Back with a Bang (and a Bhangra Beat)

Almost a decade after the original Son of Sardaar left audiences chuckling with its loud gags and larger-than-life characters, the sequel drops us straight into yet another whirlwind of confusion, chaos, and comedy. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 is not a direct continuation but a standalone sequel, bigger, zanier, and surprisingly, a bit more emotional.

This time, our beloved Jaswinder “Jassi” Singh Randhawa (Ajay Devgn, effortlessly back in form) is older, slightly wiser, but just as ridiculous. After years of house arrest in Punjab, he finds himself in Scotland, hoping to mend things with his estranged wife Dimple (played by Neeru Bajwa). But Scotland isn’t peaceful for long, and things quickly spiral into absolute mayhem.

Fake Dad, Real Trouble

What begins as a personal mission soon turns into a messy entanglement of mistaken identities, mafia rivalries, and wedding drama. When Dimple surprises Jassi with divorce papers, fate throws him into the lives of Raabia (Mrunal Thakur) and her unconventional family. Jassi is soon roped into helping Raabia’s daughter Saba (Roshni Walia) get married to Goggi (Sahil Mehta), by pretending to be his father. Simple? Not quite.

Enter the Sandhu family, a wildly colourful clan headed by Ravi Kishan’s Raja, with his wife Premlata (Ashwini Kalsekar), his eccentric brothers Tony (late Mukul Dev) and Tittu (Vindu Dara Singh), and a flamboyant father (Sharat Saxena), who seems to have one too many wives scattered across continents. When the entire fake family crashes at the Sandhu mansion for the wedding, secrets, scandals, and slapstick galore unfold.

Execution & Vibe: Loud, Proud, and Fully Masaledaar

The film wears its absurdity on its sleeve, and that’s its biggest strength. The writing knows exactly what kind of movie this is: a campy, laugh-out-loud comedy that flirts with emotional subplots, but never lets seriousness take the driver’s seat. The humour, mostly slapstick and situational, lands more often than it misses. Expect flying punches, flying one-liners, and flying logic too. It's a mad Punjabi family drama meets gangster spoof meets rom-com... set against scenic Scottish hills.

Yes, the structure feels familiar. Yes, the storyline is predictable in chunks. But what makes it work is the energy. The pacing is brisk, and while the first half takes some time to build up the madness, the second half explodes with comic moments and classic confusion-filled set pieces.

The Wedding That Went Wild

One of the standout sequences arrives mid-way through the second half, a wedding gone wildly off-track, where all characters (including Ravi Kishan, Sharat Saxena, Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur) find themselves entangled in a storm of accusations, misunderstandings, and secret affairs. The way the men attempt to pin the blame on Sharat Saxena’s womaniser patriarch is pure comedic gold. It’s loud, over-the-top, and has the audience roaring with laughter.

Another high point is the growing romance between Jassi and Raabia, refreshing and surprisingly well-balanced amidst the chaos. It’s subtle, mature, and gives the film some emotional grounding.

The music of the film doesn’t boast chartbusters, but “Pehla Tu Duja Tu” is catchy and serves as a much-needed breather during the chaos. Background score works in favour of the tone, loud, peppy, and theatrical.

Visually, the film is stunning. The Scottish countryside, the quirky Sandhu mansion, the vibrant wedding setup, everything looks rich, colourful, and straight out of a glossy, feel-good family entertainer.

Ajay Devgn proves once again that no one does deadpan comedy quite like him. His expressions, timing, and sheer commitment to playing a lovable idiot are what keep the film anchored. Mrunal Thakur is a delightful addition, charming, expressive, and never overshadowed by the noise around her. She brings a freshness and poise that balances the film's madness. Ravi Kishan is deliciously loud and hilarious as the mafia-esque Sandhu patriarch. Ashwini Kalsekar brings her usual fire. Roshni Walia, making a confident debut, holds her own. Kubbra Sait and Deepak Dobriyal, especially the latter as a transgender character Gul, add depth and drama in their unique ways. Mukul Dev in his posthumous appearance is both poignant and memorable.

The Final Word: Campy, Crazy, but Entertaining

Son of Sardaar 2 isn't here to redefine cinema. It's here to make you laugh, cheer, all while asking you to turn your brain off at the door. It may not break new ground, and some jokes do fall flat, but when it works, it really works. The characters are endearing, the humour is relentless, and the chaos is crafted with just the right dose of heart.

If you're a fan of desi comedies that go all out, think overacting, dancing mafias, fake fathers, and secret affairs all under one roof, this one's your jam.

A full-throttle Punjabi circus with a Scottish backdrop. Watch it for Ajay Devgn's comic charm, Mrunal's spark, and a wedding you won't forget soon.
