Life is not about making the right choices or going by the norm, rather it is about self-improvement & growth.
I love the way the show is handling its characters & their conflicts.. making them flawed & even unlikeable at times without painting them as 'wrong' or black.. rather just letting them be human. Letting them be vulnerable & letting them be people who make choices that may not appear 'right' to many.
Rhea appears to be selfish on the surface & her sisters fail to understand why she left an amazing guy like Nikhil. But no one notices that she craves attention & love.. she was unable to take Nikhil giving his mother equal importance because she doesn't want to be second or just equal. he wants to be first. Yes, she has no idea hat she's lost.. but is she wrong & is her desire illegitimate? Must we always love the person who loves us? what about our own choice? Yes she hurt him by breaking off the engagement last minute, but at least she was honest & didn't want both of them to regret it. I hope that her journey back to Nikhil will not be about choosing about him because he loves for, but rather because she loves him & wants him in her life.
Myra is judgemental & impulsive. she jumps to conclusions quickly. She's definitely a hard nut to crack because once she forms opinions about people, esp negative opinions like she's formed for Kabir, it will take a lot of effort for her to move beyond her clouded judgement & see one for who they really are. She has a tendency to be self-righteous & has hurt Kabir with her insensitivity.. but hey isn't that very human? Don't we all do that sometimes? She has had a lot on her shoulders in trying to be the ideal daughter Mummy Kohli wants & the peacemaker of the house. And here comes Kabir who is shattering her every illusion of being the perfect & ideal.
Mummy Kohli is enjoying life & not realising that her perfect family is dysfunctional. Everyone is happily eating together & not fighting so its all fine.. but does she realize the neglect Rhea feels, the burden placed upon Myra to be the good girl & the insensitivity shown towards Abha at times? Can she really be blamed when the older generation never really gave importance to such issues? Everything was considered normal & fine as long as everyone smiled.
Many would question Nikhil & Kabir hanging out with the Kohlis even after Rhea & Myra respectively, were mean to them. But hey so what? Just because one relationship breaks, it doesn't mean you cut off from other people who were involved. This just shows how open-minded they are.
Abha made mistakes in the past & I love how unapologetic she is about them.
All of them.. their struggles are so modern & so real. Its time we looked beyond right & wrong.
Cheers,
Samridhi
