Part 3 Saviour
The boy kept uttering some prayers standing outside the classroom. When he thought that he had muttered enough prayers to satisfy the gods he decided to enter the classroom. "May I come in ma'am?" he hesitantly and nervously asked the teacher sitting in her chair taking the attendance. The teacher lifted her face on hearing a familiar voice. "Abir" "Mister Abir Rajvansh what is the time now?" she asked in the most polite tone ever possible. Any other person would have thought that she was the nicest teacher on the earth but Abir and the other students understood the situation. Mrs Mallik was like that only. The angrier she was on the inside the more calm she appeared from the outside. Abir nervously stammered, "Eight thirty-five ma'am". In mind "Oh my god, atom bomb is about to burst. I swear Kunal, I'll not leave you today." He was very angry on his brother for putting him into the situation. It was all because of that idot of a kid. Had he not switched off the alarm clock Abir would not have been in front of this time bomb which was about to burst in a few moments. The teacher started,"At what time are you supposed to enter the class Abir?" "Eight ten ma'am" "At what time does the class begin?" "Eight twenty ma'am." "So how much late are you?" "Fifteen minutes ma'am." "May I know the reason my dear?" "Ma'amactuallymybrotherswitchedoffthealarmclock" Abir blurted out. "Oh so first you come late to the class and then make excuses to make your poor brother the villan." she shouted. "I am really sorry ma'am. She regained her composure and said,"OK, today I am leaving the matter here but it shouldn't happen next time. Remember that. Anyways you are lucky that I have'nt started teaching because I was waiting for someone. Take your seat and I want your full attention to the class." Abir was both happy and shocked. Obviously he should be. Mallik ma'am spared him just like that. He thanked his stars and sat down in his seat. Suddenly he remembered someone. "She said she was in this class." Automatically his eyes searched the whole class but she was found nowhere. He took out the card from his pocket. It read "Mishti Agarwal" "Class 8" "Section A"Suddenly realisation hit him. She was that 'someone' ma'am was talking about. He thanked her in his mind. She had unknowingly saved him from Mallik ma'am's warth. He hoped he could help her in any way to express his gratitude.
While Abir was lost in his thoughts the senior coordinator walked into the room with a girl. It was the same girl Abir collided with. All the students stood up to greet the teacher. After the greetings the coordinator began to speak,"Good morning students. Today we have a new student with us. From now on she will be a part of your class. I hope you all will become her friends and help her. Is that okay?" All the students said yes in unison. Mrs Mallik asked her to introduce herself. The girl began,"Good morning everyone. I am Mishti Agarwal. I am from Delhi Public School,Udaipur." It seemed that she managed to complete the sentence with a great difficulty. Abir looked at the photograph in the id card and then to her. Exactly the same. A round sweet baby face with doe eyes wearing spects. Her hair was tied in twin braids. Some of the hair escaped from the braids and fell on her face. Clad in the full white school uniform she looked like a timid girl thrown out of her comfort zone. As Abir was looking at her the teacher started speaking,"Oh,so you are from DPS,Udaipur. Then you must be aware of the curricullam of our school. Don't worry. DPS Rajkot is not very different from DPS,Udaipur. And for the other things your classmates will help you." "Abir" the teacher called out. "Yes ma'am" Abir replied rather surprised to be called suddenly by the teacher. "From today Mishti will sit beside you. Make her aware of the basic rules and regulations of our school and the syllabus covered till now. Help her adjust with the class." "Okay Ma'am" Abir replied.

Hi guys.Sorry for being so late.Actually I was caught up in studies and assignments. This is the fourth part. Please do read and comment.
Abir and Mishti:Two birds(Part 4)
Abir was a free bird which hated to be put in a cage.He has always dreamt about flying high and free. “Always” means since when? Well probably since he came to know the meaning of flying. A wanderer by nature who could do anything just to gaze at the birds in the sky. Well was it his fault that he took birth as a human being and not a bird. He often thought about freedom and liberty. What was the exact meaning of the word? Was it to be not bounded by chains? Was it to be not anyone’s slave? Was it to be able to say what you want without any fear? Or was it to be able to live your life the way you want? A life where no one can interfere.
Mishti was like a bird born in human captivity. She had never experienced freedom. To her life meant being bounded in a cage. More unfortunately her condition was like a bird whose owners suddenly did not want it anymore. Just like a caged bird is sold to any person interested in buying it it seemed that it was the same case with her. Rejected by her family, her own parents, labelled as a criminal’s daughter or more surprisingly a criminal herself. It’s not that she didn’t receive love. She got love from the mos tunexpected ones, the ones whom she barely knew, whom she never considered a part of her family. She even got the freedom to fly but didn’t have the courage to take a leap of faith. It was almost as if god was pitying her for her more than worst condition and so gave her a little happiness. What was her fault? Why did she have to face all this? Why was she abandoned by her own family? Why was she labelled a criminal’s daughter? Was it her fault that she was born there? Was it her fault that her father was a criminal? Was it her fault that her mother remarried and never came back for her? Was it her fault that she was a human being? What was her fault? Why did she have to bear the consequences of other’s doings? Why was life playing games with her? These are some questions nobody has answers for. Or is it that nobody wants to give any. She was labelled, talked of by everyone but nobody really had the reason.
The two personalities who may not be more different than one another. Can the free bird make the caged bird realise what freedom is? Or will the caged bird never come out of the cage of fear, of shame, of guilt. Can the free bird make the caged bird fly high or will the caged bird succumb to her fears? Can the free bird make the caged bird lead a life of joy? Or will the caged bird always be in the confinement of her sadness and sorrow.
Hope you all will like it.Please do comment.Criticisms and suggestions are more than welcome.
Wow! Asmi, hands down this was your best part among the written work you have posted! I totally loved the analogy of the free bird vs the caged bird. Kaise soch leti ho tum itna? I'm amazed by your analysis. The questions that you asked were so apt. Loved this one Asmi.
Also, I would like to add onto this- the free bird may not be as free as it thinks it is and the caged bird may not be as indebted to its owners as it thinks it is. Just like a free bird often has to fly carefully to avoid hurting themselves from human made objects, Abir too is not fully independent as he may think. He is bound by his past where his father left him. The lack of love that he feels even in the presence of his family does not make him feel free completely. On the other hand, Mishti, the caged bird, believes she is indebted to her owners and they have the right to decide everything for her. But, just like owners who don't mind their bird flying away to a shorter distance if that's what is best for the bird, Mishti's adoptive parents also want her to fly without making her feel like they are the clutches holding her back. I believe, freedom is an illusion.
