CHAPTER-12
Anandi was sleeping peacefully and the rest of the family members were in the living room, though the TV was on, nobody was watching it, coz everyone's thoughts were only on Anandi and wat should be the next step. After resting for about 2-1/2 hours, Anandi suddenly gets up from her sleep with a jerk and again starts murmuring the same old thing about not hurting her. Shiv senses something wrong and suddenly rushes to Anandi living everyone surprised in the living room. Soon others also rush to Anandi. Shiv was hugging Anandi and was trying to console her. She was crying badly and murmuring the same old things. Shiv was unable to take it anymore and shakes her hardly so that she can come out of her trance. Anandi wakes up and opens her eyes and looks around and holds Shiv very tightly and cries loudly. Everyone else come to her and comfort her. After sometime of comforting and some silence, suguna's mother asks Anandi to freshen up and join them for dinner. Anandi agrees and gets up very slowly and Suguna helps her in taking her to the washroom. As per what Anandi said them about her last abortion, she was hardly a week old from her last forceful abortion and Suguna's mother knew the pain that Anandi was currently going through.
Everyone left to the dining room and after sometime Suguna joined along with Anandi. After dinner everyone sat to watch TV for some more time. Suguna's father told Anandi that he has taken the appointment from the doctor, whom they met today earlier in the day, for tomorrow and that she has to say everything about her health and her abortions to her so that accordingly they can treat her. Suguna's father also said that the doctor might even inform the police about her condition as it is a case of police and that things will be easy in that way as they will have a medical proof and can claim for a divorce very easily and that the culprit can be punished. Anandi was crying silently listening to all these and agreed in agreement. Suguna was sitting beside her and was holding her tightly to assure her that the whole of the family is with her in all the ways. Anandi for the very first time smiled at Suguna and this was a bliss to all the people present there as they found this as a ray of hope that Anandi is an optimistic girl and will fight the situations bravely and will move ahead in life. Shiv was very much happy and thanked god for this positive turn at this very moment. After chatting casually and watching TV for an hour everyone departed to their rooms to sleep. Suguna and Anandi were sleeping together and Shiv was on the couch in the living room. He was very happy today as he felt the ray of hope that things are in their way of getting better. Shiv could not sleep well as he was worried of couple of things, like his leave from work, finding a new house for them, the police case, and above all the health of his love. Slowly Shiv also drifted into sleep.
In the morning everyone woke up and was busy with their own routine work and Anandi was sleeping peacefully, there was no grin or sorrow or pain on her face which they have witnessed for the past two days. Nobody wanted to disturb Anandi from her sleep as they know that her condition presently was very brittle and wanted her to take ample rest. At about 9 Anandi woke up and Suguna who was besides her all this time helped her to freshen up and brought her for the breakfast. Everyone had their breakfast together along with Anandi and then Suguna's father asked Anandi to get ready to visit the doctor and also encouraged her to be brave and to be honest with the doctor and not to hide anything. Anandi agreed and left to get ready and they reached the hospital just in time for their appointment.
Shiv, Anandi, and Suguna's mother entered the doctor's cabin and the doctor welcomed them with a pleasant smile making Anandi feel more comfortable. The doctor herself did not know how to start the conversation, so she asked Anandi about her health and how she is doing. Anandi responded with a smile that she was fine. Everyone sitting there could easily read that Anandi was in terrible pain. The doctor then asked her when the last abortion was. Anandi had tears in her eyes and said less than a week ago. The doctor then asked her how many abortions she went through and Anandi replied 7. The doctor herself was shocked on hearing this and she just looked at Shiv as if wanting to pass a message. The doctor then asks Anandi if she is ready to confess everything to the police, as this is a case of criminalism and anandi agrees in affirmative.
