avantika actually took those words to heart and lost weight! i feel for the girl. there is pressure on the GF to look good when your BF is a hotshot actor! and i think it is important though....as wives/gfs of public figures they also are public figures...as public figures they are going to be judged...from their toenails to their hairstrand....better look as good as possible....as for the husbands...curious...what happens to husbands like abhishek? do get abuses too?

This is a very interesting post.

.

I think that it is two things:

.

1. The medium of communication has changed drastically in the past decade or so. I still remember that in the '90s in the US, at least for our family, Stardust and CineBlitz magazines were the only way to find out the gossip. There were very few Indian TV channels, and even those weren't available easily. I don't know about how it was in India, but over here there wasn't a way to communicate about bollywood easily. We still have this HUGE amount of Stardust magazines from the '90s, and after looking through them recently, I saw how limited the scope of finding out things was. Things have really changed now, and I can type "Aamir Khan" into Google and get the exact same results as someone sitting in India (or anywhere else in the world). So, information is more readily accessible and people from around the world can now communicate their thoughts and feelings, which seemingly makes the magnitude of the situation larger.

.

In reality, people have always been obsessed with stars and have always bashed. I remember that my older cousins went on very unapologetic rants about Suzanne Khan, for the sole reason that she married Hrithik and apparently "didn't deserve to". All of my desi friends have been huge fans of SRK for their entire lives, but until recently, there was nowhere to express it but to each other in person. Now, anyone can easily come online and start obsessing/bashing to their heart's content.

.

2. People are always attracted by freshness. Shahid, Ranbir, and Imran are still relatively new and kind of mysterious in a sense. That makes people more curious and interested in these people. The scope to imagine link-ups and break-ups is endless, as others mentioned, which probably also catches attention. Now if you think about SRK or Akshay, there really isn't anything new to say, how much more is it possible to know about them anyways? I bet that when all of these actors were new they had the same type of fans as Ranbir, Shahid, and Imran currently do, but now its died down a bit to make way for the newer stars. Also, many fans are quite young, and can probably identify more with the younger actors/actresses. It's actually a weird thought that even John Abraham is old enough to be my father! (He was about 20 when I was born.) Adding to that, there isn't much scope for the whole link-ups thing with the older actors. Is John going to leave Bipasha? Probably not. Is SRK going to leave Gauri? Highly doubtful. I think it's actually better for them to be left out of petty situations like that.

.

I'm sorry that it's so long, but that's just what I was thinking about.

Its just that We love the star, their acting, their looks, their personality etc...but we aren't jealous of them. Just because we say..."Awww. He is so good looking," does not mean we think we have a chance with him. Get real yaar. How can someone be jealous of something that they love and adore as a person?...From my side, i think its impossible.

Have you been to Ranbir's fansite? I know this idea sounds ludicrous but when I was active there a while ago that is EXACTLY how his fans behaved. They talked about how if they were to meet him they could convince him to dump Deepika. They would actually rather have the stories of Ranbir cheating on Deepika with Katrina be true than have the two of them be together. I never thought I would witness such fanaticism before I landed on that site and boy was I in for a rude shock.

@guesswho: I agree with your point about the "image" thing. That was the complaint of most Ranbir fans in the beginning: Deepika doesn't deserve Ranbir because she has been with too many men (they actually used a lot more colourful words). But I wonder how people attatch the character someone plays in a film to how they are in real life. People tell me that Sonam, Amrita Rao and Shahid have these sweet and innocent images, but I don't really *see* it. Is it just because of the films they have done? or how they look? I never thought either of them were "seedha-sadha" and neither does that image make me dislike or like a celebrity.

I would say instead of believing or thinking what others feel, we should learn more abt them ourselves. Easiest way would be to read and watch their interviews. That way we have an image of what we feel the person really is like rather than going by what the majority or people online feel.
Sorry off topic 😆 but I just felt like saying this in general, not directed towards you personally Bluemoon.

Who said that only holds true for the younger lot? Flav, ever been on saif's forum?
Its a place to nurture kareena hatred. She gets called hte nastiest names. Their guestbook is CONSTANTLY being updated with "anonymous" msgs like, "saif, dont marry kareena", "take a deep breath, think wtih your head, and wake up!"
She's been called a dirty handbag saif carries around, a vampire, a curse, a jinx, and god knows what else.
And hilarious bit, everytime saif's movies dont do well...guess what...its coz "ever since eh's hooked up with kareena, he's had HORRIBLE luck" but then wasnt Race released AFTER kareena? And LAK?
Oh adn any kareena post will get deleted.
And htese are saif's WELL WISHERS.
What amuses me is that saif is obviously crazy for bebo. But on top of that, his MOTHER, BOTH SISTERS, FATHER, and COSTARS have come out and given statements about how htey are so fond of kareena and they want them to settle down as soon as possible.
Yet these mere "fans" think they know better than saif's own FAMILY 😆

Desu I already mentioned your skirmishes with the Saif fans. But maybe it kind of makes sense with the unattached thing. They still have some hope that they wont last and bashing Kareena is the only way they can live out their fantasies. 😕

That is sort of what I meant. I don't really know about Sonam, but I can tell from Shahid's interviews that he is not seedha-saadha. I mean he is not evil, but neither is he some angel. That is what I was wondering - how can people base their image of a star based on the kind of role they are playing? They are actors after all - its their job to play different characters.

Oh I just read that, lol!
Thanks Geet, but yeah, tha'ts a good example of age not a playing a factor...but I guess more the age of fangirls being a factor.
I think a lof of Saif's fanbase nowadays are the younger lot...or perhaps perception also has somethign to do with it.
Maybe they just didnt like kareena to begin with, and cant get over the fact that their favorite is so lattoo over her that he goes out adn gets her name tattooed, cant stop singing praises, has gone completely obsessively lovey dovey on her, lol.
Yeah that woudl be annoying. Yet at teh same time, i dont understand how that's KAREENA'S fault htat saif is behaving this way. Honesty, if that hottie was lattoo over me, the last thing Id' do is say, "Saifu, back off a sweetie. Dont be romantic. Dont call me, dont care about me, dont take me to holidays" lol
I mean seriously...Id' be grinning all the way, haha.
I think it also has to do wiht the fact that saif also recieved a lot of flak and they somewhat project onto Kareena...even though its hsi RELATINSHIP with Kareena and how he behaved that incited htat. SO I dont see why the sole blame should go on bebo, especially as seeing that she's much younger and not hte most mature gal around, lol.
And third, I think it also ahs to do wtih a lot of his fans being fans of Rani and Preity and his pairing with them (Salaam Namaste, Hum Tum, etc) adn perhaps hoping somehwere that if he had to hook up with an actress, why not them (who were actually known to be good pairs iwth saif)

Yeah I guess he probably has fans who are younger. I am assuming he got fans post Dil Chahta Hai for the most part. So those people are likely to be younger and there react like the other fan girls.

I know I said this already but I don't understand why fans feel they *know* who is better for their favourite and who isn't. That just makes no sense to me. From what I have heard Saif and Rani didn't even get along when they worked together - not that they had fights, but unlike Preity, Saif wasn't really friends with Rani. So wanting him to be with them just because they look good on screen is strange.

Who said Shahid is innocent? He is so not innocent. He thinks before he talks, he's a very intelligent actor and tricky too sometimes.

Consider this:

"I'm not dating as such. So you're taking me for face value? You're believing what I'm saying. It's up to you."

Lol that made my head go round n' round. It was smart too, actually. Leave everyone thinking. You've got your answer, but then you really didnt actually.

Charlie boy is smart.
