A MESS!!!!

It was SRK's OTT acting that was a BIG big PUT OFF for me. It was almost UNBEARABLE.
and yes, the movie was PRETENTIOUS. I wouldn't be surprised if he sweeps all the awards tho. 😆

Okay I can't be biased and say this film is great just because it has SRK in it! But I didn't like it that much! I take K3G over MNIK any day! At least K3G was entertaining! MNIK was a bit boring for me. But good to see Karan doing something different!

The only thing I liked about the film was That I could relate to it! Since Am a Muslim and I leave in USA. I thought the film was realistic and approached the issue very well! And SRK performed really well! I didn't see SRK in the film, I saw the character, so Kudos to SRk for being real in his performance! Nice to see that he was doing something different! Kajol's performance was nothing new or memorable!

PS am really shocked that ppl think SRK overacted in MNIK. THe film worked because of his acting! He was really good!

I feel like they portrayed americans/america sooo wrong!
W*F..why do black ppl have to look so damn poor in the movie..all blacks are not poor..tahts just being stereotypic there!
Hurricane....??!! like fa reall??
The entire basis was good but I felt it was still OTT in certain ways..although it was SRK Kajol..Kajol annoyed me a bit

Such long replies on my quotes, I'm Honored😆. It's my opinion, i still believe MNIK is Kjo's Best work and Srk's one of best role of his career. If people think Rizwan's disease was a mental disease or MNIK lacked of some sort, then it's their opinion and i respect their opinion. neither am i forcing people to believe or agree in what i say. But yes i loved Kajol in the movie. I loved her pain and sorrow when her son dies and adored her how she loves rizwan for his innocence and his goodness. Actually i felt for the boy who plays kajol's son, he loved rizwan and even dies for him😔 Even srk jr was terrific and the mother..she should do more movies..And yes i do feel Kjo and Srk did their research in terms of religious facts. Just because it's a KJO movie doesn't mean we should rate the movie as it's biography on someone. When kjo and Srk look back, they should be proud of this movie because they make the movie which they something believed in. Even though they knew it be difficult for them to make this huge success and not to forget there were only background songs and there were no dancing around the trees and yes Srk, Kjo and Kajol has grown in their own ways.

I don't know what kajol should had done or any other woman had done if their son died because of her newly husband because of his religion. I guess you all must be really brave to still love your husband and let go off your child's love. I could relate to kajol's character and i don't think in any way it was filmi or fantasy. But again this is my opinion and not anyone's opinion. i guess we all can respect each other's opinion, right?😛
