the "younger" bollywood men? I mean why do they produce such "crazy" fans (I'm speaking generally here)? I'm talking about the likes of Shahid, Ranbir, Imran, (include others if I forgot them). I have noticed fans of these actors leave no opportunity to bash their respective girlfriends. Many Ranbir and Imran fans bash Deepika and Avantika. Or, the actresses they end up getting linked with, i.e. Katrina, Genelia. Many Shahid fans go beyond crazy to prove who Shahid is linked up with. Is it Priyanka? Rani? Amrita Rao? And they definitely don't leave a chance to bash Kareena even though she's moved on for over 2 years now.

On the contrary, the "conventionally goodlooking" and older men like Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham and Akshay Kumar do not have fans (atleast from what I have seen) that bash their wives and girlfriends endlessly. I also don't see fans of these older actors fighting with each other for inane reasons. Ofcourse they might have and I may have just not witnessed it. But really does it have to do with the age of the actors involved or the age of the fans? Do older men no longer pull psychotic fans towards them? Or do fans give up their craziness because these men are married and no longer available? "No longer available" is debatable because news of their affairs do crop up time and again. I'm not sure if the last reason makes any sense. I'm not sure what my post is intended for either since my thoughts are incoherent right now. But please discuss….

P:S Mods please feel free to close this topic if this turns out to be mass-e-murder of fans. 😆

^I think the older men have had their share of GF/wife hating abusing etc. I remember when Aamir debuted, his wife was not liked. I still see a lot of people hating on Suzanne Roshan or Gauri Khan. But to a much lesser extent just because I think it's been too long and you can't really change anything. The young & single ones- you know there is still time to dump those gfs. LOL!

Imran fans don't diss Avantika...in fact they are in love with her. Well the ones I know are....she was the first to get in touch with some of the Imran fans :-)

you gave the answer yourself
Or do fans give up their craziness because these men are married and no longer available?
may be this is the reason whatever its is find it very silly to fight with people for the stars who dont even know u n seriosuly they end up with anyone its their wish n choice, its time to grow up i guess.
have been like a fan of srk/akshay/aamir like from when i was 4 so its been like a long time i really dont find any of the younger lot appealing or attractive (may be its just me )
but i do like imran and i have never fighted with anyone for him 9i think so) n ive never abused avantika too n i dont want him to break up with her n date sonam, genelia or anyone

Fascinating topic ;)
I tend to see that as psychological projection. People (fangirls/fanboys) tend to admire those whose personality they relate with the most hence, linking up the star who they think they relate with and the unachievable perfect celebrity [usually from the opposite gender]. It is kind of like living vicariously through the celebrities. For most, the same fantasy can't be projected on married stars because they are married which in conventional morality of many would mean they can't harbor the same desires as they would for the unmarried ones. To sum it up a bit: fans try to vicariously live out "unacceptable" desires through celebrities. The enthusiasm mostly comes from age and/or from the extent of the repression of their own urges. Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone.
With older men/celebrities, there is a presumed inevitablity that once they are married, nothing else can happen to break apart the married couple - which realistically isn't true. Basing it on that assumption, fans tend to get used to the wives of the celebs.

I guess its the miracle of teenage harmones. Basically as teenagers they look to "belong".. life isn't easy and many don't get to do, say and act the way they wanna in reality.. but with internet they find the ultimate power to act acc to their will without getting judged, questioned or disciplined by any elder, parents or any authority figure.. It is a common thing that happens to all teens.. I guess..As the research says that max number of people who come in the public forums and post anonymously are below the age of 22 and after mid 20's people loose intersts in these forums.. I am sure all the young ladies here will grow up to be bright and successful women and will learn to put their energies to better use (including me)..hehe

@LifoLicicious: Maybe I'm looking at the wrong places then because I see repeated bashing of Avantika on youtube and pinkvilla. But then I don't blame you for not taking them into consideration, they are afterall a loonybunch showing their best behavior with no moderation around.😆

@Shadowkisses: That's an interesting take. Never really thought of it in those terms. Thanks for bringing a fresh perspective. I guess this phenomenon draws parallels to the one where underachiever parents goad and pressure their kids into being overachievers more for their own ego than for the kids' well-being.

@ Adios: Actually Suku, that's what I have noticed too. Some fans who have never even heard of or liked the actor/actress before suddenly start singing their praises just because the majority is. You can see herd mentality in action, a desperation to belong to a group by any means.

@tpam: Yes, that is a very plausible explanation. Internet has given access to all and sundry. Its more than likely that this phenomenon still existed during the times of the older actors but just did not gain any attention due to lack of means to do so.

Actually Ranbir fans love Sonam and Katrina, basically anyone who Ranbir is linked with that is not Deepika. They also like Avantika who was apparently his GF back in the day. I don't know how they felt about Nandita Mahtani though. Anyway I digress...

I think it is a combination of the reasons mentioned. When Hrithik came onto the scene internet forums were not too big, or atleast I wasn't on many of them. But I have heard stories of wrist-slitting, sending a fan-mail every single day, and other crazy exhibitions of fan love. Some of these fans loved Suzanne and some hated her. Compared to that I would say that fans on internet forums are actually quite tame.

I think like Adios said the crazy SRK, Aamir, Salman fans seemed to have moved on to bigger and better things. Also the internet wasn't as readily available (atleast not in India) when they were younger and relatively less attached. Salman and Akshay seem to have a lot more male fans in the general public than the young stars of today. I am not sure whether that has any relevance but I thought it was interesting. Maybe it has something to do with the kind of films they have done - though I don't want to make gender stereotypes here.

Atleast on IF I see just as many crazy fans of female actors as male actors (young or old). I just think they are more accepting of whoever their favourite celeb chooses to date. In all other aspects they are just as defensive, or overzealous or whatever you want to call them.
