Chapter 11 - Engagement

Sunday Morning - 11am, Professor was still in bed, trying to get up, but a hangover of drink and no one to hang over with, made him lazily lay down there. His cell buzzed making him to somehow pick it up as he saw ‘G.K Chaudhary’ blinking

“Hello, why are you calling now?”

“Khurana Sahab”

“Cut that crap, i am just an unknown professor”

“Sir, that is for those who do not have old allies with KE. We are old allies sir, we know who the real player is and we are still partnering. And, you are soon to back Khurana Ji, I have an idea.”

“Still you did not keep a check on your son? You know very well how far a compromise I have made for respect of this family and all that I am still bearing, still your son tried his hand at that respect”

“Khurana Sahab, you can yourself come and see how I have punished him for his deed. He is underground for the whole month and any other punishment you speak of.”

“I am separating from your business if your son’s name is still part of it”

“Please Khurana Sahab. For once please forgive him. Never ever will he do any such act, my word. Also, he had no idea about you. He only knew she is related to Dev Khurana”

“You are free to do whatever with that Dev and his father, I give a damn but not with respect to this family. " He got up to go to washroom

"Now, You already broke my hangover Mr. Chaudhary. And you know very well,  I don't change my decision in such cases. If you agree with this, be ready for a pleasant surprise in about a couple months. Bye Now.”

Monday - All the while in lecture,  Mr. Professor was in discussion with his group. And along with his naughty meaningful looks to Geet. He would come near her, place his hand on her desk, obvious signals. Geet’s heartbeat always rose with his closeness. On top, thin material of his white shirt, reminding her of his strong body, fragrance of his masculinity. Did he do all this to her so she could not focus on class. And then  she remembered what inspired between them on Saturday night. Why is he so casual, does he not remember anything?

After class, the professor was on call when Geet entered. He signaled her to be seated and stay quiet as he was still on call.

It was mostly hmmm, No, not possible is all she could hear from him. 

“Ok, bye now.”

He ended his call, looked at Geet and raised his eyebrows. She came to him as he got up and he pulled her in his embrace

“Do you remember Saturday night” she asked caressing his face, ohh she simply cherished being close to him, in his strong possessive hold

“What was so good about Saturday night for me to remember? Okay, it was a great day for you, Your engagement date is fixed now. For me, I think I drank and kept hallucinating you” She looked into his eyes as his hands started playing with the zip of her dress.

She moved forward and placed a soft peck on his lips “I really was there with you and you gifted me something, I wonder if you would have gifted me that in your sense.Do you want to know what?”

“No. I am more interested in making my Monday eventful” he held her hip and pulled her up to take her lips within his as his hand grasped her bottom bulge  and pressed it, making her forget all sanity and lose herself in him.

After an hour, her dress was rolled down to her waist, his buttons open and his front were marked with her lipstick and back with her nails, they were still in deep kiss, their hands all over each other.

They then separated but he again pulled her to him “Damn, you headstrong,  will be able to keep distance.”

“Take back your condition Professor” 

“Hanging out with Geet Handa is fun, not with Dev’s fiancee” He then gave her challenging look

“Let me see if your business Deal cum engagement is more important to you or this madness of ours”

“Madness is just madness Mr.” she pinched his nose, indicating her decision once again. Got dressed up, gave him goodbye kiss on his cheeks and left.

12 days thus passed by. Geet and her professor could not keep the distance much. 

Today it was their last meeting before her engagement. Next three days Geet was blocked by her mother for her engagement shopping, ring selection etc etc. 

“So inspiration, will you still be able to do it?” he looked at her, there was still hope in his eyes for something. Geet wanted to be strong, she had to go with engagement as Dev gave her no reason to break it.

“Not now, professor. Let’s part with wonderful memories. I am going to cherish each moment spent with you, in your arms” saying so Geet left.

It was Friday evening and Maannu entered the Mansion 

“Hey Maannu” Dev stopped him. For a change he stopped to listen to Dev

“Tomorrow is my engagement with Geet Handa, I invite you to attend my engagement with Geet Handa”

He emphasized Geet's name. Maannu showed no expression

“So you know, your engagement is not important. Your engagement with Geet Handa is important.” Dev burned. Maannu had his ways to show him down, every time he felt he had an edge.

“Anyways, have guts to attend it and make sure to not get drunk” Dev taunted back

“I will definitely be there, because I know I am so important. After all this engagement you are entering into is also for me. Do you ever have any aim in life for your own self than to focus on snatching my stuff”

“Your stuff, why not, in your brain. She won’t even talk with the likes of you, wandering creature” Dev laughed. Maannu left.

It was an engagement evening and Khurana Mansion was decorated like a bride.

