Sticking to bollywood though because I don't want this thread to get closed, I think it is interesting that there is such a difference between comments made about Shahid-Kareena-Saif on YT and what happens on Shahid's forum.

Comparing that to the Ranbir-Deepika-Sonam triangle I found that comments on RKF to be very similar to the ones on youtube. I wonder why?

To be more precise Geet, we mean Dr. Karan ARMAAN 3 TIMER MALIK SINGH GROVER 😆😆😆 Oh his FANGIRLS.....They are in denial todate n need help badly

I think that's due in part to Deepika's "image" as someone flighty, who dates many guys casually. There's also that Ranbir and Sonam were never proved to be dating that adds more fuel to the fire, so to speak, because imagination has no bounds whereas reality does. In the first case, it is real so sooner or later people would have to deal with it. In the second scenario, you're breaking someone's wish or "dream" which I imagine is more drastic hence the backlash is greater. I'm not sure this even makes sense but oh well.

Wow, I never really thought about it that way, but it definately makes sense. In fact, this brings to my mind, the outlash that came when it was officially announced that Abhishek-Aishwarya were engaged to be married, many fangirls deeply sympathized with Rani and painted 'Aishwarya' as the bad woman in the picture blaming her for supposedly stealing Abhishek for Rani, and this is because, as you said, since Abhishek & Rani's pairing was never made real, it give them a lot of scope to imagine percieved feelings from Rani's side for Abhishek and so on.

I think the reason is because when a fan-favorite pair breaks up, that break-up obviously signals that in reality, the pair wouldn't have worked out at all so fans can't really mourn about it. But the fact that they never dated opens a lot of possibilities for creating scenarios, like say for example thinking that maybe Ranbir-Sonam would've been more suitable and compatible than Ranbir-Deepika. Had Ranbir say actually dated Sonam first, and then broken up wih her, and then subsequently dated Deepika, there wouldn't be such censure, because it would be quite apparent to the fangirls from the break-up that Ranbir-Sonam's pair isn't compatible.

Oh wow I never thought of it that way but it does make sense. The idea of the couple allows them more leeway in coming up with reasons for why they would be perfect, as opposed to a couple in real life that breaks up. Then you sort of accept that it couldn't/wouldn't work out, but in the former case you can still fantasize because it is all conjecture at that point.

That's a good observation, but I think every actor goes through his/her share of crazy fans. I remember when I was in middle school, most of my desi friends were obsessed with Hrithik Roshan. And then in 2003 came Ishq Vishq and the Shahid craze began. I was a little bit embarrassed to be a Shahid fan at that time, because he looked like a little kid and I probably would have looked older than him 😛

Anyway, getting back to the point, as Bollywood brings out new actors, fans switch sides or add on more actors in their fan kitty. As new movies release, they decide to zero in on one specific actor and spend all their free time supporting him/her and bashing everyone else. As soon as that movie craze dies down, they think of reasons to still keep supporting him and if they can't think of any, they move on to a new actor. I think this has what happened to Hrithik. Currently, he's not in the news and I'm not saying all his fans have switched sides or anything...they've just temporarily gone into hibernation.

And also, more established actors don't make as many movies as the newbies do. They have maybe one movie a year whereas the newer ones have 2-3 per year. This gives fans more reason and opportunity to support their new favorites. It doesn't mean the older ones don't have fans. They're just not doing as much work, so they made their fans' jobs easy as well hehe

I think the Internet has really helped build the crazy fangirl bonding. That being said young crazy fan girls have always been there. I remember when I was little and a girl in my class claimed that SRK was only in love with Kajol and Gauri will probably die one day and then SRK and Kajol can be together forever since they were meant for each other. 🤪Yeah, fan insanity has no bounds!

Ugh, around the release of Saawariya I made the mistake of visiting that site few times. The kind of stuff those girls say would make any sane person's ears bleed. I think you are completely right about the Deepika's image thing. It always made me wonder if it had to do with the "good indian girl" syndrome. Sonam was portrayed as a very "indian" "seedi-saadi" type in the movie and during promotions which I guess the girl related to or wanted to be or something of that sort. And Deepika was some "evil serial dater". Poor Ranbir needed to be saved from her. I felt a lot of it had to with the girls being young and having a twisted sense of what a "good girl" means. Maybe I am not making any sense but that was how I always saw it.

Count me in one of those girls who thought Deepika snatched Ranbir from Sonam. But not anymore. In my case, the media played a huge part. As they reported Deepika's affairs, I hated her more. They projected Sonam as the victim which made me sympathise with her. As *guesswho* said that young girls have an image in their mind of the "good girl", I had that too. I thought that celebs have to be good role models to youngsters and Deepika was portraying a bad image while Sonam was being the perfect "good girl" in my eyes. Deepika was being too bold for my liking and was going against my idea of the "perfect" celebrity. But as time went on, I realised I was wrong.
I agree with quite a few points made here. I think people like celebrities because they can relate with their personalities in real life. I am saying this about myself too. I have liked celebrities in the past because they have given answers in interviews which I could relate too. If anybody said anything bad about that celeb, I would feel that they are not just "attacking" them but they are also "attacking" me because I could relate to that celeb.
Maybe there is such zealotory towards the younger stars because youngsters today want somebody "new" and "fresh" who acts in a good movie. As soon as the promos come on air and it looks appealing to the eye, people are curious to know about the lead actors. Like in the case of Imran Khan who made his debut with Janne Tu Ya Jaane Na. The promos looked appealing to the eyeand Imran was "fresh". There was this curiosity around him and there was good media hype. But there are actors who have started out badly and then the media hype isn't in their favour either so people don't take a liking to them that easily. I do know people who say that they are tired of seeing SRK, Salman onscreen because they worked for so many years and they want to see somebody who is relatively new to acting. They think that their era is over. Although I disagree. The 3 Khans have taken Bollywood to new heights. So I do think that media plays a huge part in peoples' views about actors. But these are just my views.
btw great topic . 😊
