What was wrong with MNIK?

I liked it...but it could've been better. Like, the 1st half was great...but the movie got cheesy and boring in the 2nd half. It was too slow paced. And like the whole Hurricane stuff....that wasn't needed. KJo a went a bit overboard, but then that's his specialty, lol.

But, yeah, SRK as Rizwan was amazing. He did his usual stuff after CDI...so this was a refreshing change. He made Rizwan completely lovable.

I don't want to speak for everyone else, but on a personal level i felt that the flaws in MNIK doesn't have to do with the acting really, i thought SRK did a great job portraying a person with asbergers, and kajol too wasnt bad. It isnt even the overall message johar is trying to put out there, which is a fairly good one. I think to start of with, My Name is Khan is flawed on more than one level. I think straightaway i felt that it had wayyy to many issues on its plate and trying to tackle all of them at once came off as hasty and ended up jumbling together to make the audience confused of what the MAIN issue was in the first place.

Maybe this is just me but it hought the movie was a bit exxagerated in certain parts too. I know that bollywood films in general arnt mean to showcase a great example of how things really are, but for a movie trying so hard to put out some harsh truths and break down sterotypes it over-did a few parts and also had stereotypes in its own plot. For one thing, Kajol's son dies via a SOCCER BALL throw fest? really? was i the only one who thought that was a tad bit ridiculous. Also stemming from that, how Kajol basically blamed her childs death on Rizwan. wth, how does that enforce anything positive about her character? Which johar tries to ham up during the first half of the movie prior to the death. She basically tells an autistic man with a muslim last name that her son is dead because of him and tells him to get out of her life. -__-''. This not only makes me question her character, but their entire marriage.

Secondly, i think the stupidest part of the entire movie was the katrina bit, where apparently the muslim community is the only community in America that is willing to help the victims of Hurrican Katrina? That was the most retarded 'im gonna add something random and heartbreaking now to earn the main character some street cred' scene i have ever seen. To also further point out the stereotypes MNIK has, all the black people sound and look like they hopped out of dr.dolittle, being 'good-natured', overweight and speaking in extremley stereotypical 'i am a friendly black woman' slang language. Also all the FBI agents were dumb and red-necky, and apparently everyones in Mandira's sons school seem to think all muslims are terrorists. Like i felt like johar just SET UP these incredibley over-the-top racist situations without any build up or credibility in which rizwan COULD be seen as a sole hero.

Ultimatley, My Name Is Khan has its heart in the right place, it just goes on to try to make some of its points in wierd over-the-top hammy ways. Which is typical Johar style, so overall i dont think he really broke away from his usual style of taking movies, he just tackled a different topic. I thought SRK's acting was touching though, and did feel that the message the movie was trying to convey though dramatized throughout the movie is essentially a good one.

Oh dear I love the vigilidiot. His reviews are hilarious. But they do exaggerate every flaw in a movie, even the good ones.

I just watched My Name is Khan a couple of days ago and I was blown away by it. I cried BUCKETS and I just found the movie extremely touching and inspiring.

However, I believe a lot of people didn't actually like it very much. Which, surprises me. I personally thought it was refreshingly different from KJ's other movies and while it obviously had a dramatic element to it, I thought the acting and the subject was very well executed. After a long time, I thought SRK was able to bring a certain innocence and newness in his characters.

i loved the movie, being a very sensitive subject i think Kjo handled it very maturely and they all did their research. I loved Rizwan journey with Mamma jenny and his speech at the church. Also when he tells muslim couple we should pray by heart and not just to show others. I was blown by that, amazing amazing movie. I loved Everyone's performances the only minus point was how Kjo shows rizwan is the hero and the president part. Other than that movie was great. But yeah many didn't liked it and many refused to watch the movie as no one wanted to watch 9/11 tragedy all over again. But now we cannot say Kjo just make Candy floss movies, because he went ahead beyond his imagination.

@chatpati thts ur opinion and i respect that :) I didnt like the movie because it was trying too hard to make a "statement", while forgetting to justify the essential points of conflict....A kid dying from a soccer ball attack? Kajol marrying srk without even thinking once or consulting to her son about his would-be father?? Kajol blaming srk's "khan" to be the cause of her sons death (without any proof/evidence) and separating from him (how is that gonna help anything...?)?The hurricane in georgia with khan being the ONLY one helping out? The president personally meeting him and saying corny dialogs to khan (if you have any trouble call me...yeh rite)...too many silly things going around...

when i can guess the exact intent of the director while watching a movie, i term it as a dishonest effort because the director is manipulating the audience...its like "I want them to cry in this scene", "i want them to go awwww here", "i want them to feel EPIC during this scene"..etc etc..

The message about humanity and good moral values was better delivered in movies like Rocket singh and the munna bhai series.

I did love the movie! It definitely touched me and made me cry buckets of tears. Kajol and SRK were perfect as Rizwan and Mandira. The movie had it's share of hard-hitting scenes!

I liked rocket singh...it was simple, realistic and had a fantastic performance by ranbir kapoor...probably his best!