Geet entered - Her elegance and beauty took everyone's attention towards her. But Rano could feel her daughter was lost, not her very own confident self. She did not even check on if the correct business associates were invited or not.

“Geet, all well beta. Are you having engagement jitters”

“Mom please!! No.” 

“Then smile and shower your charm kid.” All the people, meetings and programs happened. Dev and Geet were seated next to each other. People kept on coming, congratulating them. Geet kept on giving a formal smile to everyone and to Dev as well. All while her eyes searching for the one and only one.

She only wished he does not make his appearance and make her task tough.

Geet and Dev were then made to stand on the stage. Dev was lingering as well, he was waiting for the perfect moment to place a ring on Geet’s finger. Geet was simply wishing that she somehow vanished from here. But she knew she was a strong girl and she has faced many situations and worked on practical ground. No emotion can be her decision maker. But however hard she was trying, things were not in her control.

And then he stepped down from the stairs, in his formal suit. Geet, whose eyes were all the way to the stairs, was lost in him. Why did he come? He never made presence with Khurana’s, then why today?

Dev was happy, the moment had arrived “Geet, this man stays upstairs. Had to invite him to an engagement. This is a big event for us, Media will be covering it. I wanted everyone to witness it.”

Geet turned to Dev, gave a faint smile and then her eyes went on the man, whose eyes were fixed on her.

Geet looked around and saw all the business associates, partners, Media and her parents, friends and relatives were there.

No, she can’t ruin everything due to her recent adventure with the professor. He is ,after all, a weird uncertain person. She cannot behave like him and risk everything.

Dev placed a ring on Geet’s finger. Geet’s eye immediately went on him watching the event with complete attention. She was then asked to place the Ring on Dev’s finger. With shaky hands she picked the ring, making sure to not look at him. Knowing very well his whole attention was on her act. She somehow placed the ring in Dev’s finger and closed her eyes, feeling the crack in her heart. She instantaneously turned and looked up to meet his eyes, which had no expression, same as there was no expression on his face. It scared her to hell. As if she could feel him as she was going through the same.

Congratulations!!! There were flower showering shimmer flowing in the air. Rocky came and hugged his Di, she could not feel anything. She felt the world slip beneath her feet. Her parents, Dev’s parents, siblings, friends all came to wish them. And then unexpected to her he took the stairs up the stage towards them. She wanted her heartbeat to stop at this moment.

But as Dev saw him coming up, he moved towards Geet and wrapped his hand around her waist. Geet was shocked with the sudden touch of Dev’s hand. Then she saw his eyes went on Dev’s hand on her bare waist. She immediately removed Dev’s hand from her waist.

He came to Dev  and forwarded his hand to Dev. Dev had a big smile on his face, as if he had won the battle. Geet was in no sense to analyze Dev’s immense happiness for this engagement. She was focused on the man who had come to congratulate them.

“Congratulations Dev” Dev shook hands with pride “Thanks Maannu” Dev even forgot in his happiness that Geet has seen Maannu as signing authority. But Geet herself was not in sense to analyze anything as of now

He then moved to Geet. Geet looked at him, guilt and pain, she sipped her saliva

He forwarded his hand to her “Congratulations Miss Geet” It was so formal from him, shrill ran down her whole self. He kept his hand forwarded till she brought her

“Geet, shake hands. he is congratulating you” She looked at Dev and then him “Unn haann”

She forwarded her hand. “Thanks” merely came out of her lips.

He gave her one last look. Geet could not take his gaze and turned.

He then turned and left for his floor, never looking back and then Geet’s eyes were stuck on his retreating figure.

He was gone.

Geet, a strong girl, was not able to stand. 

“I need glass of water, want to sit” Dev immediately held her shoulder 

“Geet, are you ok.” Geet simply removed his hand from her shoulder and sat down on the sofa chair. Rano gave her a glass of water.

Geet did not say anything. For the next fifteen minutes, she somehow tried to hold herself. Annie tried to befriend her, Viccky tried to be a tease Devar, but all went above Geet’s head. Her brain was fixed on the first floor. 

“Dev, can I take a walk around, feeling a bit suffocated.”

“I can understand. Come, I will take you around”

“Dev, you please take congratulations. I will take a round, please.”

Geet left and as she walked around to find her way out, she was stopped several times by people eager to congratulate her. After a long time, Geet was able to find her way to the back side of the hall. 

She looked at the stairs and as she stepped on first stair, she heard a voice from behind

“You are not supposed to go up Madam” She turned to look behind to see a man

“Mam, I am Nakul. Saheb has strictly asked me to not let anyone up”

“Please let me go upstairs, just once. I need to talk to him.”

“You can go but I will lose my job.” 

“You work for him?”

“Only him and for years and years. If you want me to lose my old job, please go.” Geet sighed and stepped down
