Vijay Deverakonda's psychological thriller 'Kingdom' premiered globally today, July 31. Directed by Gautham Thinnanuri, the film is garnering positive feedback from viewers. The audience is applauding the plot twists and Vijay's performance. The film, which also features Bhagyashri Borse, Satyadev, and other key actors, has music by Anirudh Ravichander.
Reports indicate that the film earned Rs 15 crore at the Indian box office on its opening day. According to Sacnilk, Kingdom earned Rs 15.50 crore on its opening day, with the highest occupancy in the Telugu market. The film had a 63.56% occupancy during morning shows. Afternoon and evening shows saw a decrease in occupancy, with 56.52% and 50.12% footfall, respectively. Night shows recorded an overall occupancy of 61.27%.
Notably, Kingdom's first-day collection surpasses Vijay Deverakonda's previous release, The Family Star, which earned Rs 5.75 crore on its first day. Vijay's Khushi, released in 2024, also earned Rs 15.25 crore on its opening day.
Directed by National Award-winner Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film is a high-octane gangster saga focused on power and the bond between two brothers. The Hindi version features a voice-over by Ranbir Kapoor, while Jr NTR and Suriya have provided voices for the Telugu and Tamil trailers, respectively.
In the film, Vijay Deverakonda portrays an undercover cop with a personal vendetta, with his performance being praised as one of his best. With stylized action, an emotionally driven plot, and a pulsating background score, Kingdom is becoming the theatrical experience fans have anticipated.
As reported by us, initial reactions indicate the film presents a blend of positive and negative aspects. The first half is lauded for its well-crafted screenplay and emotional resonance. Vijay's character is introduced in a suspenseful and captivating environment, developing into a compelling family and political drama. Satyadev's performance has also been praised.
However, the second half has received divided opinions. Some viewers found the post-interval pace to be slow, and scenes meant to be impactful didn't fully deliver. Despite strong performances and narrative ambition, the film's latter portion reportedly struggles with coherence, and the intended impact of heroic moments isn't always achieved.
