Chapter 1: Miss Perfect

Sanjeev and Ragini Khurana checked the arrangement of the hall. The Handa’s will soon arrive. Mohinder Handa and Ranoo Handa will soon arrive today with their super talented, professional daughter, 25years old Geet Handa.

Geet has landed India just last week from London. She has completed her Masters in Management from London School of Economics 2 years back. It was during her Masters itself that she started handling the projects for her father. So total 4 years in industry and she has already handle handful of projects and had lead them to success. Geet was perfect example of professionalism and class. At the age of 25, she was stricter than her own parents as how she has to dress up, behave and speak. Her dressing would be perfect with no sign of single mess. Shoes, hair dresses, makeup all would always match with them self and with occasion. She was complete no nonsense person.

Geet did not believe in heart, love etc. etc. Okay, not because she had any heartbreak or anything like that. She simply believed, they were all too bookish and impractical stuff and above all waste of time. She was a business woman and all her passion lied in the deals. Her deals have to be successful. Geet was also an avid reader but Romance books would never be found in her library, they were filled with Management, business, economics and some science books. Out of all one was her favorite. She had read many Management book but this book has caught not only her attention but she somehow tried to follow that book like a religion in business. This book was only found by few who would be very interested in Business Management. She had tried to find why this great book was not so publicly available in the market and figured out that it was Author’s choice. The author of that book seem really eccentric and thus has captured her attention. She had found that the Author of book only wanted this book to reach to people who were really into the subject. He somehow didn’t seem to be interested in money from this book. Geet has somehow found that the author of the book is an Indian but further than this she knew nothing. How old he was, which part of India he belonged, what was his name. Even the name was abbreviated.

Anyways, today Geet was getting ready to go to Khurana’s. After lots of discussion with her Dad, Geet has agreed for this alliance.

For Geet this was part of her business deal. Marriage was one big opportunity to make big business alliance and she cannot waste it by falling in love. She will use it to get best business deal. She would argue with some of her friends

“What is marriage – You marry – which is ritual, have sex – which is physical process and then have babies which is part of having sex. I don’t see presence of love in any of this process. You can handle these process very well without falling in love and wasting your life’s important time. I will use this opportunity of marriage for good long term deal.”

Geet was ready to leave for Khurana’s with her mother and Father. She was wearing an evening gown, classically adorned with laces, her makeup was perfect and she looked beauty without a spot of mistake. Complete perfect.

Her younger brother, 18 years old Rocky, aka Rukhwinder Handa, wanted to come along but he had exams and Geet had assigned him tons of work for revision. Marriage alliance talks were deal for her and he did not need to waste important time on that. Rocky made faces but could not utter a word to his Di. How he wished he had a playful dreamy Di. But he loved her and wished best for her. His Di was best, he knew.

On the way

“Do you think this decision is correct Dad. Khurana were leading the market 5 years back, but in recent 4 years it has gone down trend. I just hope this deal does not backfire.”

“Geet for some moment, please take it as your marriage alliance kid. Khurana’s are reputed family and name.”

“No Dad. We are just going to meet them. If I find it is not going to be a good marriage deal, you will have to back off”

“Ok Beta. But Dev have lead the market once. He is famous for his deals.”

“I know Dad. Dev was leading the business and popularity chart but 5 years back. People still know him but I think the magic was more 5 years back. But still I think he is best groom to be selected, seeing the growth he made earlier. Something must have happened in these years. I will look into it myself.”

“Beta but you know Dev’s capability, he may be able to pull anytime. His personality and attitude towards business you liked”

“Yes Dad. Though I will know him personally today for the first time.”

Handa’s reached the elegant Khurana Mansion. The huge mansion said it all and Geet’s resolve for marriage became strong. Dev definitely must be an awesome personality person to lead the big business and anyways for her more than the person, the benefiting deal was something that mattered.

The welcome was great. Dev and Geet smiled at each other. Both thinking of the business benefit that would be achieved by the alliance.

Dev’s younger brother Vikrant and youngest sister Annie was also present.

“Hi Geet, Annie. I am youngest one” Annie greeted Geet excitedly. Geet gave formal node of acknowledgement. Annie was just a year younger than Geet but her acts were more innocent.

Vikrant was more in sync with his brother and helped him in business decisions.

All elders talked to each other and also to Geet and Dev. Dev, Geet found was very careful while talking. Something different than her expectation. With what she had read and heard and the way he used to carry his business, she had guessed he must be person with great confidence and attitude. Both were lacking little, though he was trying to maintain. But she ignored.

What has she to do. She believed Khurana’s will catch up the market and this will be great merger.

“Dev, why don’t you show Geet around” Ragini wanted Geet to be more involved with Dev. They badly needed this marriage aka merger with Handa Group.

“Sure Geet Let’s come, I will show you around”

“Sure” she got up with elegance and she placed her wine glass on table with perfection. Her each act was so calculated.

She got up to go with Dev, but she would have been more impressed if Dev would have taken lead in showing her around than his Mom taking the lead.  

As they walked ahead, Geet looked up to see around the Mansion. It was so huge and elegant. There was a huge central area and wide alley and room running around in circular loop. She looked up to see the first floor. There were many different types of huge rooms in ground floor and same must be on first floor.

As she looked up “We stay on ground floor. First floor, we generally don’t go.”

“Why, it looks well maintained”

“Someone of Grand Pa’s old known stay there. He wanted to give space to that person. Grand Pa is no more and we want to keep his wish”

“Ohhh that’s too generous. I would have not done it. Such big area to someone.” She was upfront, not appreciating this level of generosity

“Give him one room, why whole floor.” Geet was curious. She did not like the idea at all. It was so foolish

“Actually he is very rude and mad like person, we avoid encounter.” Geet said nothing but could not co-relate. Why would they give whole floor to one person and to one who was not good with the family?

Geet made faces “Okay your house, you know better” But she thought, either the khurana’s were too good a people or there was something fishy. But she let it go. Her focus was good merger deal.

As they walked ahead, Geet could not miss the way the alley and rooms were connected and how elegant shapes were given.

But what she also observed and not miss, Dev trying to hold her hand and then backing off. Either he was very descent or a low confidence person, who was trying all bit to impress her. But he was Dev Khurana, why will he try to impress her. It must be his decency. Okay, she appreciated descent and well-mannered people. She and her class could not tolerate indecent and ill-mannered people who never cared of manners.

Dev got a call, he was hesitant to pick it. He smiled at Geet.

“Please take the call, I would have. I will see around” she assured him.

“Sure. Just don’t go upstairs, you don’t want drama.” “Sure.”

As Dev walked away, Geet started looking around in leisure. As she kept walking she saw stairs that went to first floor. She went near the stairs, her heart started beating fast. What was it, why is she feeling palpitation.

May be because Dev has warned her about it, she is feeling excited about it. But then, she met Dev for first time, her would-be, she never felt such rushing of blood then, why now?

Why her legs were tempting to go up. But as she was still confused she heard sound coming from up towards her “Drumm Drummm Drumm” and next a big empty whiskey bottle was laying at her feet.

“Yuckkk” she moved backward. Dev is right, the person is so indecent. Emptying whole bottle of whiskey and then making it fall down. Must be completely not in control, manner less person. She hated to encounter such person. He definitely needs to be thrown out of mansion after the marriage.