She also goes on to explain that coz this is the case brought to the attention of the police by a medical professional the case will not take much proceedings and since the evidence is also very clear the judgment can b passed easily and the culprit b punished very easily. She then asks Anandi to calm down and be patient and not to think too much and worry as everything is just going to be perfect and alright. The doctor asks the trio to wait outside and the doctor calls the police. In about 40 minutes the police arrives and the doctor introduces the Police inspector to Anandi and the family who assisted her. She then goes on to say Anandi that b calm and not to worry she can say everything to him and he will handle her case personally till it goes to the court and also assures that both she and the police will help them in anyways till the end.
The doctor then introduces Suguna's father to the police as her husband. Shiv literally thanks God at this very moment as he really got blessing from him in all the ways as they got a very good doctor and an equally eligible police inspector to handle the case. Anandi with a brave heart says everything that she suffered through. Everyone listens to her all shocked. The police then took the recorded and a written statement of what she just said and asked her the address. She says that she does not know the address but she can point to the building as she has seen it only twice; once when she was brought in that house as a bride and secondly when she was thrown out of the house. The police agreed to her. The police then ask Anandi and Suguna to wait outside at the lobby and after they move out both the couples and Shiv were left in the cabin.
The two of the constables who were with the Police also leave them alone. The doctor starts of with saying that this is a very crucial stage for Anandi and more than Anandi to Shiv as he is to lead a life with her and not just any life but a marital life. The doctor says that its very tough for a girl of Anandi's age to have faced so many probs physically and that she is very weak from the gynecological point of view and that if he is thinking of taking his marriage to a next level he has to first make sure that she is completely healthy and that she needs to be on meds for atleast 3 to 4 months and only then start of leading their marital status to a next level. The doctor then with a pause adds that taking their marital status to a next level can never include her conceiving. Suguna's parents are shocked on hearing this and Suguna's mother breaks down to tears there itself and Shiv tries to comfort her.
Suguna's mother joins her hands and asks Shiv not to spoil his bright future in this way and that they will take the whole and sole responsibility of Anandi and will never hurt her in anyways but can never see a person like Shiv whom they have known since childhood to suffer in this way. Shiv in turns says that all that he knows is that he loves Anandi and it is with great difficulty that he got her back now and he will never ever leave her till his last breath. He has never thought of a marital status with Anandi at all not even in the distant future also and never in such a condition of hers not coz he does not want to but coz he does not want to give any pain to Anandi in anyways. He just wanted to name their relation and that they are husband and a wife in front of the world but will always remain friends within their own boundaries.
He goes on saying that he wants to take care of Anandi in every small way and wants to bring her smile back, wants to cherish every moment of his life with her smiles and her happiness. He says that he knew that Anandi might not need him but he needs Anandi for his survival and that he cannot leave without Anandi. He says that only Suguna knows how he has lived his life all these years repenting on having lost his love and now that he has got it back he will never let it go. Everyone present in the room praise him for his thoughts and appreciate it whole heartedly and the doctor says that she is with him and will help him in every way possible to lead a brighter life in the future. She even adds that Anandi's case is extra special to her not coz of what she went through but coz she has a person like Shiv to take care of her and as a mark of token for his love and the love for her profession the doctor claims to take the case of Anandi free of cost as long as she is in the service of this profession and will help them through advices after her service which she wishes strongly will never be required.
The SI (sub inspector of Police, the doctor's husband) then asks Shiv to be with her as a pillar as she will surely need a strong arm when the case is taken to the court and Shiv nods in agreement. The doctor prescribes some medicines on a paper and calls the nurse to get it and to bill it in her name and that she will b paying for it. The nurse agrees and gets the medicines and the doctor then gives the meds to Shiv and also instructing him how and when to take it. The police along with Anandi and the family leave to Jagya's house. Anandi shows the police the house where she was tortured and the police asks Anandi and the family to move home and to come to the police station when called. They agree and the police go inside the house. After about 3 hours Shiv gets a call from the police asking them to come to the police station and they all head towards the station and on reaching there they see that Jagya, his friends, and his parents were in the station.
Anandi on seeing Jagya and his friends is scared and holds tightly onto Shiv digging her nails into his arms which she held. Shiv gives her the courage by holding her tightly and motions her through eyes not to be scared and that he is with her in all the ways. Jagya is seeing all this and fumes and shouts that this lady herself is a characterless female and that being a wife of someone she has clenched to some other man and that too in front of her husband and how dare she file a complaint against me. The police was about to beat him when Anandi stops the inspector and takes the permission to speak. The police agrees. Anandi looks at Shiv who was holding her and says that she is fine and that she needs to speak something to this great man who just labeled her as characterless. Shiv nods his head.
Anandi goes to Jagya and says that she was never this bold as she is now, had she been bold since her childhood in this way as she is now may be she would not have ended up being like this. Had she been bold enough to say her parents not to marry her at that age she would have been leading a much better life now. She married as per their wish and at least had she refused him from marking her as his and that too forcefully she would not have ended up being in this station with a complaint filed against her legally wedded husband and that too in front of a man named Shiv whom she claims her husband but the world does not'
She then adds. tell me Mr. Jagya, how u felt when u shoved me forcefully. U might have felt very strong as u are twice my size, twice my strength, but let me tell u that u were wrong. Being strong is showing love and not showing ur power forcefully. It takes a stronger man to show control than it does to knock a woman out cold. It is a real man who is gentle , who only wants to console you and not control you and you are no real man, forget being real man u r not supposed to be called a man, and u blaming me for being characterless, s I am characterless, I was made characterless by my very own legally wedded husband. Where was this so called name characterless when I was forced to b on the same bed with three of ur friends. Where was all this anger and frustration when ur friends used and forced me in front of u. where was ur so called tag of being called a legally wedded husband when u forcefully aborted my kids 7 times. I cant even call them our kids coz I do not even know whom they actually belonged to. Where was all this anger and ur so called character at that time. Now I proudly confront in front of my legally wedded husband that I no longer consider u a human being and nor do I consider u a husband by any means and he, this very man, Shiv Raj Shekhar is my legally wedded husband and I Mr. Jagat give u a damn about it and I would surely see to it that u are paid for all that U did to me.
Anandi spoke those words and she was about to faint when Shiv held her from fainting. Shiv lay Anandi on the bench nearby and sprinkled water on her face and after few minutes Anandi gained back her consciousness. Everyone in that room except for Jagat and his team were panicked. Suguna's mother gave her some water to drink. She drank water and she hugged her back and cried very bitterly. The SI asked Shiv and his team to leave and to attend whenever called and that this case will be taken to the court and that they need to be present whenever they called. Everyone was very new to this court and the proceedings. Even this police station was their first visit. Shiv expressed his concern to the SI that they are not aware of how to proceed and how to deal with it in the future and the SI assured them that he is with them and will guide them always. Shiv and the family left home. The rest were arrested and were in jail. Since it was Friday evening by then and the court was closed until Monday they could not do the proceedings and so Jagat, his friends, and his parents were in the prison until Monday.
Anandi and the others reached home and Anandi said she wanted to sleep for sometime as she is feeling dizzy. Suguna's mother rushed to the kitchen and made some juice for her and asked Anandi to drink it and Shiv asked her to take the medicine which the doctor had prescribed. Anandi took it and then drifted to sleep slowly. Everyone in the living room were thinking of what all happened in the police station, how Anandi shouted at Jagat. The way she spoke was really astonishing coz she never spoke such harshly to anyone. Shiv said that it was a good sign as she spoke up and she opened up all the frustrations that she had on Jagat for ruining her life to hell all these years. Atleast she will have peace of mind and she will b free from frustration. Suguna says that Anandi has accepted her destiny and has accepted Shiv atleast verbally in front of everyone as her husband. Shiv states that even he is happy that she is optimistic and is planning to move ahead instead of lying down where she fell. The day just passes peacefully and it was the very first time that Anandi had a peaceful sleep without waking up from sleep crying. Everyone was happy at this improvement. Everyone knew that Anandi was physically very weak and hence took special care of her like feeding her in between and taking care of her medication. If one forgot, then the other would remind it or go ahead to feed her without waiting for someone to feed her. Everyone equally took Anandi's responsibility.
Next day, at around 10 in the morning, Shiv said that he needs to go to office and talk about his leave and also search a house to which suguna and her parents refused stating that they can stay here and it will not be a problem for them in anyways. Shiv states that he is happy to hear that, but he wants to be with his wife in his own world and he promises that he will pay his visit here atleast once in two days but he cannot be a burden to them along with his wife here. Suguna's parents were not willing to even listen to him and that was when Anandi spoke up. She spoke up saying that a married daughter and a son in law cannot leave in her parent's house for long and even they agree she will never agree to it because a wife feels proud in staying in her husband's house and not in her house. Everyone seated there were surprised and shocked to hear this and Shiv was happy to hear such words from Anandi and everyone agreed to what Anandi said. Shiv left to his office, as it was Saturday and a week off, there were very few people working that time, some TLs and the manager. He went to the manager and apologized for taking unauthorized leave and said that as he was held up in a very urgent personal problem he could not turn up for two days and tat he will b back from Monday. The manager asked him the reason to which Shiv said that he cant disclose it at this moment maybe when the exact time comes and the manager agrees. He then leaves from office and goes in search of a house. Shiv is planning to rent a house near to his office so that he can spend most of his time with Anandi and not waste it on travelling. He goes to almost all the apartments near the office and finally he gets a flat rented hardly about 5 minutes walk from his apartment to office. He is very happy on knowing it and he calls the owner and meets him and pays the advance and takes the key of his house. Shiv was very happy as everything was happening in the right path until now and he thanked God in every step of his and also he prayed God to give him the courage to bring back Anandi back to her normal state in all the ways. Shiv reaches to Suguna's place by late noon and tells everyone about what happened and everyone is happy and Anandi excitedly asks when will they be shifting. Shiv says right now. Anandi is very happy along with Shiv, but suguna and her parents are not that happy, but they knew that this couple needed time all alone, so they agree. Suguna speaks out that they have nothing with them not even a stove to cook food and no cot to sleep even how they will move. Shiv states that its all very simple, they can go on for a shopping now and can purchase the necessary things and can b back home. Everyone thinks of this as a very good idea and everyone gets ready for shopping and leaves to a mall near to Shiv's office as well as his new house so that the delivery can be at the earliest. Though Anandi at first was hesitant to go shopping and refused and the reason was that she dint want to face the world currently as she had red, black, and blue bruises all over her face and hands and the world would come to know of it and would even stare at her which she dint want to face it, but Suguna added that when she has a supporting husband and a family with her why is she scared of the world. Everyone was in agreement with Suguna. Shiv added that if Anandi does not want to shop today it is fine, they will shop whenever Anandi feels like as he truly and strongly wants that each and every item of their household has to be of Anandi's choice only, be it anything, furniture, curtains, utensils, clothes or anything and everything had to be of her choice, so he firmly said that they will shop when Anandi is at her best. Anandi at one point felt very happy that she is given so much of importance and love by him but at the same moment felt sad that she is least worthy for him in all the ways. Anandi did not want to spoil the mood of everyone who actually were ready to leave for the shopping and hence agreed that she will join them. Everyone was happy and Shiv was more than excited coz this is the first time that he is going out with his wife shopping for their house to make it a happy home. They reached the mall and Anandi was elated, shocked, surprised and wat not at the site of the mall as this was the very first time in her life that she was entering into something such. She squeezed suguna's and Shiv's hand when they were on the elevator as she was scared of it as it was her very first time. Anandi looked at the mall very excitedly and selected all the items that were required to start their living. Throughout shopping Suguna was holding onto Anandi and Shiv was besides Anandi mentally and emotionally supporting her. As Anandi predicted people were staring at her but Shiv and Suguna encouraged her to smile and shop rather than concentrating on strangers. The mall people said that they could deliver the items only by tomorrow noon despite many requests. After shopping they went to a coffee shop and had their snacks and coffee and returned home.
